  • Is it worth your time effort and energy to go to a small local hamfest? What if that hamfest is an hour away?
    I take a look at my recent trip to the Fort Worth Cowtown Hamfest, one of the many local Texas hamfests.
    If you have been on the fence about making the trip to a local ham radio hamfest this is for you!

    Gah! I want a 220 transverter. Looks like a fun time. I might need to plan a trip to visit family down there next year for the Hamfest, LOL.

      @@digital.rancher no worries. I’ve got plenty of time until the June VHF Contest, so I’ll see what there is at Hamvention. Plus there plenty of VHF guys locally who might have some recommendations or gear to sell.

    great video style. the mircowave stuff looked interesting. I think sometimes of putting up a 1.2G antenna and then think well nobody to talk to anyway.. :(

    Great find on that Siemens radio! Pink's mother worked at the Siemens factory in Hamburg back in day.

      Very cool! The same table also had a Blaupunkt but it didnt have batteries and the owner wasnt sure if it worked. It was close to the same vintage and it was very cool as well. 73!

    Looks like it was a good one! Looked like it had some good forums to attend! I just wish the smaller hamfests would run a little longer. Some only run 4 hours in the morning on one day. A lot of the flea mkt will start packing up the "Junque" an hour before close.. If its a 3 or more hour drive to get there, a person has to get up very early to have time to check out all the "treasures" in the flea mkt, be able to make a few of the presentations.. and still have time to have an "eyeball QSO" with people you haven't seen in a while. I try to go to at least 1 large fest a year, and usually 3 or 4 small ones if I can.

      That is definitely an issue with the small ones. I have one like that but fortunately it is the closest one to me - just 10 minutes away. In my opinion, each type has their own charms and reasons to attend. Thanks for joining in!

    I gladly go to local hamfests when they aren't more than an hour or two away.

      Nice! I have a couple just outside of 2 hours. I usually get there but they are far enough that if something comes up on that day they can seem out of reach.

    I was at Cowtown, but it was only about a 25 minute drive for me. I plan on going to Irving also. Kind of wished I’d have picked up the set of Heathkits the guy by the prize booth was selling though.

      If its the guy not on the outside row, but the first inside row, it was Dennis Bozeman. He is local. I have his contact info if you wanna follow up. Thanks for watching and for chiming in! 73!

    I'd live to go to one, but I have none in my local area. I'll need to drive 3hrs to reach one.😢

    • @digital.rancher
      @digital.rancher  Před 6 měsíci

      Yeah that is tough. We have one in the area that is twice a year and it's about 2.5 hrs away. I try to get to it most of the time but it can be harder due to the time commitment. Thanks for watching and commenting! 73!
