Robu has a condition in his knee or ankle that prohibits his left(?) knee from tracking forward to much which is why he has this unusual bottom position and squats a shorter ROM.

I think that no one will trump a cleaning lady in my gym, who once tried to clean the floor under my feet with her wet mop as I was jumping under the bar in the snatch.

I actually remember Omar Isuf telling a story when he was deadlifting his PR and someone in the gym bumped his bar. That was it for his back. I hope I remember the details right. Judokas and judo fans in shambles when CGI aired after the Olympics and people complaining about penalties, referees and not being able to touch the legs. For the next cycle judo needs a rule that forces people to do ground work and take a couple of lessons from bjj players. And get rid of some silly rules and also allow some leg touching. That Pixley's choke was very cool, like a variation of hadaka jime and kataha jime (the strangles you do just with hands, one of them also locking the arm), but also in a position of kata gatame (shoulder hold pin). I watched it so many times trying to see how he exactly had his arms to engage the strangle, because it looked like he never really had a cinching around the neck with both arms, it was just surprising to watch. It's always interesting to see how bjj players have adapted techniques to no-gi where you don't have really convenient strong jackets with thick lapels that can be used to both grip and use in strangles. And he got it so smoothly from that no-gi variation of harai goshi. Well played. I just today saw a comment arguing that because someone trains an olympic athlete, it means they are right about everything they say regarding training.
I think Mitch Hooper would have won SMOE without issue regardless, but it was unfortunate that his squats were waaay higher than everyone else's. Haven't rewatched it but it looked like Hafthor pretty much had to bury his and Mitch certainly did not.
That event was so hyped but turned into a bit of a disaster. The athletes probably should have been given more time to figure the machine out, and whatever way the officials set Hooper's height needs to be looked at... It's possible Hooper went really low with bar placement during the test and then went much higher in the event, but whatever it was the officials should never have let those reps count
Also, if the squat had gone differently and Hafthor was also given that final dumbbell then the final score might have been different, but I haven't gone back to calculate that...
@@aarononon Maybe they went for distance moved (relative to height?) instead of joint angles? Mitch has ridiculously long legs, so the same distance moved means less of a change in angle. Pretty much the only thing I could imagine that'd make sense (although that's not how we generally measure squats).
@@aarononon Actually went ahead and looked at the scores again. If Mitch had only got 1 rep on the squat (which would be a 9 rep penalty for the ROM, which I find unrealistic), that would only have made a 4 point difference. So the DB would have had to account for 5 points on its own to let Thor win on countback or via last event tie breaker (not sure how they do it at SMOE), so he would have had to get 3 DBs faster than Tom as well, which I don't think he would have but I would have to dig for a while to find the full DB video to see the time. Anyways, I think Mitch still had it, even in a more favourable setup for Thor on the squat and with him waiting longer on the DB but it could have been closer, definitely.
@@MellonVegan I just meant if the squat event was standard squats, and Thor was going after Mitch, then it's very possible Thor could have overtaken him (I do think Hooper is a slightly better squatter, but the athlete order plays a big role). And regarding the dumbbells, Thor's third rep wasn't given due to very strict refereeing, so if it had been given, in addition to a change in squat scores, that nine point gap at the end could have been a lot different.
Can anyone explain what exactly happened to Li Dayin? I was aware that he was underperforming for some time, but his performance in Thailand shocked me. Was it injuries? Or something else?
