    I love your teaching style. Step by step and easy to follow. You should do a follow up video showing slightly (and I mean SLIGHTLY) more complicated roofs. Maybe where two gable roofs intersect, or a gable roof in one area and a shed roof in another. Keep this up! You're a wonderful teacher!

  • @MaverickQbiak
    @MaverickQbiak Před 7 lety

    Great! Thank you so much. Quick question, is there a way, for my context buildings, to shape the roof in a conceptual mass family? I extruded all the surrounding buildings and now I'd like to give them a roof shape (so split in the middle and extend it up kinda...). Adding edge tool doesn't work on top surfaces and the only way I found until now is to create two masses next to each other, make the adjacent edges higher and then joining the masses. But it's a lot of work. How would you approach the context roofs? Cheers

    • @SmarterArchitect
      @SmarterArchitect  Před 8 lety +2

      +Kellie C No problem. Sounds like your project template did not include 2 levels to start. So first open any Elevation view and click the Architectural tab and on the Datum panel on the far right of the screen....click Level and and add a new level to the project. Make sure you set the elevation to be higher than Level 1. All other steps will be the same for you. Thanks for watching Kellie.

    • @CarpenCario
      @CarpenCario Před 8 lety

      +SmarterArchitect thank you
      is there a way to get the project template to include 2 levels to start?

    • @SmarterArchitect
      @SmarterArchitect  Před 8 lety

      +Kellie C Sure! Open up the project template file wherever it is currently pathed on your C: drive and add an additional level, save and close it. Then every new project started with that template file moving forward will have 2 levels. Pretty easy, right? Hope this helps

    When I select Roof by Footprint, it doesn't ask me to move to a different level. So I manually chance my Base Level in Properties to Level 2. The issue I am experiencing is that using a Basic Generic 300mm Roof, I am unable to access the Slope in Properties and change it to a 8:12 Ratio. Any solution to this?

    Thanks for all. Now I know how to make generic roof, but after making generic roof on framed walls, I can't seem to putt up the ungabled ends of the wall to the roof. OTOH if I was to wait to use the framing add on after making the roof I get an error. got any suggestions. Revit city doesn't seem to be a help.

    • @SmarterArchitect
      @SmarterArchitect  Před 7 lety

      Remember to use the attach walls to roof command which will show up once you select the walls in the conceptual ribbon. Do you see it? If you are doing it properly, it will take seconds.

    • @joeshmoe5935
      @joeshmoe5935 Před 7 lety

      problem is that I had converted my walls to a framing after making generic walls with framing extension. The way that the building I am trying to model is made . It isn't how revit wants to frame it. My building has walls that are framed all straight with 2 sills going along the top and on the gable ends it has these rafters with cripple studs on top of those sills.

      That is not what I am trying to accomplish. I am trying to add a shed roof to a building that is in the shape of a semi circle. So far I am able to add one curve, but revit doesn't like it when I add a second curve. Can I still use the roof command or should I just go into the massing tool?
