The very first effort I had with "All Grain" was in my mid to late 20's around 50 years ago and then it was called "Cracking the Malt" which I did with a rolling pin in a baking tray. Took me a while and I cannot remember much else except that I brewed a very acceptable Bass type beer for many years.
I particularly like your separation of the grind (maybe I should say crack). As an engineer I like data.

Hi. Thank you for a excellent review. Can you share the mill settings you aquired during your tests for the different types of grain?
    Thanks again!

Did you test a number of different Grainfather Grain Mills to see if there is variability of the settings between machines i.e. one machine might need setting 6 for a base malt whereas another might need setting 4 due to engineering differences on the production line? I guess I'm asking if we need to work out the settings for our particular machine or if we can take your research for crush size and speed of milling as definitive.

My advise is to use the settings that we suggest, I am almost certain that the what will be small differences in manufacture won't make any effect on the crush.

Hi rob. A quick question if that’s ok? I currently have one of these in my basket ready to buy. I pretty much brew your recipe kits as i know exactly what i like ( especially the bells two hearted clone premium ). If I was to purchase this recipe kit, would the different grains be separated? I know there’s no specialty malts with that one but, others i buy do. Ultimately if i buy uncrushed will the malt be packaged up in the same bag?
    Many thanks
    James

Hey James, glad you like the Bell's clone! Its a great beer!! If you order an uncrushed recipe kit it will be supplied to you in separate bags for you to crush at home 👍🏻

@@themaltmiller8438 thanks for clarifying that, much appreciated. Yeah the bells recipe is by far one of the best beers i brew.
