I cover over 20 sonic characters in the video and most character having multiple concepts! tails wasn't supposed to be a two-tailed fox initially, but his creator, added a second one for more impact, and also inspired by the japanese cultural folklore ''kitsune''
A Kitsune is what inspired Nine’s design right?

@@thirst8015 in a more accurate way you could tell that, because it mimics the nine tailed fox, instead of tails being a simple ripoff as a two tailed fox
Felix the Cat movie clearly inspired Tails' backstory with 100% superfluous fox scene, songs that sound like christmas songs, and a type of Chili dog is mentioned in the film, one with sauerkraut from New York. Early Robotnik design would have gotten his magical pillow from Felix's bag of tricks.
In other news, same kind of movie from since-Studio-Ghibli called the Flight of Dragons clearly inspired Zelda, including CD-i zelda as Nintendo was probably hoping for sort of a DVD movie experience, by Phillips who invented the DVD technology.
The thing is that back in 1992 nobody outside of Japan knew about kitsune of yokai in general.
Blaze isn't the first cat character because honey was before her and big
Infinite was such a wasted character. He has so much potential he deserves justice.
An actual travesty that he wasn’t in the IDW comics. I’m still holding out hope that this was only because they plan to do something with him in the future, but I’m not gonna hold my breath.

. Vector’s original design seen in the ‘Sonic Rock Band’ concept idea (which is where Sharps the Parakeet comes from)
. Charmy The Bee’s original design from the Sonic The Hedgehog Manga (WHICH IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT)
That Charmy design you're thinking of is actually kind of funny because it's specifically how that artist in particular drew it. The other artists who worked on the manga drew Charmy with a design very similar to the games, with the helmet ang goggles and stuff. That one artist just ignored the established designs. Same goes for Amy, that artist drew her with brown fur and completely different hair.
The bird wearing the sunglasses was supposed to be one of Sonic's friends in the first game before he was scrapped because of time constraints. The names depended on whether it was either Sharps or Max.
Just a little fun fact here for a moment: Vector & the sunglasses bird were both created by Naoto Ohsima.
In the translation it is in fact Max. And the type of bird is a Parakeet

Fang is actually a jerboa, it was confirmed by Sega when they were talking about sonic superstars. That Cream design with the ears to the side is a jerboa too.

Boomer's only colored appearance was in the "sonic learns to drive" comic. In the comic, he has yellow skin, a red shell on his back, a grey underbelly for the shell, and red and white sneakers.
Given that Boomy was being drawn several years before Pokémon was even a thing, I don’t think it was a reference. Also the sunglasses wearing bird is named Max the Parakeet

About Tails early design, I can't remember where I heard that but in the early concepts of Tails design the developpers didn't know if they wanted him to be a fox or a tanuki, the fox was chosen because more recognizable.
Also I'm surprised you didn't talk about othe sonic designs like his usa clothes wearing wolf design that we do have drawings of

Fang's head was inspired by the Opa-Opa character from Fantasy Zone, funny enough.
I think Omega was supposed to look a lot like Gamma from a concept art I've seen on him if you want to know. I still prefer his finished design more.
Its worth noting during very early development of Sonic Heroes Gamma was actually supposed to return after being rebuilt before eventually being replaced with Omega. So maybe this concept art of Omega you've seen was supposed to be Gamma after being rebuilt

There’s an unused Omega design in the Sonic Heroes Storyboards for the Team Dark intro cutscene.

That chicken looking thing from the cayotix was from sonic's cut band from sonic one. Its also where vector came from. I don't remember his name but I believe he is a parakeet. His character is reused in the comics.
I really hope they repurpose that 2nd Infinite design one day. Either for a new game character or at least an IDW character.
I like how Infinte always had a mask.

Fun fact about Knuckles' Chaotix development: There's litteraly nothing known about the development. The closest thing is Sonic Clackers and it's concept art, and some unused sprites.
While it’s interesting to think that some of Boomer (that’s the name I’m sticking with) The Turtle’s designs may have been inspired by say Squirtle from Pokémon, I highly doubt it as Boomer (before being replaced by Miles “Tails” Prower) was intended to be introduced in Sonic The Hedgehog 2, which released in 1992. The Pokémon franchise started in 1996. But still, the potential design inspiration is interesting nonetheless.
The 2nd sonic concept is mr needlemouse which was Sonic’s og name which was mistranslated as the name was mr hedgehog

Charmy did appear in the Sonic Manga before Knuckles Chaotix where he had a drastically different design. Vector was also in a lot of Sonic 1 concept art looking more like a normal cartoon crocodile
I get it out of all other designs that making it’s they bring them all together and you can see that why you see the gamma designs they’re making them altogether and that’s how they make the final character
Shadow's design is very of it's time which is very fitting because sonic's of design is very early 90s. Shadow is the NuSonic era 🤣
The “Mr Needlemouse” was a mistranslation as the word “Hedgehog” in Japanese is spelt with the same characters as needle and mouse, so his name was originally going to be “Mr Hedgehog”
I can’t believe sonic superstars added the rabbit (like he even has a pixel form and a super form (not like that’s interesting)
Personally Sonic's slicked quills match him more cause he goes so fast they're stuck like that lol

Ironically tortoise and the hare added a black cat is a fun team Heros concept!
Edit: HOW EVER The Tortoise and the Hare added with the mole is more logical in my point of view as sonic and knuckles are like Rivals in a friendly way so basically a rabbit and a mole is basically fitting Rivals in a grown level even a underground like who is a best digger!
The green Perfect Chaos might’ve been reused for Tikhaos in the Archie Comics.

When you mention knuckles could have possibly been our first cat in the series then mention blaze insinuating that she was the first cat but then few mins after shows big the cat designs haha, just thought I’d point that out 😅
Boomy and Sonic could´ve been a play at a Sonic-Boom
there was an early concept where sonic would be the lead singer of a rock band and vector was going to be in it so its possible that was the earliest know version of the choatix

There’s actually some tails concept art but the main changes were simply his color scheme and sprites looking a lot more like AOSTH/satam tails
*Looking at Blaze's concept art* Aaaah, it's a base for Surge? Like seriously, IDW used this to make Surge just by giving it the glitch sonic color pallet.

I heard somewhere that Silver's name was originally Venice. I believe they did this because Soleana was inspired by Italy.

They used the turtle character in a sonic Archie comics. I remember reading it as a kid. But the fact sonic gave a turtle ride in the movie was a reference blows my mind.

Name: Rabbit the Rabbit(silly name, I know. Blame Superstars)
Profile: Just another wandering action guy like Sonic and Mighty, though a bit more silly.
Terios the Hedgehog(hybrid of the four concepts)
Profile: About as much backstory as Boom!Shadow, he's an arrogant asshole with delusions of grandeur.
Proto-Blaze:
Name: Azure the Ash
Profile: Basically the Sol Dimension's Mephiles, though she's oddly friendly and casual.
Boom the Turtle:
Profile: I dunno, just another Extreme Gear competitor. His techy shells just screams Sonic Riders to me.

Proto Knuckles:
Name: Claws the Mole
Profile: Guardian of Onyx Island in Silver's future.
Unused Band Members: They're a Trio Band called the Underground. Madonna is their agent.
Proto-Rouge:
Name: Facet the Wingless Bat
Profile; A mercenary who worked with Clutch the Opossum in the days before Eggman.
Venice the Mink: After changing the past so much, Silver's genetic past no longer exists. Finally achieving a good future, Silver discovered the very cynical and sleep deprived Venice living the life he would've otherwise lived.
Other Proto Silver: Bronze the Porcupine.
Basically the Sonic of Silver's Good Future, minus the whole "main character" thing.
Mummy Infinite: Literally Infinite's corpse being repurposed, maybe by that Owl design you liked so much.
