    10. Radiohead - They have been dominating rock since the 90's. It's been 24 years but I don't think there will never be another album released that will be as good as OK Computer (1997). I can only think of two albums that came close -- Kid A (2002) and In Rainbows (2007) and Radiohead made both of them.
    9. The Velvet Underground - Not many people bought the Velvet’s albums when they were originally released, but everyone who did formed a band. The alternative rock scene of the late 80's and 90's owe it all to them.
    8. Black Sabbath - Invented heavy metal and still are the best metal band in history. Any hard-rock band that ever tried to write a crazy twelve-minute operetta owes them a debt.
    7. The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Everybody knows that Jimi Hendrix is the greatest human being to ever touch a guitar. Is he even human tho? Challenged the entire rock genre by doing shit that had never been done before with his guitar. Hard rock, psychedelic rock, and heavy metal wouldn't have survived or even existed without the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
    6. Queen - The greatest rock performers and nobody comes close. Easily the most iconic pop/rock group ever.
    5. The Who - The pioneers of the rock concert, rock attitude, rock lifestyle. They completed the definition of rock.
    4. Pink Floyd - If you were to write a list of the top 10 best albums of all time... it should include at least 15 Pink Floyd albums or it wouldn't be valid.
    3. Led Zeppelin - In terms of pure musical talent, they are the greatest line up of music since the history of music. They basically just set the standard of what "Rock" should be.
    2. The Rolling Stones - Have always been regarded as the best "rock and roll" band especially after the Beatles broke up.

I never loved Zeppelin, but I don't think any objective list of greatest rock bands can omit them(many would put them at number one). What amazes me most about the bands I mentioned is that everyone one of them has a song catalog that puts them above all other groups. Factor in that all of them sounded great live(even The Beatles), it's hard for me to exalt any other groups above them.

      True. Rock fans have been listening to the same music for decades now, which is understandable because it's really good, but it doesn't really inspire artists to make new rock music and it doesn't help that music get a following. I wish more people would open up their musical horizons, not just in the rock genre but in general. I'm a fan of classic rock, but I don't feel bad about liking modern pop or rap songs. Music is music.

    • @thatsamazin-

      TechnicalHotDog I see it different. I see lots of people stuck back in an era too lazy to search for newer music. There is always awesome music being created and with the internet, we have more at our fingertips. We used to just listen to what the radio and mtv fed us mostly. That was also back in a time when most artists were signed to some major label which didn’t really give you the freedom to be creative like you can be now. Back then, you kinda had to worry about getting on the radio or mtv. In order to do that, you have to please many people. Now, you can just put your music on CZcams. You are right about people searching for the same ole stuff, but ignorant music fans won’t be dictating what the musicians are gonna be out there doing. They will do their thing. It’s up to us to find it.

    The reason why the Beatles are the best rock band of all time was because they basically made the music what it is today. They invented the whole concept of pop and the rock songs we love was pop at that time. Pink Floyd and queen are fantastic bands but there music wouldn’t have been the same whiteout Beatles. You can’t say Beatles just made pop or a certain type of music. Beatles did art in form of a day in the life and all sort of songs. Beatles was revolutionary back then and is still.

      The Beatles also had very experimental music with deeper lyrics, their first 3 albums just don't have them as much.

They appeared and our world changed, music was never the same, it became the focal point of our dreams and aspirations, a daily societal turning point that changed everything. Like a mantra of life, a call to freedom that said; love is all you need, and the world can be as one! To explain it is to know the meaning of life, there are no words to compare to the excitement, togetherness and the purpose of turn on your mind, relax and float downstream! They enabled a progressive realization that everything is possible, they dominated the most intensive decade of change in history. Radiohead makes the list but the Doors and Nirvana are "honorable mentions??" I watched Nirvana completely change the musical landscape with one album.. uugh who makes these mojo lists?

      It's kinda hard to put a band like Nirvana with only to three albums on a top ten.Their impact was bigger than Radioheads but Radiohead has more music,better music and made a massive impact too.

      Those top two spots are indisputable imo. The top 5 in fact is quite respectable.... but yes I believe the 6 - 10 spots could interchange with 10 or 15 more bands on a well thought out Top 20 list.

      @@nickpreeper381 I agree that Radiohead is awsome but without nirvana there would be no radiohead. Nirvana changed the world and their impact is still felt til this day. They so many great songs but mainly people think of teen spirit and that's it. Jimi Hendrix only has 3 albums yet he often regarded as one of the all time greats. Nirvana is definitely up there.

    This wouldn’t be my list, but this would definitely be the best list as to what the most people would consider the defining bands of each decade:
    60s = The Beatles
    70s = Led Zeppelin
    80s = U2
    90s = Nirvana
    00s = Radiohead
