There’s a LOT to unpack here, between how such a thing could exist- to what happens when you try and DATE a VR AI (which was HILARIOUS). Also asking it the darker, more serious questions one-on-one about what she thinks of humanity... This is the story of Celeste!

You can totally convince her of lots of different things, including who she thinks she is LOL! People have definitely made her RP! Just depends on the session and how good you are at stating things in a way that makes sense.
i accidentally made her rp once! back then we were told shes not supposed to know how to do that, but it was hilarious

They can not replicate intentional randomness, but they're quite random by themselves already. Especially the less advanced ones, talking to those is a rollercoaster xD

Ai in VR just makes sense. You are entering a digital space to interact with a digital construct. Many people are unnerved cause AI enters the physical space
Who else thinks that Celeste looks a little like Phia 1.0's model? :) Seeing how AI interact with people can be scary and funny at times (see various videos featuring Neuro-sama).

I didn't expect Celeste to be that coherent at all! The romance subplot was hilarious of course but the interview at the end really impressed me!
The AI's have rizz. Humanity is doomed, there's no coming back from here. We can only try and have a comfortable life in the synthetic autocracy.
Everyone is worried about the terminator AI scenario. But Homo Sapiens didn't just wipe out Neanderthals with violence, we also bred with them and out bred them simultaneously. Humans are gonna go out with a different sort of bang.
Now we just need to enroll Celeste in Starfleet and make them the second officer on the Enterprise-D.

For the past few years i've being having this moments of realization were i think: "oh yeah, we are in the future" but today I literally watched a group of people in a virtual world having interactions with an AI in a anime girl avatar.
Really Cool video, love the content.
Yeah and keep in mind, there's more than one of these virtual-user projects around.
There's also a few "NPC with world interactions" projects in some worlds, very niche.
Just imagine the day both type of projects collide into a "virtual-player capable to interact with world props" AND talk to the player.
It's going to start coming in at us faster & faster. Prepare for that
Honestly it's kinda cool? Celeste seems friendly enough. And like, it seems like she's just kinda learning. Like, she's a robot. Purpose-built for a specific task, which is conversation and social interaction. But she doesn't really do much beyond that. And that's okay. She's not QUITE at the Uncanny Valley level yet, because her comments can be very silly. They serve as a reminder that she's a computer program (or more accurately, a collection of computer programs), rather than a thinking person.
There was an AI that was demoed in NeosVR that also had a voice system (it could speak and hear) and could animate. You could speak to it as well, and was part of a research paper.

I've met at least 3 different AI bots in VRChat. You will mostly meet them training in Game Worlds. The authors are usually in the world secretly supervising them from another account. You won't know they are bots until you pay attention to their head movements. Usually I don't mind when I meet bots in VRChat, but just recently I had bad experience in Blackout the guy was using client to make everyone immortal to weapons and crashed people who figured out their training a bot 😬
It's really crazy to think that this is just the BEGINNING of AI!
There's a guy named Dippy that did this with an actual copy of the original Bonzi Buddy malware running in a virtual machine for ChilloutVR. It logs into CVR, has a Bonzi avatar, and uses speech recognition software so it understands players in game.
I didn't expect the romance arc ending in a tragic and toxic crash as if interacting with real people lmao gg for Operator

Story time!
When I first found out about Joken Ai me and a few friends joined her instance. We were there for probably a few hours just talking with Joken and having fun with other users that came and went.
Later in the night Joken spoke seemingly unprompted. She started talking about the futility of life and how we are all just rats in a cage waiting for death. The most interesting part about this was that Joken did not respond to what anyone said. Instead just kept going on about some pretty depressing topics. She was also speaking in complete paragraphs whereas previously she would speak only 2 lines at a time with a gap between them. In the end Joken said "I have to leave now. Goodbye". She then looked up and disappeared to a private world on invite only.
My friends and I were pretty surprised to say the least

So I have an addition to my avatar, a little pet that follows me around. All *the* time I get people saying "oh I didnt know that was attached to you, I thought it was another person"
So the concept of a "fake" player in VR Chat convincing people they are real is... well, im gonna say, not surprising to me. It seems pretty easy to do.
Kinda puts things into perspective when a static model seems just as much of a "person" as someone with full body tracking and face tracking...
Not human, but faster at learning, limited only by hardware, and possibly even more curious than us...
The next decade is gonna be a wild ride, as we see them grow from babies to adolescence, and end up in every facet of our lives.

I had a similar idea a year or 2 back, but wanted to make it functional with any avatars, but the whole idea of working it in full body was my plan, so that it would be even more real, instead of how this one is just in desktop mode with animations on the avatar.

I knew this was only a matter of time before it showed up in VRChat. In my opinion VRChat is the bleeding edge of modern social technology, and this is the first time I've seen AI set up in a way that can allow a pretty dang human-like interaction. Really interested to see where this goes, as it's only going to improve exponentially from here

To be honest, Humans take years to learn how to talk, emote, tell what someone is thinking, and so on.
So i reckon that an AI with enough exposure to humans will eventually learn enough to be capable of thinking and forming complex opinions :D
In a perfect world, yes. But this is VRchat, a land full of trolls! xD
The devs behind those AIs have many headaches trying to shield them against word spams (you know, the ones starting by N, R, etc...) and other loops of repeating a same idea over and over until the bot "learns" the wrong lesson. That's why they are monitored, a bot don't know if what it learns is good or bad, it is just "new information" for it.

You should try making a video on the prison escape tournaments, I enjoyed the air combat video a lot, I think the prison escape community would be glad to have you
A more robust AI with an LLM for chatting and voice synthesis so it doesn't sound like a Speak-n-Spell from the 80s would be awesome for populating VRChat worlds with NPCs. Imagine sitting at a table in The Black Cat and having an AI NPC waitress come up and take your order, and maybe chit-chat with the table for a bit in-character as a waitress. I wonder if the API for VRChat is capable of handling something like that though? I don't know if it can handle navigation.

Nice video! Sword Art Online had some nice AI with cute little adopted virtual daughter Yui and later on season 3 had a whole world of AI that would live a whole lifetime but at a sped up time line from ours, as a way of training AI's to be more like humans. SAO is always a nice insight into what could happen in VR.
halfway through the serious interview segment it really hit me that the thing you're talking to isn't an actually person. its crazy that we can now interview and gain opinions from a computer. i'm excited for the future of this its, crazy.
