Acorn Amps - Solid State Preamplifier // Peavey Decade-Inspired Preamp Pedal

- Yup, we're continuing that hype-the Solid State Preamplifier is a pedal-format recreation of the now-famous (infamous?) Peavey Decade. While Acorn's original Solid State includes a power amp section capable of driving a cab, the Solid State Preamp skips that circuitry for simpler production, and a (much) more affordable option for those who want to bring that nostalgic, filthy, wiry distortion back into their modern rigs.
I'll be real: I've never played a Decade myself, and I'm not big on QOTSA, so that particular hype doesn't speak to me. But I did have an old 1x8 starter amp with what sounded like awful distortion at the time, and now I'm losing my mind thinking about what that amp might have sounded like, had I owned a decent cab at the time. The Solid State Preamp fills that void, though, and honestly, it's one of my favorite dirt pedals I've played lately-both for the novelty/nostalgia factor, and the fact that it just sounds straight-up rad.
*Big thanks to Acorn Amps for sending this pedal over*

Sometimes I get tired of gear reviewers, but you are the only one that I wait to drop a new video....I really enjoy the post hardcore vibe of your songs, and the way you present the various settings of a pedal. You may not be the most famous youtube reviewer, but your work and effort put in the videos are highly appreciated. 🙏
ah thanks so much, that really means a lot!
My friend, we have a new winner for my favorite song of yours (this intro is FIRE!!!).
Ahh thanks homie! Ngl it's one of my new favorites too haha
@@ambienttrash5234 keep it up my man!
Oh man that bass! Really nice muscular sounds!
it's got that alt metal tone like chevelle or deftones🔥🔥NEED
hell yeah, definitely where my head was going while jamming with it
Damn! That bass sound.
This was a very useful review.
Just found you, great review and guidance!
right on, thank you!
Now this is badass.
Pretty sure I used a model based on it in my AX8 for heavy heavy 7 string riffs. Don’t know why, it just worked lol.
Awesome pedal! I ordered one.
Can i ask the eq settings on origin? I'll play it in front of an amp. Or maybe it sounds better in return fx loop?
that bass tone tho
it really doooo
What do you think of the Old Blue vs the Acorn SS Preamp?
100% depends on what kind of sound/style you're going for-they're near polar opposites and there's prob no situation where I'd use one as a direct substitute for the other, so it wouldn't really make sense to compare them directly
Ambient trash that intro does not sound like Queens of the Stone Age. It sounds better! You crushed the entire demo. I might have to put this pedal on my wish list. But I already own a couple of older Peavey solid state amps (Bandit 65 & Teal striped Envoy). What a contrarian concept. The opposite of a tube like sounding pedal. This demo definitely has me interested. Lots of amazing tones executed by you. I see the original version was issued a little over a year ago at about $299 & the latest one that you demoed is $179. I wonder which is better?
Ha, thanks for watching and for the kind words! The original Solid State also has a power amp section and a speaker output, so it's essentially a standalone amp. The Solid State Preamp excludes those, which brings the cost down for anyone who doesn't need them. So, just a matter of your needs as I believe the preamp circuit is the same on both.
@@ambienttrash5234 Thanks for pointing those differences out. Very helpful.
It frighing kills it baby.gitchu one.
