- In this video, I go for a spring photo walk through a wild garlic hot spot! While enjoying the arrival of spring growth, I try the Kase 200mm Reflex f/5.6 lens for some interesting and dreamy images. What do you think about this lens? Let me know and thanks for watching!

The mirror lens is certainly interesting, but I don’t think I care for the effect it produces. But we all have different tastes. That’s why there are so many different choices out there!! Thanks for the video!!
I agree, I think it has a very niche use case
I watched this whilst getting ready for work. Such a lovely calming video. Quietly narrated with soothing music. Thanks
Reflex lenses are so interesting. I quite enjoy the look they give, deepening on the subject matter.
Another tool in the bag. Great video, will continue watching your stuff!
I enjoyed the video as usual Courtney.
I thought the mirror lens gave some really interesting image's and with the Z7 a good extra in your camera bag.
Great image's as usual.
Look forward to the next one.
Wonderful video. Peaceful and well paced.
There is no green like the green of spring. Welcome back Courtney
Great video! I find you perspective, composition and photo titles really creative!
Thank you for taking us with you on the spring photo walk Courtney. Very nice video.
Not really a fan of the cheerios but the scenery tho, love it!
I thought the rings were too distracting. But it looked like a nice photo walk and scouting time.
I've been watching your videos for a while now and this one absolutely "wowed" me! I was blown away by the location and the opening scene of the garlic! The light was beautiful and I couldn't believe the coverage of the forest floor! It looked like snow! Your resulting images were also beautiful (as always)! Thank you for making such entertaining videos and bringing us along in your journeys!
A wonderful video, Courtney. Some beautifully calming images. Thank you!
I wasn’t expecting the rings to be that pronounced. Wow!
Kudos, to you videoing in the rain Courtney, as well as capturing the images. I've done it as well, but much prefer to not go out in the rain, so it only happens occasionally. I know in the autumn here in western Canada, when the colourful leaves fall, their colour tends to be enhanced with rain water on them, bringing out the stronger colour than when dry. Truly appreciate your video's, and after so many now, you're becoming an expert in both the video portion, the spoken portions and the editing process, so thanks for sharing with us all!
I, on the other hand, don’t mind going out in the rain, but fear I might fry my equipment. Blame it on my first digital camera, a Nikon 5700 that I _assumed_ was weather-sealed, until I found out otherwise the hard way…
Lovely spring photo walk , a little bit of nature is good for the soul, glad you found the Scottish Cows .☀
Another great video, and thank you.
Fantastic stories. Thank you
Schöne Bilder in schöner Gegend.
I enjoy your photo walks. They are relaxing and informative. I'm looking forward to the next one.
Fantastic video Courtney! what a great sea of white, so beautiful to see.
ty for all the content
Oh! Dear Courtney, I'm missing our virtual speaks,🗣
cause, I haven't heard a word, in over three weeks.🤷♂
So my Forest Princess, please avoid being shy,🙈
cause Your Kindly Poetic Friend, stopped by to say "Hi".🖖
Today is your celebration, hip, hip, hurray,🎉
where I hope, in your heart, lies a bright sunny day.🌞
Although the breeze, can get a bit wild,🌬
it appears that, for your day, its lovely and mild.🏖
Through your lens you show your love, though full of caffeine,📸☕
from black, sandblasting Iceland, to the Forest of Dean.🌋🌲
But today is your day, for us to show our appreciation,🙏
Congratulations and Thank You, for your Beautiful Inspiration.❤
Interesting lens. Some of those shots were so dreamy. So different. Thank you.
An excellent video all the white from the garlic makes it look like a winter scene 🙂
Once again Courtney- great video! My take-away favorite from today is "The Stray." As in your world, mine is similar in weather: much rain, cloudy days, with a handful of sunny. I've taken many pointers from you since I started watching you. Thanks. We'll continue watching "over your shoulder" from Olympic Nat'l Park, Port Angeles, WA., USA!!! Take care!
Love your videos, please keep up your great work.
The Daydream image was so calming and beautiful, as you chose a background of ferns and foliage which complemented the bluebells perfectly. Thanks for another thoughtful video, Courtney.
Hey Courtney, beautiful video and the sea of white garlic was really incredibly nice!
Thanks Courtney that was really interesting.👍
wow,beautiful place with stunning shots
Love your photography. The snail was cute! The Kase Reflex lens was interesting
Excellent!
Tu trabajo me encanta!!
I love that lens. Very artistic and unusual. Great vid and location.
My atmosphere, close-ups and a mirror lens with beautiful blur. I personally bought a Sigma 600 mm macro mirror lens with an M42 mount. It's soft, but it's a lot of fun. You gave me some ideas and forced me to think about and implement some of the emerging ones. This was a truly great movie with even better ideas. Warm and rainy greetings from Poland, from the city of Przemyśl Fortress.
Now you’ve inspired me to dig deep into my old camera bag where there should be a mirror lens that I purchased at least 35 years ago, I never really got on with it but I’m certainly inspired now to try it again. Your not so controlled descent of the banks were certainly better than mine as I usually end up sitting down on the part of my body where the sun doesn’t shine.
Lovely photography (as always) AND equally good videography and editing. Impressed.
Lovely content. Your story line is solid, and video production is smooth. Learned a lot. Thanks for sharing
Thanks!
Rings look awesome and different 😎
Lovely video Victoria. A Daydream is a gorgeous image😀👍🏻
Lovely close-to-ground compositions mixed in with your first impressions of a new lens. Just the thought of a mirror lens on a mirrorless body makes me chuckle 😁
I like the rain, mist, fog, and all
Bellas fotos 🎉
That brought back memories of my old Vivitar 600mm f8 catadioptric lens, which I purchased in the early 1980's and used with my Olympus OM2 35mm (I now own an OMS OM1 mark II). It was a good lens for the time: and quite lightweight.
I have got a mirror lens never thought of using it like that.
I will have it a try thanks
Beautiful location, almost looks like it’s snowing. The key to not getting rained on is go out any time there isn’t a school holiday 😂
THIS IS GOOD
really a nice setting at 3:00 of the snail and colors...
New video! Yes! Yes! Yes!
Very nice - thank you.
Love your work 😊👍
I really like the unique bokeh. Great video as usual
I loved my catadioptric mirror lens , tamron 500mm f8 in the day was great , days of film and waiting a week for your results , and yes i miss the garlics short life , i eat wads of it while im out , and sleep like a baby off it (when im tired)
I love the „curious“ snail, so cute. They seem overly abundant this year, I notice them everywhere in Austria and Germany so far also, gotta walk carefully.
This lens is really interesting. I’ll do it gives a completely different effect on the shots, the fun thing is that your style still shines through and all the images. That’s a good thing.😉✌️
Courtney - Thank you for getting me outside and into the forest. I spent this afternoon hiking with my Z8 and Nikon 105mm Macro lens. Had a great time and even found a mushroom! Shot some video and took a lot of photos. Again, thanks!
Another great video Courtney... good location with great colour...not sure I like the rings effect but I am always interested in your comments & compositions... cheers from Australia 🦘🦘😀
Great video great weather in Cincinnati 70 / 50 at night
Thank you :)
Great vid, you make me think of Mildred Hubble🤭😇
I have a Nkon Refflex 500 mm. One of my favorite lenses in my bag. No doubt.
Get one today, Courtney!!!
Finally you got a mirrorless cam Victoria! Hahaha it's an enjoyment to watch ur vids.both person and the content are gorgeous.
Ahh finally a z7 in your hands! Love it
She had a Z8 in her hands at a Nikon show, but only for 5 minutes. I have the Z8 and lenses from 14 to 840 mm, all from Nikon. I am in heaven and owe it all to Courtney, who got me started in woodlands photography!
@@dennishaldiman6087 Z8 is a dream lens, finally Nikon actually is back at being a competitor. I own a Z6ii, its meh, has its pros and major cons. Cant afford the Z8 yet, but in the future ill def upgrade.
LOL.. you got me, I got up and answered the door!
The lack of people around those trails/ forest as you were filming while taking photos made me could felt the calmness through out the video ~~~ Hope we could have this kind of places in Taiwan as a person getting embarrassed easily with 사람들의 안광🤣🤣
Thanks Courtney
Personally, I think I'd take a hard-pass on the mirror lens. JHMO.
I have to admit I'm envious of your proximity to such a spectacular shooting location. Greetings from Oklahoma.
I used a reflex lens decades ago, the doughnuts were intriguing to start with but I found that the novelty of the effect wore off quite quickly!
its kinda funny seeing this, i remember in the 80s (film cameras) the 500mm f8 was all the rage for a cheap telephoto lens, i used to photograph the oxford/cambridge boat race with it, but eventually those horrible doughnut rings got the better of us and we eventually ditched them, it adds nothing to the photo but was fun at the time and got you close to the action, look forward to the next video as always.
wow! I don't know if you noticed, like me, the real 3D effect when you stare at the small lilac flowers! . I think that lens offers much more than simple donut effects!!! 3D effect close up!! Beautiful place, excellent video❤
First time seeing a lens like that. That's a very interesting effect with the circled bokah. I like the idea of creative lenses like this, but often the use-case is so limited that it's hard to justify the cost. That said, I eventually want to get a vintage Helios 44 lens for my micro four-thirds camera. The swirly bokah is so memorizing and looks especially fun for portraits or a similar single subject.
I thought that was really interesting to see you using the Nikon Z7 like mine, I appreciate both F mount and Z mount (I also own a D850) ,They are wonderful to use in their own ways!!
Not sure I would want a reflex lens but Great photos as usual Courtney.
I enjoy your videos very much
Love the snail videos.
The locations you go to are always amazing, I'm sad thay I'm stuck in the city 🥺
❤ one reason why i love to garlic 😂
很棒的拍摄,赞
Cool cows, my Nephew here in Alberta has them on his farm, cool to watch and photography. Guess, you don't have any bears or cougars in your woods as I have in my location here. Our season of flowers has not really started here in Alberta but it's trying to rain which is good. I enjoy the rain it will bring life to the land around me but it also brings mosquitoes. I do enjoy your exploring.
If you make it to Colombia before I make it to the UK let me know, I'd love to spend the day shooting with you. I love your videos and wanted to thank you so much for taking the time to make them..the only negative comment I have about them is that there aren't enough of them!! Great job and awesome photography, I am learning so much from you. Best wishes - Karlton
Estou aprendendo muito a observar antes de fotografar assistindo os seus vídeos. Um abraço brasileiro! Thanks
4:05 I was wondering when you'd get a Z7 (not if). That camera is such a no-brainer for Nikon users at its current going rate. Get your own copy, you'll love it.
I wonder what that Kase lens would have produced had you taken a longer exposure in the case of that image of the garlic with the stream in the background? Very interesting! Thanks for sharing!
schöne eindrücke und bilder grüße aus der Rhön Bavaria
I used old vintage lenses which can produce some crazy bokeh, never considered using a mirror lens but you may just have changed my mind. Hreat video as usual that garlic looked amazing but it was a wonderful smell as well, ps you very pretty
Mirror lenses have their place although i currently don’t own one. Doughnuts! I love donuts.
Great effets
I have a Promaster 300mm f5.6, Bower 800mm f8, and a Russian 1000mm f10 catadioptic lenses. I fo get a kick out of the imagesthey can produce. However the fact is that I only really use the 300mm. The others are not as easy to use. The 300mm is sn old screw mount which I have a Canon EF converter on it , and then I mate it with a SpeedBooster. When mounted on my Canon R7 the telephoto effect is like a 330mm with the brightness of a f4.5 (DOF remains at 5.6) and I get a tiny bit of image quality improvement due to the compression of a FF image down to the aps-c size (this is like when you take a less than sharp image). interpolate it to a larger size, and then print it smaller). I am tempted by the Kase 200mm in an EF mount, but that is a pretty hefty price for a "novelty" lens that I may only pnay with a couple times a year. Still...maybe.
You are a amazing person.
the shrug after the bluebell is what i do mentally when i take an average photo 😂
I was able to get a nice Z7 with a FTZ adapter so I can use all my F-Mount lenses. Won’t be giving up my D750 or old F2 anytime soon but it is a very nice addition to my kit. And no I don’t have any Z-Mount lenses, at least yet
Очень нравится мне твой канал. Это просто находка !
Try the 50mm 1
8 prime or the Nikon macro 105 lens for bokeh, both are fantastic.
Interesting video. I have a 500mm Reflex lens, but f/8. It was difficult to focus and the out-of-focus rings really bothered me. About once a year I take it out to try again and each time my conclusion is the same: I would rather use a regular 300mm lens and crop as needed. I really cannot convince myself to like the Reflex. Still, as a creative tool, it is one more tool in the box.
The kase lens is definitely not for me lol . I do absolutely love my sigma 105 macro lens though. Thank you for another inspirational video Courtney..
I like kase Lens
I missed most of the woodland wildflowers this year, I had other responsibilities to take care of. We've had a lot of rain, perhaps I should go into the woods looking for fungi...
Thank you Courtney, very pretty images - very dreamy. BTW did you enjoy using the Z7?
❤
If I remember right (it's been 40 years since using one of these), the best scenario for mirror lens shooting is [along with background distance] is subject to background contrasts. These will tone down the busy donut mess that comes with using these lenses. Mirror lenses are an acquired taste if you know how to use them being that they are limiting in composition styles.
