    Thank you for explaining the junk journal phase! I make journals on the style of Junk Journaling but I use mine as encouragement for women. You are right about Therapy is expensive. I started out years ago with cardmaking, but then I met so many women while taking my daughter to the clinics , I started making the journals to encourage the women or strengthen them . My daughter passed away on New Year's night of 2022, coming up a year. Making the journals have saved me mentally. Thank you and keep making your journals! God bless you.

    I have been paper crafting for a number of years and love it. One project after another and I am constantly looking for a purpose to do another. You have given me in-site, that I do not need a purpose, that I am the purpose. I have recently been unable to walk and I can’t get to my craft room. I am miserable, so I watch endless videos on “how to” while I recover. That is how I stumbled on your channel. Thank you for sharing and I now know why I am miserable. I now realize the purpose of my craft is ME. I have not junk journaled, but I will now for me.

    Thank you! I've always wondered what the purpose was.
    Sooo, just creating these, and enjoying doing so, is Enough. As in You are Enough... of a reason to make or create something.
    If one wants to call it a gift, it can be a gift to yourself time to create, try different ways of making parts, maybe the challenge of using what you have to create. Or, the thrill of the hunt to find something somewhere that would be perfect for a cover, page, etc. I get it now.

    Im 2 years late but just wanted to thank you for clarifying to people that may not know or newbies...it can be very frustrating and possibly off putting for others in the Junk Journalling community whom consider this craft a sanctuary or refuge (which has been the top reason I love junk journalling, in my experience). Tina, you are absolutely spot on in your video here especially the part about J.J (junk journalling) not having to have a purpose like scrapbooking or journalling etc and also that there are really no rules...there are some people out there, that are trying to bring a whole different vibe to one of the very few art/craft spaces where you can truly let your hair down and just not care. Anyway, I hope we can all hold space and continue to have fun, not care, play, celebrate "mistakes" and basically do whatever we want and not feel judged or pressured into making something for a purpose.

  • @MyArtfulCrafts
    @MyArtfulCrafts Před rokem +4

  • @andreamarshall9677
    @andreamarshall9677 Před rokem +5

    I love your explanation about creating junk journals and how it is an art form. Book making has always and continues to be an art form, and many kinds of these books are truly art forms with the “high art” purpose of being appreciated for no other purpose other than looking at it! The definition of art and craft often has the difference that high art is appreciated, whereas craft is appreciated but serves a functional purpose. As an artist and an art teacher, aesthetics has been a big part of the philosophical side of art that we take coursework in. You are spot on. Bookmaking arts can be in either category of high art or craft. Artist intent is a piece of this, too. The artist chooses his or her intent for the art they create. And there is also viewer interpretation. As viewers, people bring their own life experiences and interpretations to any given artwork. Thanks for discussing the topic!

    Great video. I’ve started making junk journals just for the fun of seeing how they turn out. I’m a prolific crafter and my usual problem is I make things and don’t sell them. I tried but selling nothing at a craft fair is a horrible downer so I don’t bother any more. Junk journals can direct all that creative energy into something I’m happy to keep. The people getting angry over the definitions make me laugh.

    • @ReHatchedDesignsTinaWilliams
      @ReHatchedDesignsTinaWilliams  Před 10 měsíci

      Yes I think they need to define it to justify making them. To me thats not the point. I

      I just got off the phone with my 90 year old dad. I bought him an entire painting set for Christmas. He calculated it’s been over 60 years since he last painted. He was worried if he would remember how or it would look good. He was a very good artist. He just never had the time to paint. I said who cares it’s not about that. It’s about enjoying what your doing that’s really all that matters. So I think if he is willing to try after 60 years at 90 we all need to let go and do the same. Life’s short do what you enjoy what’s fulfilling.

  • @adminconceptsfrancescafrat4285

    I agree with you when you say that "Junk Journals" are art. Each designer will have a vision of the finished journal they want to create. No two journals will look alike even if made from the same designer.
    There are new materials to work with and design with. One thing for certain each journal is thoughtfully made, and a lot of love goes into the making.

    Thanks for truly answering the question about the purpose of junk journaling. It has helped me understand my mix of both interest and scepticism of the art form. The fact that I am drawn to it means that it is worthwhile. It doesn't pretend to be more than it is. I still maintain that employing an eye to balance, proportion, color, etc. results in a higher quality product.
