    I bought a Nikon D3X in 2022 guys and here is why!!
    I've always loved the thought of using a D3X back in 2008 and 2009 but it was just to much money. Well in 2022 I found one for a steal of a price.
    More adventures with the D3X coming soon.

    Great quick review of the D3X. Those of you who have a Nikon D3 series camera can replace the clock battery yourself. It takes one CR1616 button battery. The clock battery is in the top of the main battery compartment. Remove the main battery and turn the camera upside down. The cover of the button battery is located just inside of the battery compartment. 😊

    I bought one in early 2020 before the pandemic and I love it. I have lots of other cameras (nikon df, Fujifilm xt2, and tons of film cameras), but I almost always grab this camera first. I just love the quality of the photos it produces. In particular, I like shooting it at 1250-1600 iso. The D3x has got the most beautiful noise I've seen on any camera new or old. Looks like velvet. It also creates some of the most beautiful black and white photos. Look just like original Fujifilm Acros. Looking forward to the follow up to this.

    Just bought one today because of the comparison with the nikon z9. Scored it at $500aud. With only 18k shutter count. One owner camera, rich dude, bought brand new back in 2009 for $9k (he had the receipt)

    I have a D3x. I have been very, very happy with it. I purchased mine in 2019, for around $900... but only had 846 shutter activations.

      @AgentPepsi1 Před 9 měsíci

      @@Vahagraphy Thank you!! 😁 I have no idea why it only had so few shutter activations, considering the cost of this camera when new. It was also in nearly "mint" condition, if you over look three small scratches in the finish. I did a little bit of modeling while in college, but even then the photographer would take 150-200 photos, or more, per session. 🤔 I do mainly landscape and nature photography. My only gripe about the D3x is the weight. I'm a relatively small girl and the camera and lens (especially like my Nikkor 80-200 f2.8) does present a challenge for me.

    Me & my brother have 2 D3X bodies & a D3s, so we bought a couple of spare little Duracell C1616 cells for the internal clocks when one kept resetting after the camera was turned off. They last many years. Just remove the big battery and the small clock battery compartment is hidden behind it on flat side.

    Excellent choice!!!! It’s been my main body for a very long time, got back in 2011 and sold it in 2020 to upgrade to a D850, though from 2017 it was my backup to a D810. I kinda regret selling it, but it made sense at the time, it was loosing market value very fast, sold it for more than twice what you paid for, it was in mint condition, it had a silicone cover fitted on for most of its life.
    I remember my astonishment the very first time I looked at those files, it was the first time that I was truly excited about digital photography, a bit like the first time I used a 25 ISO Kodachrome, excellent image quality, great dynamic range, specially vs transparency, and finally being able to crop without compromising.
    The D3 range, original, S and X, were truly the ground breaking innovations in digital photography.

    I really enjoyed this video! After watching your review, I dusted off my 2004 vintage D2x and played around with it. Everything works great, and one of my original batteries even charged up, though the indicator says to replace it soon. Back in the 80s, my photography interest was piqued when I took a photojournalism class at the University of Houston that was taught by the late Fred Baldwin. He was such an inspiration to many! (check out his autobiography, Dear Mr. Picasso: An Illustrated Love Affair with Freedom, it’s a great read.) Anyway, once I began my Speech Pathology career, my personal interest in photography waned, though I have maintained good friendships with Nikon-based professional photographers, and have kept up with the technological advancements. So now, your video has reinvigorated my photography instincts, and has me thinking that I should look for a nice used D3x, which has 25 MP vs the 12MP D2x. This would allow me to continue to use the SB 800 Speedlight as well as the vintage lenses (mostly the AF-S 18-200). Thanks for the inspiration!

    Nice catch! Always dreamt about one of these back in the day, my 5D MKII at the time was the closest I got in terms of MP count. That said, I am sure, as with any Nikon camera, this has a higher dynamic range than a 5D MKII. I am also certain this still takes some stellar photos in a well-lit environment. I was so tempted to get one that I found used here locally for about $625 but it was quite beaten and didn't inspire much confidence despite the seller claims.

    Great video. I researched this camera in the past and always wanted one but the used price is to close to a more modern used Nikon d800 series today. So, when I was looking to purchase it late November 2021, I came across a Nikon d810 with only 10 clicks for $845.00. While the Nikon d3x was $1000.00 plus. So, I bought the d810. I still want the d3x. If for nothing else but my camera collection.

    I bought a d3x and a d4 this year....I would like a z9 but will wait until the prices come down. I saw your video about the z9 vs d3x and the d3x looked like the colors were better and it actually shocked me for the z9 being the flagship camera I would have expected so much more. However, I am happy with both my purchases and will use the d4 for low-light photography and will primarily use the d3x for day shooting and good lighting settings. Thanks for your great videos and content.

      Hey Douglas - I now have both (Z9 and D3x) and while I can't use technical terms to describe it, the Z9 seem more "literal", where the D3x seems more "large, colorful brush strokes". Everyone talks about the great sensor on the D700 with (I think) larger pixel size that creates somewhat less detail (like the Z9), but has this Kodachrome-like saturation. That is what I am seeing from the D3x relative to the Z9.

      @@Vahagraphy I have several cameras and nikon and Sony Alpha а7 IV . Nikon switched to full frame only recently and I don’t have many good lenses for it. Right now it costs 50 mm 1.4. The size is convenient for me (even compared to Sony), portrait photos come out warm, I love it. The number of megapixels is enough, even when I'm cropping. I paid $800 for my camera, with a shutter count of 4500 and in perfect condition (all rubber bands are in perfect condition), the only thing is that I see 4 bad pixels when I set 14 bit color, but when I convert to 12 bit - everything is ok, they are not visible. For such a price and with such capabilities, it's a great camera, the only thing is that you don't carry it with you every day, it's heavy, I take it with a light 50mm prime lens and when I'm in the mood. When the war in my country ends, I will definitely buy lenses marked N for it, but not now, because. prices have doubled

    I bought one 2 years back with just 38k clicks on the shutter for GBP350. The reason it was so cheap is because it has a shutter calibration fault at any shutter speeds above 1/1000 and will throw an ERR. But I just use it in full sun conditions in shutter priority mode and it's fantastic. I use it a lot for night tripod work too, as per a film camera.

    I see the D3X compared with modern Nikons as a like the D7100 compared with the D7200. It's older, slower, with less buffer, poorer low light, a little more fussy about good exposure, but absolutely a fantastic camera with fabulous image output and beautiful colour. If you are a portrait photographer on a budget who knows how to focus with single point back button, then the D3X is your reliable high quality friend. 😀

    Hey Vahag! This reminds me of the Nikon d3s that I no longer own but recall I did like the image output from the sensor. I'm curious to hear your take if you notice a difference between images taken with the newer z cameras vs old using the same glass. I personally do notice a difference and can't put my finger on it but I sometimes enjoy the "look" of the older sensors. The z cameras are a bit too "squeeky" clean or sterile for my taste. For example, comparing the Nikon D4, D3X vs your z cameras using the same glass in decent lighting conditions (obviously z cameras better iso performance).

    The D3x is a superb camera and my choice over the D3 body. The 5.49 microns are relatively large on the full frame sensor, and it also has dual CF card slots. Five frames a second is more than enough for the majority of photo situations, and that 24.5MP sensor is very viable to use as a landscape camera. It is built like a tank. Although personally today for a similar used price, I'd go for the D800 over the D3x.

    • @Vahagraphy
      @Vahagraphy  Před 2 lety +1

      the dual CF slots are awesome. Makes it very easy to share files with others because you know everyone has CF cards and your common photographer does not use XQD. I love that about this camera. 5 fps, plenty like you say, No video in the camera what so ever. I find that a beautiful thing. You turn it on and you know its ready to shoot stills. No messin woth video settings. Its a 100 percent stills only camera. D800 is awesome, but this thing brings its own pizzaz

But I was always curious, what's its low light performance to the D3S at same or if in DX crop? I came from a D2H prior & the D3S was still improved over the crop of D2X 24mp.
    Awesome experience to use if you haven't yet. But go for a Dr/Lawyer owned as they just had $$ to spend & not much time to use it. Avoid working press cameras. I had to jump on it. It was well taken care of and the files are amazing. Not a low light camera I would say, Its not bad, its just not as good as a D3 or D3s. But still.If there is light. this thing delivers. Studios shots with strobes, you name it. However, you bring up a good question. How do the files look in low light? I think most people are buying cameras to capture those once in a lifetime single shot photos. Almost all cameras will do that extremely well. If a person messes up a photo, its because it was not in program mode or they do not know how use the camera in the other modes or even have bad lenses, But when it comes to shooting really nice photos, I think canon or nikon, sony or even pentax can do that very well. Unless you are a hasselblad high end pro level fashion photographer, to many people get caught up with wanting a camera do everything and they are not even paid photographers to do that. Many pro photographers concentrate on maybe action sports only fro FOX sports or ESPN or Sports illustrated.. whiles others may shoot wildlife only for national geographic, some are pros at portraits, and many others are pros at real estate or food. Many different cameras with specific lenses are design to do that. IF a person want the best video quality, invest in a cinema camera like a black magic usra mini or a arri alexa or red dragon epic. Think about some of the best award winning photos done with a film camera, dark room, and time. Those cameras were fully manual only and the photographer had to actually know how to focus the camera and use the aperture, and focus, no sophiscated complicated menu options. So if a person wants exceptional photos the Nikon D3X is perfect as well as some really great glass.
