    The brilliant and beautiful Mick Ronson. In his solo performances one can hear the influence he had on Bowie and the Ian Hunter Band.

      Mick cowrote arranged and played on all of those Bowie albums up to Young Americans and sadly was screwed on his proper share of the royalties by Bowie's management.

    It wasn't til years later that I figured out it was his guitar work on the original version of this on the Pure Prarie League album.

    That he was a trained classical violinist makes sense. Ronno makes the guitar sing as if with a bow. And the way he attacks the chord w such weight and get that gorgeous acoustic presence, it's just like hearing a legendary master strike a chord on a violin or a cello.

      i have the individual tracks to many Bowie songs and its great to listen to just Mick with his guitar, a true genius. Moonage daydream for example, im thinking of remixing it to bring some of the more hidden guitar out.

      I have uprated quite a few Ronson videos. Unfortunately a lot get removed because of "copy write" or "blocked in your region" even though older versions are on you tube. I did a preview of an uprate of Mick playing guitar on Bowies "width of a circle" and is blocked in many regions so i never finished it. I will leave the link here in the chance it might work

      Ronno’s guitar playing is unique. I swear I’ve never heard anything like that, and his voice! His singing really resembles Bowie’s in a way. I was in Hull last month and it really made me happy to see his blue plaque at the station!

      Thanks and yes Ronno was a great player and did so much more behind the scenes. I wish he had been given the chance to grow as a writer and not been dropped after 2 albums. Lets not forget Bowie had many flop albums " David Bowie" "Space oddity" "The man who sold the world" and "Hunky dory" were all commercial flops at the time and in fact were deleted from the catalogue very soon after release. Im sure if Ronson had been given another couple of albums he could have produced some great original material. I have a few more Ronno performances in the pipeline not least his "width of a circle" guitar solo, i put up a teaser but seems to be blocked in parts of the world for "copywrite" reasons..

      @@dandare6865 Wow I can't wait. I agree totally with you but he was such a humble person. Yet he wrote, arranged, produced some memorable songs. Also his legacy is assured with some of the most amazing guitar riffs that'll stand the test of time.

      Yup Ronson was more into sustaining notes rather than trying to play as many notes as possible. A true showman and superb player.

    The man had such great voice & vibrato on guitar the perfect guitarist you knew if you hired him he would do a great Job he was so focused and grounded no ego when it comes to the song never over played.

      Yes he never went crazy going up and down the frets like some "great" players.He could do more with 3 notes than many others couldn't do 50 notes. His playing was both subtle and technically outstanding.

    Ronno was limited as a front man, but was perhaps Rock's best sideman. Mick Ronson for the Rock Hall of Fame. Definitely the equal of Jeff Beck.

      Found a reference that states it's 11/4/1975. If it's the UK date format then it's 11 April 1975. If this reference is the US format then it's November 4th. 1975. I'd probably go with 11 April what with the show being UK based.

      @@andrewmurray5542 That would look about right, my dad said he bought it when released and remembers taking the bus home in the dark at 4pm with it in his hands so that points to early 1975. And the OGWT would have featured him soon after the album release, so April 1975 i would say is pretty close.

      @@dandare6865 like your dad, I remember as a teenager (I'm 53 now) buying records, and on the bus home the excitement and anticipation was palpable. To me, that was an important part of the whole experience. Don't get that now but it's different times.

    Mick could wring so many depths of feeling out of his guitar, but his vocals were as boring as piss on a plate. Best thing that ever happened to Bowie, but not a solo act.
