  • Is the ~$130 Makers Cabinet Iris better than the sub $20 versions?
Well yes. Now watch me mess with these 2 drawing tools for 15 min.

The cheap one could be improved with some thin anti-slip pads under it.

Really, very exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.

Thanks for making this comparison. I needed to see them in action. I might go with the $20 version until it craps out and then go with the iris depending on how much I use it.

So, have you tried the cheap version? It only lasted five minutes for me, the blades immediately jammed and when you unscrew it, you know why it's so cheap.

@@Andrea-77777yeah, the cheap version lasted a few uses but then completely locked up. I have fixed several times but it’s always finicky. Definitely can’t open and close it at any angle other than flat on a surface. Even then, it’s a little rough.

i think the tip of the center finder should be seethru, maybe even have a tiny plastic magnifier like those linex triangular protractors. but then again, if you really need an accurate center and an accurate diameter, northing beats the good ol' drawing compass

Thats a good point, that would be nice.

I have the cheap one and i went through 2(bought one, exchanged it for a new one) and the blades keep misaligning.

The silver parts in he center that enable the size of the circle to change are called ‘vanes’, ‘leaves’, or ‘blades’ … probably other names as well.

  • @roundtabletalkswithkristen6045

I made the mistake of purchasing the Temu version. Cheap and blades did not stay in their spots. They credited, as it was a manufacturer defect.

Thank you for the testing!!🙂 I think the differences are TO small for that huge difference in the price!

I had bought the cheap one, the blades had jammed immediately, so I unscrewed the part to fix it. When you unscrew it, you know why it's so cheap. I disposed of it.
