The Demolisher can be summed up in three little words: "Zone of Control."
What the Urbanmech claims to do, the Demolisher actually achieves and not just in memes.
Having a heavily armored semi-mobile brick of death is not the best way to outfit your entire battalion, but it's a fantastic pivot for one all the same.

I can definitely tell most people who talk up the Urbanmech haven't actually used it in the games, or at least, not outside of MWO.
In practice, they really, really suck. They're always one piercing hit away from losing most of their firepower if not exploding outright, and they aren't that hard to hit because they never get more than basic cover bonuses due to their bottom-tier speed bracket.
The whole "they surprise you with numbers from cover" always assumes their opponents are complete mouth-breathers who never invest into recon BA or light vehicles/vtols, or even just plain BAP in mech-only fights.

My Battletech tabletop group restricted me from ever using vehicles because I had a number of campaigns where I was rolling with an all-vehicle loadout. First it was the Savannah Master getting restricted after I deployed about 20 of them against a Steiner "scout lance" and somehow won without losing any Savannah Masters (I was expecting to lose half of them). Then it was my flock of Warrior VTOLs getting restricted after I deployed about 25 of them against a Kurita drop and winning that engagement. Then it was the Patton tank that got restricted after I sent them in a Battle of Kursk sort of engagement where I won by attrition by focusing on destroying the legs of the heavy/assault mechs they were going up against.
IIRC, the game that got me banned from ever using any vehicle-only loadout was probably the one where I had a bunch of Demolishers sitting around in ambush positions working in pairs (one with long range weapons to bait the enemy and the other with AC20s for that "SURPRISE!!!" factor). Good times.

But like the equally ambushy SRM carrier the demolisher is only scarry in said ambush situations. In the open field the mighty demolisher will find itselfe quickly being outrun and immobilized at long range, most often before it can get off a single AC20 salvo. Its also very vulnerable to infantry and battle armor due to the lack of secondaries.
As a merc commander i would not take these monsters along, to niche, to slow and to situational. If i wanted a superheavy tank i would rather take something like a behemoth whose weapons loadout allows it to deal with all kinds of threats. Though if i had to guard a base or other structures a lance of these monsters would be a welcomed sight. For the Demolisher ISM, I used the Demolisher (Reinforced) as the basis, and switched to Clantech for some things.
The Demolisher (Reinforced) ISM utilizes a Clan chassis, XL engine, and heat sinks while retaining the IS targeting and armor. In the turret it mounts 2 Clan HAG40s with 6 tons of ammo. For infantry and Battle Armor defense, besides having to rely on supporting vehicles, it mounts a Clan Micro Pulse Laser on the left and right sides, with 2 more mounted in the rear.

The MF version looks very solid so ill be giving that a try soon along with the idea of a fusion engine with plasma rifles and flamers version.

It is a Glascanon, looks not like much, but have 3 PPCs in it's turret and shoots it one after another. (in Game they also often shoots in an alpha strike... yikes! ) xD

It's crew training would be minimal, if you can fix a tractor engine or weld up thick metal you can fix it and the range is low enough that you're not exactly going to be taxing the skills of some mostly illiterate survivor of the Succession Wars that just has to point it at the big thing a couple of hundred metres away and pull the triggers. Plus if you ideally mix them in with some recon vehicles for route clearance, a couple of more medium/multipurpose tanks for problem solving, bit of fire support and a command vehicle you can have your own little rolling thunder happening for the price of a clan heavy omnimech.

Its paired well with LRM Carrier vehicles.
Outside of that its a target I blow up in any other format. Its short ranged, slow, lacks battlefield endurance(ammunition) and lightly armored for its tonnage. If I could I would replace one of those AC-20s with an LRM-20+Ammunition.
It shows why the Atlas assault battlemech is so well regarded. That has a much more balanced weapon loadout.
The future variants breath new life into the idea. Ultra Autocannon and LBX Autocannon are basic. Gauss Rifles are more interesting due to increased range and accuracy. To understand the impact t of the Demolisher Mk I, II, et all on mechwarriors everywhere, look at the other members of the original AFV pool available in OG 3025. (Real AFVs, not the Skulker or gun jeeps/trucks.) Striker, Pegasus, Hunter, Scorpion, Vedette, Galleon, and Manticore as a heavy lifter. Those first six are fine AFVs, but they're not able to stop a 'mech company. Hinder and harass, but not stop it. The Manticore has the firepower, but not the protection to be a lasting barrier, and its speed won't give it an evasion bonus either. (The OG version had heat sinks too, which was enough trouble at times to explain the massive ICE adaptation in TRO3027.)
Then the Demolisher rolls on to the board, and things suddenly change. It is a killbox designed to halt an enemy advance by getting in front of it and opening fire. Armored enough to take two PPC shots to any location and still remain functional. Armed with two (count 'em, 2) AC 20s that can blow the legs off any 'mech not a Heavy, and a few of those, too, and regardless of location, a hit forces the dreaded Stability Piloting Check. (Falling prone in LOS of a Demolisher is hard luck, and potentially fatal!) Massive enough that a Push or DFA kick isn't a guaranteed success. the Demolisher is here boys, and it's here to stay! The basic formula of two big guns works with all the upgrades in any era, but the original MK I is just as capable of leg-chopping in 3151 as in 3051 or 2951. The power plant & heat sinks was meant to showcase its power back then, but I'm sure it was also meant to retain game balance regarding the fearsome tank. Putting the ICE engine in for the TRO was a RAW-legal cheat that freed the big panzer to relentlessly stalk and kill enemy 'mechs and vehicles.
Art-wise I liked all your choices for the video. The 2.0 mini put out by Catalyst is good at showcasing the bulk and raw firepower of the tank. But I still have a fondness for the original design, with the wide body topped by the circular turret, and the four track units that made it seem more quadruped than tracked vehicle. it made for an imposing mini on the table! I expect further displays of power from the new mini.

IF i were making my own, I think i would have gone with two hag 30s. I'm a big fan of the paired weapons. It lacks the solid bunch of a gauss rifle but no tank is an island. You can back it up with with the double gauss, or the UAC-10 versions and when a mech gets too close, the AC 20s just off to the side will put it down. Ammo might be a concern buut that just means you gotta call your shots.

It really only needed 2 upgrades throughout history from the original AC20s. Twin Gauss rifles and Twin UAC20s. Aside from rearmmoring it in ferro fiberious the design team should keep this thing as cheap to produce as possible. Not to say they shouldnt offer engine upgrades to the discerning customer. Sometimes you do need to fight on a moon lacking in atmosphere, and fuel cells are absolutely terryfing to sit on when under fire.

I have fun brainstorming how to use vehicles against mechs. Call me conventional, but I see the value in conventional vehicles and infantry.

Nothing wrong with that. I hope we see some fun battles in the future with the Kickstarter models arriving this year.
