So the full description of the film is based on a true story about real race car driver Jann Mardenborough who went from one of the pro players in Gran Turismo to an actual race car driver for the 24 hours of the Le Mans and the Super GT Japan. So excited for this movie since it’s directed by Neil Blomkamp since he didn’t have a hit since District 9 and Elysium, so I’m hoping this is a return to form for him.
He's also actually into video games, there's so many video games movies people have wanted Neill to make (like Halo) and I fully trust him with shit like that. I want him to do more!
Yup, and it def isnt interesting enough for a movie lol. This flick is gauranteed to lose 10s of millions.
@@TheNichq Good for u
@@TheNichqwell, the budget was 60 mil and it’s made 102 mil worldwide, so. technically wrong
Jann Mardenborough was a gamer who became a racer thanks to Gran Turismo. He wasn’t the first. (I sat next to him at the Silverstone circuit when he was early in his real world racing career.)
No you didn't.
@@IknockedDEJIOut he was, I was sitting next to him.
@@420b00tyWizard you are right, i sat next to you
@@NicWirI agree I was sitting on your lap while you were looking at him.
@@IknockedDEJIOutyeah, how dare he, obviously Jann’s never been to a racing circuit before. Why would you ever see him there?
Polyphony digital (the studio who makes the Gran turismo games) and Nissan partnered in 2008 to make the GT academy. A in game contest which sent the best drivers to a training camp where the best behind a real wheel were signed as official Nissan race drivers
Jann Mardenborough (whom the story inspired the movie) was one of them (graduated in the 2011 GT academy) and he still races in various championships
As a hardcore sim racer who races on iRacing everyday and has a $2000 racing rig in my room I think this movie looks absolutely awesome!
As a guy who loves racing and Blind Wave this is an insane crossover for me 🤣
I’ve played racing games since I was a kid, and a few years ago I went out to my local race track for a track day. I had zero real experience, but my instructor was blown away with how little he had to help me.
Simulation racing games do actually translate over to the real thing. You don’t have some of the experiences from playing a game. You don’t have all the smells and sounds. You don’t have the heat baking you in the car. But it does help predict what is going to happen on-track, with debris, other racers, oils and whatnot.
If anyone was thinking about going to a track day with their car, do it. It’ll be the best experience of your life
I know stock car racing is different, but Dale Earnhardt Jr. has said he's been using simulators since he had dial-up internet. Sims can be a good testing ground.
Rallye champion Sebastien Loeb attended the 24h of Le Mans without having actually driven on the track before the qualifying sessions. All he has done before was hundreds of laps in Gran Turismo 4 on Le Mans track with the car he was about to drive (Pescarolo LMP1 prototype)
On the qualifying session, he made almost the times than his team mates
They didn't finish this year but finished 2nd in 2006
Dale Earnhartd was a very competent driver. While he raced in Nascar, he understood racing and all its aspects.
My friend Matt Simmons won the GT Academy in 2015 & competed in the Blancpain GT3 Endurance 2016-2019. He is featured in GT7 as an AI driver & track advice giver.
The first Gran Turismo game is the reason I bought my first Playstation back in '97.
Gran Turismo 2 was my first game ever. I remember playing the test track for GT Academy back in the early 2010s and the actual show that they had for the competition. I'm looking forward to this. One thing that was weird was them using the modern Nissan logo when this was stuff that happened 10 years ago
gt7 also didnt exist 10 years ago so this is clearly a modern retelling of the story
@@reignrl "Modern". Now I'm imagining a literal fetus calling a 10 year old "old man".
this movie will flop lol
The dude playing what seems to be the protagonist also plays Kofun in See which I didn't expect, I'd actually kill to see a reaction of that show because its a pretty underrated
I agree, AppleTV+ has some sci-fi gems, and SEE was the OG
Also Calvin is very wrong. Gran turismo isn't a real life racing series that was made into a game... Grand touring or GT cars are a real type of car that have a series about them.
However, gran turismo is a game based upon multiple different car series. From little fwd cars to hypercar/prototype cars. The GT academy is real however, and the idea of drivers who do well in sims getting a seat in a real life car is true. One of the most popular and recent examples is Jarno Opmeer
Calvin and Saying wrong things with the most absolute confidence, name a more iconic duo
@@Psykotik_ Eric and loud noises?
Ok good, came down here to make sure this was said. Lol why does he always have to present everything as a confirmed fact
It's nice to see Mariano Gonzalez in a big movie. Loved his performance in O11CE series, I hope he'll get more roles in the future
Lmao probably gonna be his last. Movie looks terrible!
As an avid nascar fan. William Byron was discovered by Dale Earnhardt Jr on Iracing and is now a multi time race winner in nascar.
The flip you see in the trailer when they're talking about how you could die.... that looks to be based on a real incident at Le Mans where Ant Davidson flipped his Toyota LMP1 car after contact with a Ferrari GT car. both drivers walked away, but it was later discovered that Ant fractured at least one vertebra in the incident
Since the movie is based on Jann Mardenborough's life it could also be based on his flip and crash on the Nürbrugring during a VLN endurance competition in 2015.
@@michs342 is that the one where someone died?
@@SDLRob Yeah a spectator died as his car flipped and flew into the crowds. Several other spectators were injured as well. Similar to the Mercedes at the 1999 Le Mans the car basically just took to the air coming over a hump and Jann's Nissan unfortunately went through fencing around the track.
@@michs342 i knew the incident sadly, but didn't remember the date. would be surprised if they even hinted at the incident in the movie though
@SDLRob I definitely think they are going to change it for the movie. I think the clip with the burning car in the gravel is supposed to be the same incident. Instead of the car flipping and going into the crowd it will catch fire in the gravel trap instead.
Loving the whole discussion about this movie that you guys are having, with a more informed view and bringing some interest in the theme of the movie
It's The Last Starfighter with cars.
Gt academy was project that they found 16 drivers and Jann has been one of the most successful. You can look it up. They had a TV show about it.
I hope Kazunori Yamauchi make some appearance in this movie.
4:34 "Sooo, Gran Turismo is a video game, right?" The less Erick thing Erick have ever said.
I kinda felt like it’s one of those trailers where they pretty much just show the whole movie
I don't think so. It looks like him trying to win the contest would only take up about a quarter (or maybe a third) of the movie, while the real story is about his journey into racing at the 24h of Le Mans.
Yeah having seen the movie it’s basically just the first act
Just got outta the cinema🙏
They actually didnt 😮
Wrong
Jimmy Broadbent actually brough a Nissan car from the person this film is based on
Yea, at first i thought they actually meant Jimmer for the "Real-life Gamer" whoms story is great as well, little did i know it is Jann Mardenborough Story which i didn't know of as of today, but it fits perfectly.
OMG a jimmy fan on blind wave iam mindblown
im positive they said they said they were going to use 100% real cars and not cg, which im sure sure is true partly. But anyone who tries telling me there's no CG after seeing that trailer is a damn liar.
I presume they mean when racing... Like they did with the need for speed movie.
There has to be some level of CG used to enhance it, but it looks like most of it is actually filmed with race cars on a track. It kinda reminds of Ford v Ferrari.
this trailer just makes me think of Jimmy Broadbent
As a auto racing fan it looks interesting cause the plot from going from playing the game to the real thing cause of Iracing some people who raced the sim for long time get noticed and are in nascar ,Indy car F1 etc and seen some in nascar be successful
I played so much GT4 back in the day
My mind is blown that Eric didn't know GT. I felt like that was the definitive series on the PS1 and regarded as of the best games of all time.
One of the best sim drivers out there right now is also the 2 time world champion f1 driver Max Verstappen. He even has a sim in his trailer and has won sim racing tournaments before winning a real race the same day!
Honestly makes me want them to watch Drive to Survive now lol.
GT ACADEMY !
It started in in gran turismo 5 prologue and ended in gran turismo 6
The scene where that Lamborghini forces the Nissan in the wall and the driver says "it's part of racing", it's not. Racing is not a contact sport and that would be a penalty all day for the Lamborghini
there’s always gonna be bad apples that dont abide by the rules in any sports
@pstuddy sure, but that doesn't mean they'll be free of consequences. That would be a guaranteed penalty, costing his team points and money, literally nothing good comes from a move like that
@@TriplePProductionz i’m not saying that it doesnt come with consequences cuz it does. i’m just saying that there are bad athletes in every sport it’s just portraying the bad side of sportsmanship which DOES happen in real life so it’s still accurate. so what the fudge you talkin bout willis??
Could have just been a trailer editing thing to build suspense for the viewer, we don't necessarily know if those two scenes are related to eachother
I’m already sold 💯
Fun fact: CZcamsr Emelia Hartford is in this movie
Loved the trailer. I've only played Gran Turismo 5, but I loved it. Hopefully the movie captures that feeling of what it's like to play this game.
The movie isn't about the game..its about the real life story of a guy who won the chance to partake in the gt academy and then got a real life racing seat in a real life racing team of the back of it.
@@insertgenericusernamehere2402 I know, but they feature the game a lot, so I expect references to the games and some scenes with similar visuals
@@davidflores0227 wouldn't surprise me if they use the starting sound.
Do a review for this when it comes out
I love to see the movie reaction.
I don't know y no one react to this yet.
This movie really Fking amazing,
I love see u guy's reaction.❤️🔥✌️
Others have noted that this is basically the same premise as “The Last Starfighter”
I'm a woman..never been
interested in car racing.......
video nascar games..but, wow
what a GOOD FILM 8/10😊😊
who are the geniuses that
created SIM CAR!?
it's mind-blowing..
I glanced at the title and thought it was going to be a movie about Gran Torino from my hero academia
Thanks for educating the guys on old school video game techniques Rick! Now tell them how dithering was used on the Genesis 😂
this movie gonna be dope af
Yes
You guys need to watch "Grand Prix" - the 1966 movie.
Expensive advert for GT
Sim racing gives more people the chance, not only the kids of rich people who have the money to start racing IRL.
One thing that bugged me is the scene of the flip, it happened in real life, but it happened in a Nissan GTR, not a LMP2, im sure nissan was begind the change because they didn't want one of their cars to be shown killing someone in a movie, for those curious search Jan Marednborough Crash
I think there will be a lot of details changed from real life. They would need legal permission from all those involved, not just Mardenborough and Polyphony.
I think this movie will end at Le Mans 2013. The crash looks like it's Anthony Davidson's crash at Le Mans 2012 (they might use it as a reminder that motorsport is dangerous). Jann Mardenborough had his Nissan GTR crash in 2015, which means it would likely not be shown in the movie.
Greetings Starfighter,
You have been recruited by the Star League.....
U guys should react to hells paradise
The only racing game I loved
Are you guys going to react to RWBY volume 9 at all?
i hope they do, since My Hero has finished im hoping they fit RWBY in on mondays to replace it
Gotta admit I'm fully ignorant to pretty much everything in this trailer but I was scrolling twitter and was like "was that Orlando Bloom?" so I watched it and it does look pretty cool! Gotta say though kinda felt like there wasn't a lot of movie left to show me once the trailer was done 😂😂
Don't worry about it. I've heard a little about Jann Mardenborough's story (the guy who the movie is based on), and from a few interviews I've seen, it looks like they only showed the basic parts which everyone knows. Him winning the contest looks like it's the beginning, but the real story is about his actual racing career.
It's like saying the trailers and description for "King Richard" spoils the fact that Serena and Venus Williams become famous tennis players. That's the part which everyone knows about, but the real story is something else.
@@yannickvaz694 that's fair! I suppose being ignorant of the real people and things I was like "well what's the story about i know he gets it now" 😂😂😂 but that makes sense if it's more well known
@@JeM130177 No issues. He's not as well known as Serena Williams, but many people who followed Gran Turismo in the 2010s at least heard about this guy winning a GT contest and actually becoming a professional racer for Nissan (I heard about it, but I didn't even know his name until this trailer).
I cant believe they greenlight this concept lol. Basically this could just be a race car movie, but they just titling it Grand Turismo.
What's funny is now the opposite is happening where the real drivers have to compete online with the pro gamers.
thing is race sims never NEVVER will prepare any1 to drive irl but surely they will help in learning a track. i mean racers really play games for that reason same as pilots but maybe pilots its not same for them but still knowledge of track is there
I mean the entire point of the GT Academy this film is based on is that you can take a race sim gamer and turn him into a professional racer.

Never in a million years would two British speaking to eachother would one call the other dude I'm British and I know
It would be like two Americans speaking and one calls the other one mate
That doesn't happen
i've never heard anyone say dude outside of a tv show, its either mate, pal or c**t
orlando showing his age, lol
no doubt the only CGI used in this movie will just be the game running in Real Engine 5
Me dijo
Que estoy muy loco pero le gusta
Que ningún vato como yo actúa
When RWBY?
Yeah but the best part of gt the game was you race different cars like the viper or a 69 corvette stingray. Besides when has anything with GT in the title worked out 😂.
So I don’t know anything about this story or game but that trailer showed too much. I saw Ford vs. Ferrari because of Bale on the big screen and loved it while not knowing much about that premise either. This movie looks fun but I’ll wait until it streams. I’m sure there will be a big audience for it.
Screw Gran Turismo. I want my Pole Position movie.
Wow that was so -awesome- -exciting- Boring yep that’s the word I can’t wait to avoid this
Eh
I'm more excited for twisted metal.
Brothers when we will get demon slayer season 3 reaction 🥹
:)
Cool trailer, don't have to see the movie anymore.
Sadly this Trailer is just the entire movie cut up. Like, it spoiled basically everything.
That’s why I like it when the react to something they have little to no idea or no prior knowledge of it.
I mean anyone who knows of Jann will already have the whole movie spoiled. His story has been out there for years now, and anyone who is a little bit curious could easily look up basically the whole story even if the trailer didn’t show it.
Nah, it looks like him winning the contest would only be the beginning of the story. The real story will be about him making it to Le Mans. David Harbour did an interview (I think it was with IGN) where he talked about working with GT3 and LMP2 cars. That clearly shows that they'll be focusing more on the actual races he had, and the contest will merely be used to set the story up.
Oh no it spoiled that it's the same as every sports movie ever 😅
Gonna be very similar to the need for speed movie.... Absolutely dogsh*t
Not the similar at all outside of them both being attached to a racing game…. pretty dogshit comment
Talk with Shane
Why? What happened?
its such a loose connection to the game, guess they just had to slap the name of a mid tier racing game on in the hopes to get more people to see it, it would be like putting call of duty on a generic war movie
Your comment makes zero sense… it’s literally a true story about a Gran Turismo competition they had.
It's literaly based on a real life Sony & Nissan program that turned Gran Turismo players into professional racers with Nissan.
