When the world needed him most, Paul returned. :) Great to see you back, Paul.
🙂 Thank you.
CZcams doesn't want people to be self sufficient. They hate anything involving hunting and trapping. Pretty soon they'll be censoring bushcraft videos too. Thanks Paul for everything you do for the community.👍
Thanks. I'll do my best to keep sharing information.
There are literally no words that are needed to be added to Paul's presentations other than, many thanks.
My pleasure. Thanks for you comments.
Thanks for continuing to post here. You are very generous with your time and it is appreciated.
Thank you. I appreciate that you appreciate it 🙂
I live in the Midwest of the U.S. near the mixed forests of the Ozarks. With years of day hikes and overnight backpacking, my favorite combo has become my Swiss Army Huntsman, Joker Ember belt knife, and folding Corona saw. These serve me well based on Paul’s concept of context. Low weight, little space taken in the pack, highly effective. Good to see you Paul.
Thanks Erik. Good to see your comment too. Sounds like you have an effective and well proven combo of tools that perfectly fits the context of what you are doing. 👍
Paul sir, I look at this as a question. Can you walk easily through this vegetation? This gives the answer.
This is quite the exciting day! Welcome back, Paul. Thanks for your time.
Hi Andrew, as mentioned on Facebook, I hope you enjoy!
So great to see you're back infront of the camera Paul!👍 I honesty think your channel and all your advice on it deserves even more and broader appreciation. Can't wait to see the next video. Cheers, Julien
Thanks Julian. I appreciate your positive words and support.
Was always a big fan of this series so I am very glad to see you back, Paul. ❤
Thanks. I appreciate you.
Glad to see a new episode. I hope we can see some more videos of your camping adventures in the future too.
Thanks, and yes I would like to make a wider variety of videos going forwards.
Yes... great to see you again, greetings from Holland, Cees
Hi Cees. Good to hear from you.
Thank you for coming back with more of this series!!!
So happy to see you’re back!!
Thanks.
Welcome back
Come again soon
You have been sorely missed
A delight to listen to your educated insights and understanding
No hype
No BS
A very welcome relief
Does the transom looks like a clove hitch over the cross piece
Yes long knives are just wood tools like axes, saws, and knives
And right tool for the job decides what to use
And of course it is great fun to use all sorts of blades
Thank you Neeman. I appreciate your positive words and your support, as always. The transom knot is basically a constrictor hitch. That's the closest relation but you right that it is similar to the clove as that is also a relation of the constrictor. I hope you are well and keeping safe. All the best, Paul
Great chat as always. Much appreciated
Cheers. Thank you Conor.
Made my day to see a new APK! Cheers Richard
Thanks Richard! :-) Cheers, Paul
Always great to see another Paul Kirtley video drop. Thanks as always sir.
My pleasure. Thank you.

Thank you. I definitely have more planned. I just need to make sure I set aside the time for making videos. I'm glad you are looking forward to more 🙂
You've made my 5 senses very refreshed & happy for 2023
Thanks Lou.
Welcome back! I learned a lot from your old
Lightweight tarp and bivy setup. My go bag has a lightweight bivy and tarp setup.
Thanks. I'm glad the previous videos have been helpful. More on the way...
@@PaulKirtley I’m looking forward to it
Glad that youre back!
Thank you.
Welcome back Paul! 💪
Thank you.
Love to see this series back! ❤🙌🙏
Thanks Joey. It's good to be back with these sessions.
Hey Paul, thanks! ‘Twas I who asked about the firesteels. Love how you don’t only answer the questions, but navigate and touch on many relevant issues/important points brought up by questions that viewers/listeners ask. 👍🏼🍻
Hi Caroline. Thanks, as always for your questions. I'm glad you appreciate the answers, and the way I present my answers :-)
Hi Paul, you used to say 'welcome..welcome'😊 please do these videos n podcasts more often🙏 great stuff and thank you!
Thanks for the reminder :-). Yes, I'll get back into the groove with a few more of these I am sure.... I'm glad you will welcome these sessions being more regular.
Good to see you still doing your thing.
Thanks!
Yeah, great to see you back. Thanks for taking the time to do these. I'm saving it for the weekend so I can listen uninterrupted 👍
Thanks Chris. Have a great weekend!
Good to see APK back again.
I like the jam knot but the only issue I have is cord recovery, I can't afford to lose cord every time I tie two stick together so cord recovery is important. I have seen the transom knot but never really used it, I think I will put it to the test.
Thanks Paul
Hi Justin, good point about the jam knot and re-using cordage. While it is economical with the amount of cord committed to it, the jam knot is really a set-it-and-forget-it type of knot. Having a range of knots in your aresenal for different outcomes is definitely wise. Thanks for your comments. Always good to hear from you. Cheers, Paul
Love the answer to machete question. Context and compromise - so relevant to most bushcraft questions. Great to see you back here mate, hope all's well, atb Andy
Thanks Andy 🙂
Great to see another video paul
Thanks Theo!
I have never missed having a large knife on outdoor trips. I would rate them as a suboptimal tool.
Hi Paul. Indeed, context is key. We have fallen, dead hardwood all over the ground in Australia. It's glassy, knotty & hard as hell. As such, I break these fallen branches down by simply snapping the 2-3" branches between the fork of a tree.
I can get away with a belt knife & my Laplander. Sometimes I only take my fixed blade.
Fantastic information as usual and some great questions there. A winter skills and campcraft series with MCQ would be an extraordinary thing to behold. Especially with his newer style on CZcams. He's a very funny guy and I think with your sense of humour it would be very good viewing. BBC worthy even. 👍
Thanks for another elaborate videos. With sharing a lot of knowledge. Great to see you back Paul.
Thank you. Good to be back.
Always enjoy this content! Good to see you brother!
Thanks Dave.
Bravo! Master returns
❤❤
Primus was one of the first commercial rods. When Light My Fire first came out they used the same handle and striker as Primus, they were just rebranded. Then LMF came up with the thumb handle and whistle striker. I still have Primus ones and LMF but I find the LMF design more bulky.
Context. Spot-on. I had two parangs over the years. I sold them on as there are no jungles in Scotland, so I never used them. I used a bill hook occasionally. If there are Hawthorn or bramble thickets I walk around them. I'm not chopping my way through them, it's needlessly destructive.
Yes, all good points!
All food for thought, Paul, thanks. I’m really pretty new bushcraft and just finding my way with what tools for what job. I have a khukuri that occupies the middle ground between knife and axe and am really enjoying exploring the contexts in which I can use it and in which it falls short. So much still to learn but that’s makes this such a great way to spend my spare time.
Great. Gaining experience is the key. Keep chipping away....
@@PaulKirtley Thanks for the encouragement, Paul, appreciated.
The Canadian Jam knot *with its lock* would be a good alternative to square lashings.
Yup, indeed. I mentioned the jam knot, and even showed images of Roycraft ski shoe with it employed. It works very well with two, one across each diagonal.
As well as a regular bushcraft knife and folding saw I carry my old army M.O.D. survival knife on my belt, it can do the job of a both a hatchet, and smaller bushcraft knife easily.
Hi Paul, nice to see you back. It seems to me that there are a lot of people out there that cannot use their common sense way of thinking, this I do not understand.
Great video
I wasn't subscribed somehow again! Mental note made to search for you now. Especially when I get your emails.
I hope things are good and you are well!
If you were on Rumble or Locals, it would be great!
good to see you back mate. My ip address is banned by Meta mate, so no bookface, Messenger, whatsapp, or instagram.. But i still have youtube for now, and of course X or formerly twitter.
Soooo... Comunications do not work in the age of communication? Something is going wrong, don't you think so? World has gone mad since 2019... Love your lessons, just keep on.
There is a lot that seems wrong. Thanks for your support. I'm glad you appreciate my material here.
Nice to see this series back Paul 👍
Thanks. I'm glad you like this series.
Very nice to catch up. I'll send a note via your email. Take care
‘Transom’ knot.
Yup.
Yes tips are always handy to learn and try
Thanks David.
Really looks hot. Funny it's freezing where i am.
I thought the Filipino bolos used a glue in their handles.
Warm for the latitude certainly 🙂
❤
Welcome back 😊
Thanks 🙂
Posting two videos a year, I thought I’d unsubscribed ages ago…
I make a lot of videos, just not all for CZcams. But there will be more here again going forwards.
Good to get advice and learn from an expert than a novice that thinks there at expert level😂
I just try to be helpful. People can call me what they want 🙂
I think one of the only reasons for a large knife thats NOT a parang is for protecting your self from a large bear or other large predator , where a pointy 10+ inch (254mm) blade is needed to reach vital organs, otherwise I chose a 5" (130mm) blade any day.
P r o m o s m 😻
Come on after long 15 17 minutes??
