Anyway eventually you learn and all those buttons become things you can do and put together something like Metric - Now or Never Now!
Go on edit, record quantization, and set to whatever the loop is in. Also, having a metronome helps. To activate click the double circle (one full one hollow) on the top left corner.
You can use it with many midi compatible devices as it's essentially just a controller. You can probably link it to a synths midi interface if the synth can use controllers. The device itself doesn't actually produce any sounds, it's a way to trigger sounds/events within software or compatible hardware. Think of it this way. Imagine you had a piano but it had no keys. You instead need to buy the keys, this controller is essentially the keys.
It looks like the Launchpad mini mkIII has greatly reduced functionality when compared to the mkII. Why is that? You have removed the Mixer view (previously three screens of control) and run it into the old user modes and session view mode. It would be impossible to recreate the old Launchpad mini with this new Launchpad.

@@bubbl2631 oooh you mean the sound when you press the pad. Well it shouldn't make any sounds should it, you need to have a software synth loaded up or samples assigned to the pads in a drum rack. Just watch some beginner tutorials. This one is fine "What Is A Launchpad? How To use A Launchpad". It works the same as that mark 2 or whatever the guys using, it also work the same pretty much as the Push 2 so you can watch tutorials for that , if you don't have the buttons for it you don't have the buttons for it. Like if they tell you to push a button and the mini doesn't have it that means you don't have it. So just typing in Launchpad beginner tutorial and Push 2 beginner tutorial and stuff like that on youtube should get you going

At the low level it's a MIDI device and each button gets sent to the PC as a midi note, and the lights are controlled by sending MIDI notes from the PC to the launchpad. It's very possible to do this, but will probably require you to write the software yourself as it doesn't exist.
i don't have it yet (allthough one is winging it's way to me). i managed to get an LPD8 to work VLC media controls, and control fusion (a megadrive emulator). it's possible, but a long process. using midi2key. midi2key is free. but can be glitchy. as this works using midi, i think in theory, it should work just as well
Why do you have to touch the Lappy? at 4:36, flicks over to the track...why wouldnt you scroll to the the track and then hit drums? Also why is there no shift button to extend functions like scroll in banks of 8? Ive been using Live for 10 years and the potential of these types of controllers are great...but basic UI paradigms are missing. eg Gestures on the pads which have been on loopers for a long time. What about a pedal input for hands free (semi) live looping? Great potential that takes so many years to materialise...just my frustrated 2c worth

Imagine running sound for a game show, for example, I am hoping with this I could have buttons loaded that would play the start of show music, dings for correct answers, buzzers for incorrect answers, etc. Does this sound like a good device to make all that happen?

Hi I got my Launchpad mini MK3 about a week ago and I was in a similar position to you, I’m assuming you want to know how to make covers on the launchpad and lights that come with it. If you search up “first cover launchpad” into CZcams you should find a great video on how to make a decent cover. One thing that you’ll want to first do is put your launchpad into legacy mode before starting as this allows you to use it like a regular launchpad, you can find videos on how to do this too

you dont need to map anything. that's the point of ableton control suface devices. you connect it via usb, set it up as a control surface undeer midi options and that's it.
Hello, does anyone know how we can put a sound sample for each 'square key'?? I just got Ableton Live LITE but I cant seem to assign the buttons any sounds. Any help would be appreciated :))
The only way I could do this is to set up a custom mapping page on the Mini using the Novation Components software/website and add CC buttons to it. Upload your custom mapping to the Mini. Then in Ableton use the midi mapping funtion to link each of the CC "button" pads on the Mini to one of the arm record buttons on the Ableton tracks. Save that Ableton project as a default to use with the Mini so you don't have to remap the Mini's pads to Ableton everytime you start a new project. It's not ideal, but it does work. You can also set up a CC "button" pad on the Mini and map it to the Capture Midi button in Ableton. The larger X version of the launch pad has a dedicated button for this, but you can have similar functionality for capture midi using the Mini custom mappings.
Here's what I can't work out. I've seen requests for the launchpad to be made compatible with Android going back for over 7 years. There are loads of people that would buy one to use with an android device, but for some reason Novation just seem to refuse to do this. Why? Is it some kind of tech snobbery? I can't honestly think of a good reason not to. Especially when you consider the fact that globally Android has the biggest market share, it seems non sensical to market an affordable piece of hardware only to people that have money to waste on overpriced and overhyped trash like iPhones and iPads. I personally have no plans to use my launchpad with my phone, but only because I know for whatever reason that will never be an option. I'd love to be able to hook my launchpad up to my phone to make tracks on the go or on lunchbreaks at work. I'm a paying user of FL Studio, I also use FL Mobile, but can't use my launchpad with it because reasons. Isn't it about time Novation caught up with the rest of us? There are a hell of a lot of us out here with really powerful android devices that could easily handle the launchpad and your other midi controllers, but we are left out in the cold without that option.

Not sure what you mean by this? The launchpad is just a midi controller it doesnt have a sound engine. You connect it to Ableton live and map a drumrack or anything accordingly. look into midi mapping but I think Ableton supports the launchpad out of the box... I think the Companion software might play samples too but that should be even more straight forward than Ableton good luck man
@Pat Boran Well yes and no. I've tried numerous apps that act like MPCs and sequencers etc. But they all seem to lack in one way or another. I haven't been able to get any better than my launchpad and PC combo. So many options with those too.

I wasn’t suggest you should buy an iPad or phone instead, only that an iPad or phone, presuming you already have either or both, performs just as well.

Forgive my noobishness, but somethings in Ableton Live 11 simply make no sense. When i started it up the first time with Launchpad Mini Mk3, it worked instantly. I have made zero I/O or midi changes. Now today I plug it in and the launchpad lights up, but it wont play a single sound. I've watched 3 starter tutorials, and each of them assumes it works right away or tells me what audio/midi settings to have in Preferences. I have done this over and over again, re-booted my Albeton Live each time, but still nothing. This video also assumes it works right as I plug it in. Can someone steer me to a more initial setup explanation? None of the intro tutorials are working. Thanks.
Launch pad is wack unless you have unlimited GB to download all the extra stuff that you need to make a dope beat. Fruity and cakewalk is the way. U can still download any and all packs and use them without having to try and keep it on beat
So what you're saying is, it isn't wack, your ISP's crappy data caps are wack. Not to mention, if you're smart enough, you can make your own packs for free. Learn to sample.
It DOES NOT WORK on Ableton Live 9!!! I just got this and for reasons I can't currently use Ableton live 10. (My Push 2 is just not finding live 10) so I have to use Live 9 right now. But the MK3 does not currently support or work on Ableton Live 9 !!!! They don't even mention this in the packaging or even this video! Pretty shitty.
@@nacs It doesn't. I talked to support about it, and they said it's for Ableton 10, and that's likely not going to change. All good though. I've upgraded to Ableton 10. So no googling required.

This thing is mainly made for Ableton control. Just select the midi controller in Ableton and it’ll be pre mapped

I don't think this is really much use in Reason. Reason is a modular synthesis emulator. Quite a different beast to DAWs like ableton or FL Studio.

Make sure in the midi settings, all three settings are enabled. Remote, Sync and I can't remember the third. For both input and output
Try dragging in a new midi patch sound like a synth and using red button to right to arm channel. If no joy could be a cable prob.

The idea of playing a VST piano on something like this is just patently absurd for any serious musician, sorry.
Any serious musician would instantly be able to see the best use case for the hardware in question instead of expecting it to be something it's not.
