Downtown L.A. has changed much over the decades. Back in the 60s the air quality was terrible, got a headache each time I went. This was a time department stores like Bullocks, May Co. and Robertson existed and still operating as normal. These stores had a elevator operator who would work the controls and door of the elevator. Stuff was largely made in the USA. I believe government politics dramatically changed the economy by printing unbacked dollars. The department stores suffered and the big box retailers boomed starting around the late 60s early 70s.
By the 1990s air quality improved substantially, almost no headaches. Department stores are gone and even the pricey but good Clifton's cafeteria on Broadway near 7th Street was gone as well as other locations. Nearby Little Tokyo no longer had tariff free stores. The Cold War turbo boost to the economy is over.
Very good information about the past in downtown. The Clifton cafeteria is still there although I haven’t gone inside. Thanks for your comment. 😍
@@ActionAndyTV Clifton was sold and is more like a night club, I think.
LA ppl all look the same.. I miss that region.. my dad was from Pomona
What? The same? BTW, Pomona is nowhere near DTLA. It's about 30 miles away. That's not the same area
That profanity at the beginning, looks like GTA 5:)
DTLA was the Walking Dead when we visited in 2022, has it improved?
No. Lol
Yes it has. Covid and the resulting work alone trend had a major impact onDTLA. It's bouncing back now.
@@antoniahamilton3201Very true. And the 3 new DTLA subway stations that opened June 2023 have made a difference too. More people going to DTLA now especially on weekends.
This is not the real LA
Of course, he must have shot it on a green screen in a movie studio. Thanks Negative Nancy
