    I feel like I misspoke somewhat when I described the winter as a time when the trees would be “easy to spot.” As you develop the skill of recognizing trees by their growth habit and bark, you can absolutely find them more easily in winter (both are described in my Winter Fruit Tree Profiles), but what I really meant to say was that it’s an ideal time for scouting relative to foraging as a whole. This was discussed more at the beginning of the video, where I emphasized that winter is such a good time because you are able to scout without time being taken away from any other major season. Hope that makes sense!
    Don't forget to check out the description to get your winter profiles for the wild fruit trees. I put a lot of work into these and I'm really happy with how they turned out!

    One of the best places to look for serviceberries is burn areas! I also find a ton of other good food plants in areas burned just long enough for smaller trees to mature but not long enough for a canopy to develop. It also is great if you want to forage in an area that feels more wild than a suburban park.

      Totally agree! Burn areas are awesome. That's where one of my favorite wild blueberry spots is.

      @@FeralForaging I also find a lot of blueberries on cliff faces, so I bring string to pull the basket up once I'm at the top. Having two hands makes it much easier to reach good patches!

    Look out!! I got snake bite picking mulberries! It was no fun. I got antivenin, and was still very sick for several days.

      That's less of a mulberry tree thing, and more of a execute caution when picking up anything in bushy areas that wild animals can hang out in thing.

    Would be cool if you could talk on what to forage during winter time, for example if you're doing wilderness survival in winter time, how would you sustain yourself without relying on hunting game?

    • @daBlyyzee
      @daBlyyzee Před 4 měsíci +3

      Food storage
      You need a lot of fat and protein to live. Vegetarian would be so hard I don’t think anyone with a choice would’ve actually done it.

      A pure green diet or do you mean no big games?
      If you mean big games, you can do traps, but if you mean no meat then that is not a viable way to survive

      @@lilyfhonazhel2675 Yeah figured, but some greens should be up for foraging during winter
