I think your west Virginia quarter is a result of wd-40 lubricant spray @diggindave , it was probably from some garage or something to that extent .
If the coin machine gives you trouble, I recommend spending them slowly, two or three at a time when making cash purchases

I started coin roll hunting nickels. I got 2 rolls of nickels from Good Neighbors Credit Union. The second roll gave me 2 Lewis and Clark 2004s and 2 off center strikes.
Well my dad used to work for government housing and when he was picking up trash he would pick up any change that he found and would fill a bucket and then he would roll the change up and turn it into the bank and some of the change would be quite chewed up from getting ran over several times or getting smacked by a lawn mower or weed eater
I would keep the tone quarter.
I collect some of the interesting damaged coins; I call them grinders🤷🏽♂️
About those trashed quarters, I don't know about your bank, but mine has a coin machine, and if the machine rejects coins after multiple attempts, they'll let you deposit them with a teller so long as they're obviously American coins.
All federal institutions are supposed to accept the coins regardless of condition!

The damaged ones looked like somebody clipped the edges. I found a 72 half dollar proof but it looked like it was in the dirt for a few months, also looked like somebody took a flat head screwdriver and scratched X’s on both sides.

I've searched 8 quarter boxes and no silver. 3 in California, 4 in SC and 1 in PA. Working near VA Beach so I'm going to try my luck there but it looks like the banks are possibly adjusting their sorters.
Done about 25 boxes in the VA Beach area and have only found 1 silver. Lots of Ws though

The Ws have dried up here in Orlando. Had a few boxes in May with multiple Ws, silver and a few errors and varieties. The last 30 boxes since May I have found 2 Ws no silver and no errors and varieties. I met a guy who was loading bags of quarters on 3 carts. 18,000 dollars worth of quarters to be exact. He is a roll hunter too and that was his hunt over a year he was dumping. Since the planndemic coin roll hunting has increased over 300% and I believe the good stuff coming is going to be in the Honoree AWQ series error and variety wise. Keep on diggin!
