Climax was a horrifying, traumatizing experience. I don't remember experiencing this much anxiety while watching a movie. 10/10 would recommend.

The more I think about it, the more I really appreciate it as a film.

If you're interested by Noé's filmography you should absolutely watch Enter The Void. It's one of his best in my opinion. It's based off the Book Of The Dead witch describes death as you're still dying and reincarnation. So you basicaly follow on first perspective a guy addicted to psychedelics in japan, who ends up dying and you follow his one last trip as he goes back and forth between his past, the present (and the consequences of his death) and the future, all based off buddhism. It's a very heavy movie, almost 3 hours of a very sad life getting lost in the limbos of consciousness. It's very unsettling and it gives you almost no rest (just like climax but less anxiety inducing i would say)
Anyway verye good analysis i feel like you captured Noé's work very well. He worls so well with disturbing subjects

    Summarised perfectly!
Pretty much a 10/10 movie for me. Soundtrack, pallet, camera work, casting, storyline all just 👌🏽👌🏽
Can’t wait to hear your takes on the rest of his stuff

Climax is in my opinion the worst of all his films (as well as his medium-length Lux Aeterna). I found the subject insipid, Noé often plunges us into deep subjects with a trashy side that bothers us and it's often well brought and well filmed. But with Climax, I had the impression of seeing a day at high school tinged with LSD, but still well filmed. I strongly recommend watching Stand Alone which is his first feature film, classified in the "new french extremist". Disturbing by its words, the story and its filmic proposal. Enter the void and Irreversible are by far my favorites, followed closely by Love. I haven't seen Vortex yet though (it's coming soon!). Great video essay by the way!

Irréversible is probably his most intense film but in my opinion its probably his most beautiful and effective in its commentary on consent and vigilanteism.
One of those movies that i think can make someone have a realization of how horrible SA is/can be.
Also the movie that gained him his fame, Monica Bellucci and Vincent Cassel delivered the most soul crushing, vulnerable, and raw performances ever.
Cinematography that you both cant look away from but wanna turn off, and a score that bursts your eardrums.
Truly a one of kind film and as a woman and survivor its the only SA related film that i think genuinly understands the depths and real world destruction that it does.

Your essay is well done. I urge you to watch Irreversible. Strong stuff.

The essay could benefit from widening your vocabulary to talk about the movie. Yes, it's horrifying/violent/scary, but you repeat those words a lot rather than reaching a refreshing conclusion. Good voiceover, tho

Just saw Climax tonight. Deeply disturbing material, but brilliantly shot and edited. Do you think his balletic camera is reminiscent of Scorsese. Perhaps Scorsese on speed or , maybe Acid?!

I love climax but it’s far and away from being his most disturbing, I think I have too much fun with the first half tbh. Irreversible and Vortex are physically impossible to have fun during
