    I know I have said it before but great job not being fake or forced like a large percentage of material on here. You keep it very natural and it flows and it works.

      I certainly don't mind hearing it again! Thank you so much, I really appreciate it :)

    The use of trees in the open spaces between these social development projects makes a significant difference to the well being of those living there. The flowing, non linear natural environment makes all the difference to the mind compared to the linear based design of a typical concreted cityscape.
    With Bratislava so close by it is possible from the political perspective that Vienna was potentially being used as an example city of social reform for more widespread application in the west.
    Really enjoying your soft spoken ASMR on so many highly interesting topics. Thank You.

      Thank you so much, I really appreciate your comments! And I very much agree, those organically grown city centres make all the difference.
      Yeah it's a possibility? My impression is that the housing programme in the 1920s/30s worked extremely well for the Vienna labour party, so they've more or less been running with it ever since.

    I love both ASMR and urban planning, so this is just so perfect for me. Please make more urban planning related videos.

    This was absolutely fascinating (and very relaxing) - thanks! I wish we in the UK spent half the amount of money and time on quality social housing as Vienna. There's a huge former social housing project in Sheffield where I live called Park Hill, which is the perfect example of how bad we are at this kind of thing - the architecture is incredible but the government and local council let conditions there deteriorate until almost everyone was forced to leave. Then they sold the building to private developers who have begun renovating the flats and selling them at great expense to yuppies. Urgh. I need to move to Vienna!

      Hi Ben, I'm very happy you enjoyed the video, thank you! I find it a really fascinating topic, especially in Vienna where it's been such a big part of how the city slash governing party sees itself (though that overlap between city and party obviously is its own issue at times haha).
      It's a shame to hear about what happened to that project. That must be really frustrating to witness. Thank you for mentioning it, though, I'd never heard of it and just saw there's quite a lot of coverage on it.

    Oh my goodness I love this video. The Red Vienna video is my favorite so far, and this was a perfect follow up. This topic is truly fascinating. I love
    the pictures and the history and learning about the architecture. I could watch this over and over!!

    Those complexes with the pools, gyms, medical centers, etc seem like great places to live. Wish we had stuff like that in the US

      It's surprising how forward thinking some of the early housing projects were. And the whole things comes with its own issues, obviously (there's definitely some social stigma too) but I do think that Vienna is such a livable city because housing works well. I guess it's a topic that will stay with us for a bit - let's hope it will trigger some positives changes in many cities :)

    This honestly is not a topic I would have thought was at all interesting, but you are Melange ASMR! Of course it will be interesting! I was delightfully surprised by this. Thanks for broadening my horizons!

      Haha yes, maybe a bit of an odd topic, but housing is so prominent in Vienna, it seemed like an obvious choice. Glad you liked it!

    This was great! Next time you're in London I recommend visiting the Barbican estate - a huge brutalist housing complex built in the centre after WWII with a theatre, gallery and restaurants. It was a massively ambitious project that would never get built nowadays. They do architecture tours, it's well worth a visit

    • @MelangeASMR
      @MelangeASMR  Před 2 lety +1

      Ahh I think I've seen something about that, it looks really impressive! I really need a week just do an architecture tour of London.

    Did this happen in other parts of Austria or only Vienna? Australia has very little to compare with this yet needs it now more than ever. Not brutalist style though. More attractive designs are possible.

    • @MelangeASMR
      @MelangeASMR  Před 2 lety +1

      Gemeindebauten are most prominent in Vienna by far, but social housing in one form or another exists everywhere. Housing cooperatives are also pretty common. And yeah, brutalism has mostly gone out of style haha.
