  • Skiing Big Sky’s longest blue cruiser - “Horseshoe”, January 2022
A long, winding, smooth blue cruiser on the far North of the resort where nobody goes, this fun run seems more like it should be categorized as green. It’s only the fairly steep and narrow entrance that can be a challenge, especially in flat light, icy conditions and with sparse small rocks littering its path. With its setting at the northern most part of the resort, the steep, narrow entrance remains shaded by Lone Mountain most of the day. It appears early morning is your best bet for the best lighting. Nevertheless its a fun and satisfying cruiser and worth the 4 lifts it takes to get there from Mountain Base, the main base area of the resort. It spans a total of roughly 2000 vertical feet over approximately 2.6 miles. So far to me, it’s the mother of blue cruisers, at least at Big Sky.

Thank you Simon. I will miss Big Sky this year. Lisa and I are going to ski Lake Louise up in Canada. Believe it or not we’re going to drive there all the way from southern Texas. We’re looking forward to the adventure.

@@jusgibs Well that sounds like quite an adventure. I have not skied Lake Louise but have visited before and it is a magnificent place. We will be returning to Big Sky in February for the first time since Covid. Like you, we have a long way to go, coming from Australia.

@@bmasma01, Oh my gosh! I had no idea you’ve been coming from Australia. I thought you were local to Big Sky. That is a remarkably long journey. You must really love Big Sky to put up with that lengthy travel. Well I wish you all the best on your journey. Hopefully I’ll have some good videos to share when we return. Cheers friend!

@@jusgibs It takes a fair bit of commitment but is definitely worth it when you get there. There is just so much space and variety to keep any level of skier happy.

Thanks! I use an Insta360 ONR R camera and extend it with a selfie stick about 3 feet from a PVC frame buried in my backpack. The selfie stick attaches to a pivot (Bullet Time attachment also by Insta360) with limited rotational ease of movement using a clamp/ brake device.
