Not sure if anyone else noticed but the black jacket NPH wears has fake shirt cuffs sewn into it. Watched the opening countless times and it just stood out to me.
NPH is a treasure. If he can’t host each year, maybe a good cameo to get him going.

His short sleeve shirt turns into a long sleeve one. The cuffs are sewn into the jacket arms.

When I heard they scrapped this opening for the 2011 Tonys I was so bummed but it made more sense for them to do it the next year after they had already won. Plus “It’s Not Just For Gays Anymore” had A+ lyrics.

It is serious stuff, but the history behind the Book of Mormon and the rituals in the temple are a little...odd.
Theres genuinely interesting history surrounding Mormonism. How Utah formed and the society thats basically sprung up in the middle of nowhere is genuinely interesting, fascinating stuff. But i don't find the religion its all based on to be convincing.

Fun fact: the host doesn't determine everything about the opening. There are a lot of writers involved too.
For example, Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote one of NPH's other awards show songs, and no doubt he had a hand in writing some of this one too - if not all of it.
