Loved those glands.Well done Hylec. Nice to see some innovation.
Very detailed run through. Thanks guys will have to get some of these ordered in!
Looking forward to trying these when the time comes
Great fix to a problem I have seen for years. Some times when a gland is under pressure will not be able to hold the lock ring as the threads are not strong enough. When this happens you have to change the gland as the lock ring will not go back on properly.
Thanks for this, sounds incredibly dumb but the anti-clockwise instruction helped me out so much. Realised it needed tightening and it didn’t cross my mind to turn it the other way. Too much lefty loosey, righty tighty!
These are really great, the space saving is a plus.
Thanks Gaz for another fantastic video.
I always make sure I check the rubbers on my gland 😂
Very wise!
I see I am 2 years late to this video!
But I just wanted to add that this gland is designed for ONE-sided installation.
ie. you do NOT need to hold the fixing flange on the inside of the box as you were doing in the video.
The gland was designed mainly for control cabinet sized applications where one person cannot feed the thread through the panel wall, hold the gland in place, AND screw the locknut on from the INSIDE of the cabinet, because the cabinet door would require you to have 5 foot long arms!
So 2 people are needed; one outside and one inside the cabinet. = extra labour expense!
So, the new gland allows you to feed the fixing flange through the hole, then one hand is used to PULL on the cap of the gland, which pulls the fixing flange against the inside of the cabinet wall.
Then your second hand turns the locknut of the main body anti-clockwise, which clamps the panel wall between the fixing flange and main gland body and O-ring.
I prefer the Lapp Skintop-Click type design better. Because instead of a fixing flange, they have what I would call "fish-hook" plastic latches, which allow one-handed assembly!
You simply push the gland into the hole, and the hooks are squeezed inwards because they are slightly wider than the hole. Then as soon as they are through, they spring outwards and immediately hold the gland in place.
Then simply turn the locknut of the main body anti-clockwise until tight.
All ONE-handed, from ONE-side of the cabinet!
Absolutely brilliant!
Reminds me of the ol’plumbers Essex flange. I want to know why so few wholesalers stock glands for flat cable.
Those are pretty good.
Ding dong, spot on 👍
Spot on as usual
Another solution to the earth blocking the entry is to use one without that flaw. Who made the back box? Surely they need to watch this video to find out about their flaw. Sparks shouldnt have to purchase special components because other things are poorly designed.
Poorly and very small choice any or pvc alternatives
Just put the locknut first flush to the box and the screw in the gland from the outside.
Brilliant!
Interesting stuff guys!
Great demo and solution to that earth tag issue. Thanks guys. One question... how many months/years are we going to have to wait until they are readily available though? If we can't get hold of them, we can't start to us them!
Struggling to find them online. At least the black ones. Seemingly “discontinued “
This is a wonderful gland! They hit all the numbers we need. I'd like to see what their mechanicals are. We have issues with the polyamide glands, where on machinery, they vibrate loose from the backing nut. At least if they do come loose, it's an external operation to rectify.
great feedback
They want to get together with the producers of the storm gland that would be some product!
Fantastic! I'm using the old glands, with threads, here in the U.S. I hope I can find some of those new glands here and not have to order them from across the pond.
Newark sells them in the US
They look a great gland, but the problem with the earth terminal can be easily rectified if the manufacturers just moved it a bit more towards the centre of the box. It only needs a 10mm move
Great info as always, just be careful with the recording from the phone as there seemed to be a red tint in the filming which I found a lil off putting. Great product knowledge and explanation as always guys 👍
Thanks for the heads up 🦾. Gaz 👍
I was prepared to be 'meh solution in search of a problem'... but yes. I like this design to solve issues. The reason i was prepared to be meh... speed is the ENEMY of quality in most instances. This will actually save time however, because of problems that should never occur... but always do in practice
*looks sideways at schneider boxes*
Nice Movember look by the way guys :)
A common sense approach while maintaining IP rating
" no locknot required" "....and then turn the nut to lock it..."😂
Thanks for the video. I am a recent subscriber. I am needing to route coax and control cables into the cab of my vehicle. This will be for CB & Ham Radio installation. There are grommets in the cab but don’t seem to allow sealing the cab from the environments. Thanks again for your video.
👍
Good video lads. I did spot one thing when I clicked on the link! Their in the “clearance”section which is never really a good sign. They either not selling very well or they don’t live up to what their suppose to?
Phew .. Glad you clarified re: Movember Gaz ... But surely you can lose the 2 diagonal caterpillars, and comply by just keeping the middle bit ? Them caterpillars are a bit alarming 😧
I will pass on your advice to Gaz 👍
#movmber
What wholesalers will be stocking these?? They look great to use
Nice mechanism, though seems like a solution to a very niche problem. Any other contension maybe price for viability
You keep saying you don't need to get behind it to tighten/untighten, but in the video you are holding the back with your finger. Will it tighten if you aren't holding the back?
Good point - we needed hands as the equipment wasn’t fixed to a wall. If fixed down you don’t need to hold the gland. We have a few spare samples send us a DM and we’ll post you one to try.
@@efixx Thanks for the reply thats good to know!
Stopped to ask exact same thing.
It might spin when you try to undo it
@@hamkor04 I can see it might, i am, also interested in the outcome of this. @efixx.. more experiments!
I can imagine you can pull on it to create the friction you need to hold it
Nice, fantastic idea until they come loose overtime 😂 oh no it’s only the the screws in consumer units and sockets were the screws come loose overtime 😭
Jokes aside I like those, do they fit the wiska boxes? Might have to get some .
Great video guy’s as always 👍👍👍👍❤️⚡️
As long as the price doesn’t differ much from the regular ones I’d buy a few.. won’t fit in a wiska box though
Nice video guys keep it up. Have you come across the CLIXX by wiska ? I’ve not seen any info on them other than their website. The idea behind them looks very good and they’re very slim line I’m just not sure how much I would trust them I’d be interested in seeing what you guys think.
Are you thinking of a cable entry membrane used a lot in CU's, like a blind grommet, Wylex and others do them, push your cable through and they self seal, clixx is the same I think, I think they are all fire rated. Perhaps someone will correct me
@@nw5835 it is the cable retention part I’m intrigued by. There’s been a few times where i’ve needed IP rated grommets but don’t have the space to fit them they also need a retention to the cables don’t fall out. Needs might be the solution to me. But I haven’t seen anyone use them. I’m not worried about the fire rating as much.
I have glandular fever!!
I like those glands, but is the cost going to put me off buying them?
Sort that tash out Gaz! Whats so important about your nose that you have to underline it? :)
#movember
#movember
No lock ring but still has a lock ring 🤔🤔🤔
And where might we purchase such delights please Gaz?
I can’t take you two seriously with those Dodgy tashes!
#movember
You still had to insert your finger to the back side of the 25mm gland to remove, therefor IMO wasn’t a true demo of how to remove when there’s no access to the back of an enclosure.
Thats because out demo box wasn't fixed down - we will follow up showing one handed removal.
@DOOM
It was obvious that everything can be done from one side.
@@efixx From the imagery I find it difficult to accept your response. It seemed the reason the demonstrator used his finger to hold the "nut replacement" both to tighten and loosen the grip was because without doing so the "nut replacement" would spin, thereby preventing the locking nut, on the front, from tightening. What you need is a tool you can insert from the front to prevent the back nut from spinning. But that would start to make the whole thing a bit of a Phaph!
Get down to Rexel and ask for Newlec fastfix exactly the same been around for a couple of years.
Very good for repairing stainless steel catering trollies where you can not get to the other side.
Bloody pig to get out though unlike these.
so what about the OSG telling us NYY cable is verboten?
You say no tool required to install or remove the gland...apart from of course, your finger that you used both to do it up and undo while installing inverted using your EV charging point as an example where this may be helpful.
Can you demonstrate this with out holding with your finger? My guess is, without holding it, you will not be able to tighten it up that easily.
You can tighten it without holding - it’s just tricky when the box isn’t fixed down - hence the fingers. We will show this in a future video when we use them on site.
Any ideas on why you need to tighten it anti clockwise?
Wben you tighten the cable nut, you would otherwise unscrew the gland.
It must be Movember then?!
100% we announced we were doing it on one of our livestream videos 🦾. 😬
Polyamide not polyimide (closed captions ).
Where is the available
Shame they don’t make a double ended one that would allow you to join two boxes (including back boxes) and keep them perfectly level. Come on Hylec, product suggestion for you.
Remember you saw it here first…
What the heck has crowed under your lip gaz 👁👁👁👁👁, makes you look like Yorkshire ripper in his youth 😂
#Movember
In Germany we call that, literally translated, a "bogey brake"...but for a Movember that's ok...
@@Marcel_Germann Another reason to love Germany :D LOL... like it :D
Can anyone point in the direction of a wholesaler that stock or will be able to order these in, as always with a lot of these products they are brilliant in theory but if the wholesaler hasn’t got them then your stuffed!
What is the exact name or code .
4:33 sorry, what type of plastic?
PolyAmide, aka nylon :)
Stop holding the back! Hth would your hand hold it still.... so why you holding it still!?

Blimey, must save all of 5 seconds. I’ll stick to lock nuts.
