That’s why baby otters have to stay with their mommies for a year after they’re born. Some otter species’ pups don’t even like the water at first and have to be dragged by the neck into the water and dragged down when being taught to dive. There are some funny videos of otter mamas having to chase their babies around to get them in the water. And once they’re in there they swim right back to shore and get out, so the mama has to do it over and over again. Lol
For those complaining: This is the equivalent of a human mom in the kitchen and the kid is screaming for attention on the other side of the baby gate set up in the kitchen entrance

They can’t swim yet, but parents still need to eat, and they’ll often be left alone on the beach while mom finds food. Their parents are skittish and will abandon babies if humans get too close.
