    Please note that you may need to enable the ham radio mode in the beginning by using the pc software otherwise you won't get same menu options on the radio.
    To get the ham radio mode you will need to; first read your radio into the software, then select from the public menu on the left, "optional setting," then select the "other" tab, near the bottom it says "choose working mode" select "amateur mode" then program your radio with the new setting ;)

    This video rocks. Thanks for clear speaking and having the camera close enough to follow visually. Major error in many videos on this unit is the camera work.

    Thank you. I've been struggling with the front pannel programming for a while, basically because the way someone programmed the code plug weirdly, and the zone names and channel names are screwy. That's the last time I just dump a code plug into my radio without checking it first.
    Anyway, figured things out, and used your demonstration and was able to program a bunch of analog repeaters, plus the simplex FM call frequency in. I am getting even more joy from this radio, now.

    Question, if you can program offset, why program tx and rx freq?

    • @myCloudWatcher
      @myCloudWatcher Před 2 lety

      Split vs. Offset: In the "old days" we used small delta plus or minus to allow for full duplex repeaters. Today the Digital has a "Split" and the send and rx values can be 2.5 mhz. So the question is Split or Offset. On my radio offset has a very small limit. Split has NO limits. As for Cross Band Split. That is a special case.

      Make sure you have your radio is in “amateur mode.” You can find this in the CPS software under “Optional Settings” and “Other.” Once you have that selected, build a scan list and you should it listed.

    You have to be able to turn it on first. Mine is locked and can not be turned on. Also can not connect it to a computer. Tried several different cables finally got one to work but the software did not let me connect to the port. Software was stuck on port 3 Radio was on port 6. If I could get the computer and the radio to talk I might have been able to unlock it.

    Ok so I don’t understand anything yet about what you said as I am completely new to ham and the radios. I bought this radio and have been doing the practice test to get my license and am having a really hard time understanding what all this stuff means. Do you have any videos or advice on what each function means? Like for example, what is tone and what does it do and how do you know what to set it to? Also say me and my wife want to talk to each other on this radio and say a anytone 6666 unit how would we do that? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • @applejacks971
      @applejacks971 Před 3 lety

      Tones are utilized to talk to repeaters. Every repeater has its own frequency and tone. If you acquire a 'repeater book', every repeater in the country is in there with the tone frequency and offset.
      I'm don't do well at explaining things, its a bit of a learning curve. Your questions should be answered in the Tech book. If you jumped straight to the practice tests, I highly recommend getting the 'Tech class' book and reading it, its well worth the $25ish and explains everything really well. Good luck!

    The frustrating thing about this radio is that the menus never line up with these tutorials. I made it three steps in and mine doesn't have "Option #2, channel set" - there is only Radio Set and Device Info. I'm sure there's a reason for that and probably something that needs to be done first, but now I have to go find another tutorial to figure out that problem. It's a very frustrating rig to try to use without CPS.

    • @K0LWC
      @K0LWC  Před rokem

      It boils down to your firmware and how you have your settings set in the CPS. This radio is also running in commercial mode which is beneficial for a variety of reasons.
