    Acetone and plastic aren't best friends. Watch out when using it. It can melt some parts...

      @RebelWorkshop  Před 3 lety +2

      Yeah that you have to be careful with indeed. In this case, graphite carbon traces and the pcb don't seem to mind but anything else made of plastic (especially nowadays with cheap manufacturing on some devices or obsolete parts)/ still gotta be careful indeed.

      Do yourself a favor a just use isopropyl alcohol to clean parts like this .. even a little drop of acetone on anything plastic and it will melt!

    Very informative. Thank you for pointing out that the DJ is responsible for maintaining his gear. I have worked as a club DJ for 30 years and made it a point to completely clean everything every 6 months. Nicotine can really mess up your equipment if you don't clean it. Also covering everything when not in use helps. Again Thank you for this video

    Thanks, I have a Vextax VCM 600 with the same issues and replacement faders are like Unobtanium and priced accordingly ($70 USD delivered for just one fader). Hoping this will bring the unit back from the dead.

      Nomads Tech Journal no good I’m afraid. There were 3 damaged faders and at least one that was glitchy. I ended up finding another VCM600 brand new in the box for $100 so wasn’t worth the time and $ to repair the first.

    I've got gost movements in all 4 the volume faders and also the X fader . Only got to clean them but no lubrification, now the Xfader works properly, the rest fo the Volume faders only one is Alive but not working properly . Any suggestion ? Thanks

    • @RebelWorkshop
      @RebelWorkshop  Před 5 lety

      I found that not lubricating makes the faders carbon traces to wear down quicker and dirt accumulate faster. Lubrication on faders is needed for the same reason you need oil in your car engine. Your car can run without it but for how many blocks? Lubricant is there to smooth the mechanical wear.

    awesome video...I also had no idea about Fader Lube...one question though: would there be a way of applying this Fader Lube without opening the mixer?
    I opened my 12 channel Soundcraft audio mixer and it was a nightmarish web of cables and circuitry , I immediatly closed it back up in fear i might damage something. So im hesitant to open it again, hence my question.

    • @RebelWorkshop
      @RebelWorkshop  Před 4 lety +3

      If youre thinking of spraying fader lube through the cracks of the front panel then keep in mind - that stuff is conductive. If you short two things that have no business being shorted then a mess of wires will be the last thing you'll have to worry about. Take your phone and (photo and video) document the process of you taking it apart so that you can put it back together. Other than that, welcome to the world of repair, don't get intimidated by a few wires.

    can I just spray some in from the top instead of taking the slide off?

    • @RebelWorkshop
      @RebelWorkshop  Před 2 lety

      You're spraying conductive lubricant into your mixer, who knows where that lubricant will flow to and what two contacts it will bridge. You can risk it but if you damage your equipment, it all on you because you were too lazy or unwilling to open the unit up.

    hi
    I have Ge 7 Eq made 1983 and making crackling sound when I move the slides up or down they become less crackleing when I move them many times but will get back to crackling once I move them again!
    can I use that spray to spray from outside the unit? I have somebody told me that could be a bad resistors and if I spray anything will collect more dust!!
    thank you

    • @RebelWorkshop
      @RebelWorkshop  Před 5 lety

      The spray is a conductive liquid. You spray it in the wrong place, connecting traces that should not be connecting and you can say bye bye to the whole device. There are no shortcuts to this repair unfortunately.

  • @djdeethekingoffire4408

    can the sx2 cross fader works in the sx3..?

    • @RebelWorkshop
      @RebelWorkshop  Před 5 lety

      If the pin-out is the same, I don't see why not. Some tests would need to be done with a multi-meter. There's a lot of places where parts were made to be cross compatible. Unfortunately you'll have to rely on some investigative testing.

      And what about a controller who's faders are mounted onto a one main board unlike one in this video? Like a Numark mixtrack pro that one picked up from a pawn shop for $60. If you've got the money, you can absolutely always buy a new fader. This video's for those who must make due with what they've got.

      There are many devices out there without any existing support. For my mixer i can get just a fraction of parts.
