- This week, Pastor of McLean Bible Church, David Platt, gives us three critical questions for us to use to evaluate how we are following Jesus.
1. Are you going to choose comfort or are you going to choose The Cross?
2. Are you going to settle for maintenance, or are you going to sacrifice for the mission?
3. Will your life be marked by an indecisive mind or an undivided heart?
With as many as two billion people around the world having never heard the name of Jesus, Pastor David Platt asks us to think about what it is each of us is called to do to proclaim the Good News in our lives.

“If you can trust Jesus to save you for the eternity, then surely you can trust Him to lead you on this earth. And not just to lead you, but to satisfy you in every step of the way.”
John When we hear a person preach, and what that person says guides you to Jesus, then he is doing what Jesus commanded us to do. Matthew 28:19-20
And it's just what I heard in this sermon. A man who, has opened my eyes more on who Jesus is. Therefore, doing what we have been sent to do. 1 Corinthians 11:1
There are many "preachers" who claim to be disciples of Jesus but they dont prove it with their lives. Against those we should stand, but this is not the case. He is giving glory to God only!
Yes he will provide you with a satisfaction at his discretion. Not your call...maybe your call is cancer. Maybe you even have to die. It's his call...not your choice. Yes we all want to feel satisfied. A little money a little love people who care about is. However, tomorrow is not guaranteed. So if your loving your jesus share it. Bring people to God. Do his will. That's what he's asking. Do it all in his name. He know what you need..he always have. Have joy in Jesus...IN EVERYTHING! including disaster! It's his will ..not yours. God Bless you and of course wishing you all Gods blessings and the satisfaction that brings.
@John unless your called to be martyred and die. Or maybe have to give up a child for Gods will. So if you have something give it ..share it "love thy brother as thyself". However, that's not ALWAYS your call. Further, that's Gods call to put you in that position. You may be called to die of cancer and witness on your death bed to the glory of God. Money valuables may not even enter the picture as they will all be burned up anyway. You begin with a heart against God and you end only when God appts. You can follow God but all of us end in death then the judgement. Great to to share your wealth if your in position. I would caution to remember we are the rich man. And our "good works" are not righteous..."there are non righteous, no not one." In fact God calls them in the Hebrew translation our "good works" dung or oily rags. The heart is the tell tale sign. Is it obligation or is it from God. Hes the judge. We are citizens of heaven just visiting this earth. Harder for a rich man to get to heaven then a camel through eye of a needle. I'm not saying don't help a neighbor...I'm saying yes help! Do all you can to the glory of God. It is the second commandment. Remembering Job...lot's wife. Jeremiah, peter. Even Moses a murderer..David a murderer. Clearly, God cares little for "good or bad" he wants you to care and love him above all. He is a jealous God. Nothing should stand in the way good or bad.
@John oh and we as children ..yes actions speak louder then words. Love people show that love with good works thus is a testament to your faithfulness of God. Not an action of your volition...It is Gods holy spirit acting through you. We are sinners evil doers from birth only God can change a heart and bring you like a child to do actions of good. You cannot do anything. It is the will of our God through you anything happens.
@John the scribes and pharisees where terrible sinners just like you and I. Fairly easy to feel more righteous...however ,"All have sinned and fall short of the glory of god" we need to accept the death and ressurection repentance and practice. Which I was just pointing out that does not mean we are not sinners. I am only eating Gods will nay be your death i.e. Martyr. Whatever his will be done. I assume we both are christian have faith and walk with God. The scribes and pharisees did not believe him as evidenced by his death on the cross. I believe in him. Therefore, I am saved (sinner) through grace not of works last any man should boast. The pharisees had plenty of works. I'm not sure where your going with your responses?? However, I think your saying righteousness is through God and God alone I hope.
This is the kind of preaching we need a lot more of in this world!
If as Christians one needs this kind of preaching,its no wonder the church in the USA is in such a mess.

I’m convicted and humbled. God forgive me for caring more about comfort than the cross. You’ve saved me for your kingdom, not for my advancement. Use me Father I pray, send me to the places YOU need me to be. Let nothing be as precious as your will, and your Gospel.

How many other pastors do we hear give sermons bring up verses/passages like this? Praise God for David Platt and his boldness to share the truth from Jesus to a western christianity that definitely does prioritize comfort in their faith.

you're hilarious. his preaching is lame and soft. He's not even saved for one. He preaches you have to repent of your sins to be saved, which is a works based salvation. Listen to Tommy McMurtry, Steven Anderson, Roger Jimenez, Jonathan Shelley, Grayson Fritts, and other IFB preachers who know the real gospel.
Are you serious? Repenting of sims which means to turn from sin is not Biblical? I would encourage you to stop listening to preachers and open your bible sir.

Sadly, you're right. People who believe human trafficking doesn't happen in America should do a simple Google search, it's rampant and professional sport events are when large amounts of trafficking take place, Hollywood, etc. Some people need to open their eyes and change their priorities.

One of the most powerful sermons I’ve ever heard. This hits deep in the heart . Jesus is the Answer and He will give us strength. Everyone including unbelievers believe that life begins outside of your comfort zone. It’s where we show our true colors when it’s a decision to act or to sit back; whether we have true faith or enjoy thinking about the interesting concept and story of Jesus. How many times I have felt as David said when he turned and walked away from that little girl who needed food. Both physically without helping someone get food or spiritually without giving them the Bread of Life. That feeling of “I should have shared Jesus with them” just looms in your mind and eats away your soul. We have the answer in Christ but we must be confident in Him to share this truth with full strength. Without that confidence we will lose our saltiness and are of no use to God’s Kingdom. And I don’t know about you but davids plea makes me feel sick to my stomach thinking about coming to my deathbed regretting how I spent my time being comfortable and never truly living for Jesus.
Dear Lord please come into our hearts to move us to love, without allowing ourselves and others getting in the way. Allow us to receive You and the Holy Spirit with open arms and to help us understand what you did on the cross so that we are in awe of you and your love for us. Thank you God!

While I respect and applaud your efforts “where it matters”. I appreciate the time you spend doing local missions and spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I would encourage you to remember however that we are many parts of the body. A foot wouldn’t say to a hand “get to steppin”. While your role in the body is an evangelist and a street shepherd, Mr. Platt’s role is perhaps a different one.
What I’d personally love to see stop is the cutting down of Christian brothers and sisters because their role isn’t ours. With love and encouragement, build each other up. We need to stay in our lanes and stop trying to dictate the way everyone else walks out their unique calling. Ask this question, is anything he said NOT biblical?
