    Hey hey!! Reo here from Michigan. I was eating breakfast and having my coffee watching this video this morning with my family and next thing you know I make my famous cameo when I chatted with Joe and Dan. Hahaha. One of my kids was like hey Dad there you are! Side note I wasn't the hunter who cut them off in the woods. lol!!
    Good luck this season friends!! We will keep watching and continue to learn and grow!!

    I've been watching THP since the inception and in my opinion this is the best video to date. Talking about your strategies leading up to harvesting a nice buck is the most valuable info. The visuals are also a HUGE help. If you created a video series where you show topos and break down the scouting process leading up to killing a mature buck, I would happily pay for the video series. I think others would as well.

I hunt both public and private, and since following you guys I have applied your tactics and seen a significant increase in my success with nice deer. Thanks for making videos the average guy can relate to and learn from.

    Nothing beats staying mobile. Majority of our success comes from other hunters coming in on us and making us decide to move in deeper. I got my first mature buck that way and I got my uncle his biggest buck to date last year by staying mobile I moved him 4 times in the first day and a half and it paid off huge! Great tips from some great guys!

    That second tip on map scouting and being able to identify diversity is extremely valuable for me. I've got some spots I know there are deer at, and are very similar to what you were looking at that I have had trouble seeing deer at. This helps me look at those spots differently.

    You guys are great! The entire THP Team! I’ve been out scouting for a few weeks now in my home state of Texas.. Temperatures have been in the mid to high 90’s with a few 100+ days mixed in for weeks now. I can’t walk more than a few hundred yards without a soaked t-shirt from sweating. You guys make it look like a walk in the park! I never see you drenched in sweat after a scouting mission. I’d love to see an episode with you guys scouting and hunting Texas Corps of Engineers land around Whitney and Aquilla lakes!! Let’s see an early season hunt with 85+ degree temps in October!

    Love watching u guys give really helpful tips on how to get on these big bucks that are really hard to even find or locate here in my home town of Elizabethton TN especially on the public properties.great work guys.keep it up.Yall should try come hunt some the mtns.around here like Holston,Dennis Cove,and much more public land that hold big bucks just alot of hunting pressure and hard to get in on em.but Ive taken a few nice bucksand it was due to hard work and over looked areas just like y'all talked about in this area.ive found that hunting closer to where the ppl park the deer feel safer and that's how I've gotten a lot of my deer here cus they knw the hunters go deep into the woods while there watching them get out of there trucks and walk right by them.they r very smart animals.

    Being from Michigan that week you were here I was actually watching the weather for you and thought you guys were in for some crappy hunting just cause in one weeks time all of the bedding areas I hunt were literally under a foot of water and I was thinking about Dan's strategies about if you can hear the beavers tail slapping the water your in the bucks bedroom and hell the beavers that week even moved to higher ground, laughing ..... Being a first year user of on x iv been watching videos on how to read all of these different lines, layers etc. and it's all making some sense now so hopefully this year pays off on the best locations to hunt. As always be safe and stay healthy my friend.

    Guys, I’ve been having a mental back and fourth for the past few years and I was hoping to hear your thoughts. In NY, it’s no secret that the quality of deer for many different reasons isint top notch when compared to other states. I hunt as often as I possibly can. I have a lot of different properties I can hunt and on those properties, there are spots that will guarantee that I have action. I almost always see deer and often could could kill one if I wanted too. But they’re normally smaller bucks and does. Also, on those spots, there are places I rarely touch because I’ve either never been there or I’m just not sure on the specifics like where I’d set up, how I’d hunt it, access, etc..when you have limited time to hunt it’s hard to “waste” an afternoon and go sit in a spot you’ve never been before that’s unproven when you have spots that produce. I know these properties hold good bucks. I’ve seen them on camera year after year and see them in person time to time In one way or another. Is there a way you guys combat those thoughts of playing it safe? Sorry this comment is so long.

    • @TheHuntingPublic
      @TheHuntingPublic  Před 4 lety

      All depends on what your goals are. If it’s to kill a big buck then we’d try hunting other locations on the property. Unless your killing them in your existing spots in which case don’t change a thing.

    Aaron, how would you hunt big mountains in West Virginia? I'm from an archery only county in WV. The mountains in McDowell Co are tough, they are no joke.

    • @TheHuntingPublic
      @TheHuntingPublic  Před 4 lety +2

      I’d look at the foothills first where the mountains drop off in some sort of valley or creek bottom. There will be more habitat diversity there either due to ag fields planed in the river bottoms or just the natural change in vegetation as the elevation gets lower. That’s where I’d start. If that’s not available and only dealing with big woods with no openings of any kind, I’d look for saddles in the ridges funneling deer movement and bowls where multiple ridges dump down into one spot. Even in big woods, there are subtle changes in habitat diversity. Might be as small as a change in tree species as you go down a hill.

    I love these guys and I'm absolutely addicted to their videos, but in fact there's only so much I can take away because I hunt the SE US where the ratio of public to private land is much, much lower than in states like Iowa and other places in the Midwest. The vast majority of lands in MS, for example, are relatively small, privately owned tracts where "deer clubs" reign supreme - HIGHLY managed properties designed to pull deer from surrounding areas with the use of large, manicured food plots and strategically placed feeders. Money is no object. The other private land is usually held by large Delta farmers who even manage their farms for QDMA-style deer hunting. CRP and acres upon acres of standing crops create perfect habitat for deer. Again, money is no object. Public land hunters in MS often are left fighting over the scraps. It can be done, but it's NOTHING like what I see on THP.

    • @TheHuntingPublic
      @TheHuntingPublic  Před 4 lety

      Thanks Jake! Iowa actually has one of the lowest ratios of public to private land in the US. We’ve hunted several of the states in the SE and had good experiences on public lands.

      @@TheHuntingPublic Thanks for the correction, guys! I incorrectly lumped Iowa in with states farther west. You guys should make a trip to north MS over the next few seasons. I know your last trip to the southern half was marred by high water and uncooperative weather. Deer harvests have been plummeting here - for reasons unknown (2018-19 were the lowest harvests since they began tracking in 1976) - and countless MS hunters could benefit from new methods. The hospitality and the food are great too!
