Saw probably over 50 videos about this exact top and drawer from ikea and im telling you, your video is the most helpful one this is exactly what i wanted to see! Thank you a lot mate much appreciated! 👍🏼
Really pleased it has been of help to you and many thanks for the comment.
Thanks so much for this! I was only thinking about height as far as fitting my chair underneath. I didn't even consider extra storage. I am definitely doing this now!
You're welcome and glad it helped.
Well done!
Thanks.
Subscribed!! Awesome desk. I have the same one even the risers. Just have the white Alex drawers.
Thank you

Lovely
Thanks
Could you but the risers on the bottoms if using this for a makeup desk?
Thanks for showing, I will install these risers tomorrow. Also got alex drawers but with a custom cut wood piece tor the desk.
Do you think you can install a monitor arm like this or is it not secure enough?
How did you get it to be that big cause the only choices on ikea are 74x1 and 98x1 and 74x42x1
Video now up (see playlists) on the cable management of the completed desk.
Do you think the middle of the desk could support a lot of weight such as a triple monitor stand without having to add a leg in the center?
Would definitely add the leg as extra support,go for one of the more stylish chrome legs.
Great video! Been searching for one that actually showed and measure how to put the risers on the drawers so thank you for that. I wanted to ask - does the walnut kitchen top just sit on the risers? Apologize if I sound ignorant, but my first thought would be that the top would slide off them risers or is there something that binds the riser to the kitchen top? Thank you again!
The worktop has a bit of weight about it and never moved on my use, however I decided for security to fix a small L shaped bracket underneath (so unseen) in the centre securing the work top to the wall as a precaution.
@@micksmaintenanceanddiy Very cool. Thanks!
Hi man, awesome video! I want to build a 156in table (2 countertop put together) with 2 alex drawers on 2 sides. Do you have any recommendation on how I should do it with the most cleanest look (without legs). Thank you
Many thanks and apologies for the late reply, as will definitely need support so maybe contacting a steel company regarding your specifications and design to manufacture specific brackets/supports to safely meet your needs.
Great video! Mind if I ask if you have found a way to prevent the tabletop from moving? Thanks in advance
Thanks and yes it never really moved but as an extra security measure i fitted a small l shaped bracket in the centre against the wall which you can see in my cable management video.
😲👍
Hi! I love your custom desk. Can you send the amazon link for the risers please? I'm trying to look for something like that. Thanks!
Thanks for the compliment.
Unfortunately I purchased these through eBay and they worked out perfectly.
I am sure you should be able to source something suitable just consider the height of the desk required and load / weight capacity.
Hope this helps.
Table top is probably wobble as it is not fixed but just sitting on top of the height extender. Let us know your experience.
Not at all as each riser is adjustable independently for level and no wobble at all if done properly !
I don't really like the metal bar thing but that's just me. Will the drawers and the countertop without it?
Of course.
how do you like the depth? i feel like its too shallow maybe since i plan on using a bigger monitor. do you think itll be too close?
Desk space works ok for me however perhaps consider wall mounting your monitor to free up some space.
What size screws did you end up getting to go through the drawers and riser holes
Simply just shorter than the depth of material to make sure THEY DON'T protrude into the drawer area and to suit the diameter of the hole width of the specific risers you are using.
Awesome video! what is the total height from floor to top of desk?
83 centimetres.
Do you drill thru the particle board into the drawers?
Thats what I did using a small starter drill to prevent splitting, just make sure the screws you use are of a suitable size as not to protrude past and into the drawer space as this would risk a danger of catching your hands.
this karbly looks pretty small? what are the exact measurements
186 cm X 63.5 cm
Might be a silly question but why not place the risers on the bottom of the Alex drawers?
Stability, aesthetics, storage area access and generally not done amongst most pc work station desk builds.
What did you do to fasten the Karlby to does silver legs?? Just the weight?
Yes as it never really moved due to the weight but as a security /safety measure I fitted an L shaped bracket to the wall (centre of worktop) which you can see in my cable management video.
nice video! can i spray paint them white?? and is it fine to screw them in ur table top or is that less sturdy?
Thanks. You could fix them to the worktop just make sure you fix a security bracket ie worktop to the wall as I did shown on my other video on cable management to prevent any accidental knocks.
I wouldn't recommend painting a chrome finish however I am sure you should be able to source suitable furniture risers in a white finish just check on height requirements and weight capacity for the worktop.
What's holding the countertop to the risers?
The worktop has a bit of weight about it and never moved on my use, however I decided for security to fix a small L shaped bracket underneath (so unseen) in the centre securing the work top to the wall as a precaution you can see this in my cable management video.
Are those the turquoise -grey alex drawers?
Yes.
Hello, are these the exact measurements for the desk?
Length: 74 "
Depth: 25 5/8 "
Thickness: 1 1/2 "
Worktop dimensions are
Length 186cm
Depth 63.5cm
Thickness 3.8cm
How did you attach the tabletop to the legs?
The worktop has a bit of weight about it and never moved on my use, however I decided for security to fix a small L shaped bracket underneath (so unseen) in the centre securing the worktop to the wall as a precaution.
Where did you get the risers?
Purchased these via eBay.
So you can kick down the table, because its not fixed right?
Security L bracket underneath fixed to wall.
what's the name of the furniture risers?
@@daddysyoutube2734 all good got my desk now
Hey is the countertop the 74X1 1/2?
Yes that's the size.
@@micksmaintenanceanddiy also question I plan to add a support leg somewhere under the desk is that a good choice?
@@kamenriderjam7309 Always a good idea especially if you're adding accessories and extra weight to your desk at a later date.
Awesome video! I was hoping to try something like this. My only concern was when you put the counter top on the risers does it screw in or just stay their (I dont want to move around) and do you even need the risers?
No risers are not always necessary all dependent on what's a comfortable working height for you personally as explained in the video. There are other ways of fitting the Alex drawers like direct screwing to the work top for a secure fitting, where as in my case I fitted an L-shaped bracket in the centre fixed directly to the wall (you can see this on my PC cable management guide video) to give me that extra security just in case and has been fine.
Also how tall are your furniture risers?
APPX 100 mm without adjustment.
I’m sorry I don’t understand um how tall are yours in
Inches
Four inches.
@@micksmaintenanceanddiy ahahahaha americans.. i'm sorry for you mate
How is the table top attached to the risers doesn't it move or something
The worktop has a bit of weight about it and never moved on my use, however I decided for security to fix a small L shaped bracket underneath (so unseen) in the centre securing the work top to the wall as a precaution.
what screws
Simply just make sure they don't protrude into the underside/inside of the Alex drawers so slightly less than the thickness and to suit the hole dimensions of the risers you are using.
Ergonomic
It's nice but this desk alone must cost 500 bucks expensive for an ikea desk
What mm is the drill holes?
I used a 1mm pilot hole starter drill bit to guard against splitting
The drawer top.
Nice but the those colours don’t match
