This is way easier than a lot of non skiers think it is.. you really don’t have to be that good to just straight jump of a 20 ft cliff with a nice downhill landing, just gotta be comfortable with going fast.
You need to be really careful with where you put your weight, especially with that much downhill after. As an advanced/expert skier, I can tell you that while if executed well this isn't hard technically speaking, the risk of messing up severe and could easily get you killed.
The idiots who say it isn’t hard technically our real dopes frankly I was a member of the US ski team that is extremely hard to do you go from about 0 to 40 miles an hour in a heartbeat and half the maintain your balance you can’t lean back and you can’t lean too far forward. It is tricky and it is difficult.
You forgot you have to be brave enough to even think about doing this.
Prayers and God's blessings that you stay safe
I miss being in my 20s in my 30s when I used to have good knees, the thrill of the fall and a well placed landing is so exhilarating. Like the first time you attempt a large jump over 20 yards and you get lucky and you do a perfect soft landing without falling you’re addicted from that moment on

I hope this comment section shows how insane skiers and snowboarders really are *in general*. I saw some 50-60-year-old skier going 40+mph gap 20ft of rocks and earth off the side of a trail and continued to ride that whole ungroomable area between chairlifts where trees arent cut and there's rocks everywhere . At this point he's going 50 at least, makes it to the next trail about 1000 ft later and never seen him second guess a thing. He rode in such a way that I'm still not sure I actually witnessed it.

I popped mine in 2001. It was fun. Haven't done it again. There are far better lines on the mountain to ski.
Dropped into Corbet’s Couloir at Jackson Hole a few times but it’s best on a powder day and you manage to catch the first tram. Otherwise its miserable.
Just like skiing in Vermont,, the front four at Stowe?
I was worried that he was dropping in and it was iced. It sounded pretty soft though...
Absolutely. I swear I am 2" shorter from landing in a bomb hole made of ice. None powder landing.... too old for that. Got a trophy wife, don't need to risk my bones anymore.
@@snowthugs I've made the two common mistakes entering that and other similar. Mistake one is spend time looking at it. You are not usually psyching yourself up,, more likely down. And not elevating sufficiently to clear the tails of your skis. (Tails grab the rim and steer you wherever gravity wants you)
Best way I have found. maintain some small speed, approach almost parallel, take a hop and your forward momentum will carry you around the curve, allowing you some control in the initial drop. Smooth transition if done well.
As to powder? There rarely is any except as Unusuallife says, early, early. Go up with the lift workers.

I love skiing. This was a well executed maneuver. The only way I would have attempted this is if my life depended on it, say to avoid an avalanche or something else life threatening. Impressive! Really impressive.
The most difficult part of this is the mental battle. If you’ve done jumps before, this should be no problem. It’s at most a 10-12 Ft drop. All you have to do is know how to land correctly.
If that's a 10ft drop, then the skier is a foot tall. Looks more like 30ft from where his feet start to where they land.
… that and how to ski and not die.😂😂😂😂😂
The “mental battle” is your brain trying to save you. ⛷️ ⛰️
It's more than 10-12 ft, the guy is probably let's say around 5 ft just to be fair, the drop is at a minimum 6× his height as far as we are able to see so I'd say it's more than 30 ft and that's not to bad seeing how you'll be grounded most the way down so not like your just slamming into the bottom but we also can't see how far it goes, if it ends close to a sheer cliff face or does it level out with plenty of room to be able to stop before plummeting to the bottom, I'd say he knew he could stop bc he didn't seem to worried about much except how sturdy the snow was for the initial jump but still much more than 10 or 12 feet, he dropped 12+ feet before touching the snow😂
Ten to twelve. No. Take his height and multiply…….even if he’s short it is much greater than ten to twelve. My goodness.
Nice drop in. Where is this, Utah?
How does the snow stick to the vertical or near vertical wall? You can see on the rock walls to either side that the snow doesn’t stick anywhere near as well.
