Dave takes a look at Yamaha's middle weight cruiser, the Yamaha V Star 950. For everything motorcycles, visit our web site at www.motorcycleexperience.ca
I just got my motorcycle license and I'm 58 years old. Bought a used 2012 950 tourer and I love it. Did a lot of research on bikes before I bought it. Great bike. Way to go Yamaha!
It's crazy how cheap those things are. The value you get for Japanese cruisers in general is amazing. I bought a 2007 Suzuki Boulevard s50 a couple years ago for $3000 and its awesome.
Had mine for over a year. Loved it but was always looking for a 6th gear. Traded it in on a Vulcan Voyager, with yeah, you guessed it, a 6th gear and never looked back.
I test drove a 2010 V Star 950 with 13000 mils. and with exception of the foot controls, I really liked it. I would rather just have regular foot pegs instead of those floorboards or whatever they're called. I'd also get rid of the heel shifter; I have one on the Royal Enfield Meteor. (I wish the Meteor came with real forward controls instead of the Wanna-Be's) Thanks for sharing the video.
i have the same exact bikeand everything he said is spot on..very comfy to ride light nimble powers there when yu want it..flashy but not over board..front break is a lil on the weak side but the rear totally makes up for it..easy for no hands riding..good shocks all around a nice mid weight cruiser..mine is the same color and everything with 5300 miles...luv it
I have one. It's the best ever! Mines black but wished it was maroon Man! Japan made, rock solid and go with mustang seat and Cobra slip on! You got yourself a reliable and fantastic bike!! Hit the road and enjoy!!
Were the hinges on the saddlebags made of durable metal on that model...or were they made of plastic that has a tendency to shatter if someone opens up a car door into it in a parking lot? The bill for mine is $770 because the hinges are only sold as part of t entire saddlebag assembly on the 1300 Tourer.
Had a 2012 for 8 years. Always pressing the gear shift for that non-existent 6th gear. Traded it in on a 2014 Road King. The stock seat was painful. Yamaha dumped the VStar line.
Fantastic at 2 up after I adjusted the rear shock fully. Count on upgrading the seats on this bike if you intend longer riding. Nothing wrong with a Mustang.
I know I'm a bit late to the party,... but, hopefully, someone else, who recently stumbled across this video, will find my reply to your query helpful. ... "Height", in itself, doesn't really mean a whole lot when it comes to finding a bike that's comfortable for you. ... It's all in your inseam, your wingspan, and your flexibility!... I'm 5'11", and this bike absolutely KILLS my Bee-Hind!... Right around the tailbone!... 😭 I went on a hour long ride, and my ass was sore for days!.. 😢 Not the bottom portion, where I sit, but, rather, the upper part of my butt!... The part that's in contact with the "mini" backrest of the seat. Right around the tailbone, but not necessarily the tailbone itself. But, rather, my upper butt cheeks. Aside from that, the reach to the handlebars, for me, was VERY comfortable!... Albeit, after finagling the handlebars' "setting", so as to adjust it to my liking!.. 😌 As a final note,... I'm NOT proportioned like your "typical" 5'11" person!... I'm proportioned more like a... model (hint hint). ... I have a 34" inseam, which would be more akin to what a "typical" 6'1"/6'2" person would have. Hope this helps!.. 😋
Also, what is the turning like on this bike? I have yet to take mine out since I just completed my safety course. Basically, I don't want to scrape the foot pegs... any advice here?
If you're talking about scraping the passenger foot pegs on this bike,... if you're leaned over far enough to accomplish this feat,... you'd better start kissing your Bee-Hind goodbye!...😘 Hence,... if you're leaned over far enough to cause your passenger foot pegs to scrape,... your FLOORBOARDS will most definitely ALSO be feeling the pavement!.. 😋 But, YES/absolutely, your floorboards WILL scrape... if you lean it far enough, on "everyday" turns!... It's definitely NOT a sport bike. .. 😌 Bu'ut,... fortunately, this bike comes equipped with REPLACEABLE scrape plates. ... A'and,... they're made of some type of "non-sparking" metal!... I don't know how many times I've scraped those things going around a turn (I come from a sport-bike rider background, BTW. .. 😌), and not ONCE have I seen them kick up some sparks!.. 😉

How tall are you? Do you think someone 6'2 will be comfortable? I'm going to check one out this Friday
I got a blue 2012 V star 950cc a week ago and I love it =)

I got the same bike OG! I’m just not as old
I just got my motorcycle license and I'm 58 years old. Honestly and I'm looking at this exact bike coincidence I think not.
Been a sport rider most of my life, really enjoy my 2010 V-star 950, would take it anywhere.
I got a 2013 950 V Star. Love the bike. I'm 6 '2" and 240 lbs .
Taken it on many day rides doing 200 -400 miles in a day .
Nice review and some good shots of bike and rider. Many thanks, chaps. Ride safe.

I have a 2012 with a sidecar on it. Those wider handle bars help with turning which is much more physically than turning a bike without a sidecar.

I have one and I love it so much just good to go
I own one. By far the best
where is a Yamaha 2500?
We need this one

V twin brakes are meant to be used 50-50 as opposed to sporty bikes which are like 90-10
Got me a 2012 vstar 950 tourer raven edition
This the same engine as in the bolt id guess .
why does no one ever bring up 2 up seating

Nice video, but it seems there are always sport bike guys doing reviews on cruisers.
it's sounds like an ad from the 90s o.0
I got a Vstar 950 2010. Anyone know where I can get a bullet fairing for it?
oops, sorry - tsukayu.com
Nice review but, the rider looks like he's about 5' 2", what about for a taller rider in the 6' range?
+Bry B I am 5'11" and 215 lbs. My 950 tourer fits me absolutely amazingly!
Cool, thanks Anthony. I ended up going with the 2014 Stryker
Bry B Nice! Any Yamaha cruiser 950 and up it's gonna be a good bike!

No need for two disk rotors up front in my opinion. Plenty of stopping power with one.
ONE guys opion
