I'm a white man that grew up on a farm in central PA. My parents played traditional southern gospel growing up. I moved to Philadelphia in 1989 and I've been going to Indian buffet restaurants since my arrival. A place called Tandor used to play music like this in the mid 90s. I would eat by myself and gain a spiritual enlightenment to the point of tears. The owners have changed 30 years later and now the Indian music is derivative of American Hip Hop with auto-tune and terrible contrived beats. I miss this music.

The partition of India and the post partition violence compelled their family to move to the broken western part of India, Pakistan. Those who say that NFAK is not Indian, are massively wrong. The whole art of Qawali is Indian and it has evolved to the current shape over centuries. Pakistan is an offshoot of India, so is Bangladesh - the clipped away Eastern wing of India. 🇮🇳🇵🇰 🇧🇩

Rahats good but in my view he hasn’t (yet) taken the category forward or innovated like the late UNFAK Ji, his late father as well as the entire group of its day, nor do I feel he can be as soulful as his cousin Mansoor (who doesn’t get the credit & airtime he deserves) nor has he crossed boundaries or faiths like UNFAK, his father & generation before .... Bollywood benefitted. That said, this shows a glimpse of what he’s capable of. Hope Rahat & Mansoor can duo together.... one day UNFAK & group should be given official plinths across the continents. Rahat might be good in his league but he isn't even 2% of what Nusrat was. I might have been just 5 years old at the time but I'm glad I got thr opportunity to listen to the legend when he was alive, during his last India tour.

Rahats good but in my view he hasn’t (yet) taken the category forward or innovated like the late UNFAK Ji, his late father as well as the entire group of its day, nor do I feel he can be as soulful as his cousin Mansoor (who doesn’t get the credit & airtime he deserves) nor has he crossed boundaries or faiths like UNFAK, his father & generation before .... Bollywood benefitted.
That said, this shows a glimpse of what he’s capable of. Hope Rahat & Mansoor can duo together.... one day
UNFAK & group should be given official plinths across the continents. They could do one thing politicians can’t..... unite the people..... once in a millennium folks

@@underratedworld2900 I agree, Rahat is good but probably only as a commerical singer. Nusrat ji would always be a the legend, the greatest voice ever recorded, the numero uno. Rahat might be good in his league but he isn't even 2% of what Nusrat was. I might have been just 5 years old at the time but I'm glad I got thr opportunity to listen to the legend when he was alive, during his last India tour.
