What If We Stopped Burning Fossil Fuels RIght Now?

  • What if everyone on the planet said "no" to their gas-powered cars right now? And not just cars - gas dryers, water heaters, gas stoves, lawn mowers...
What if we stopped burning fossil fuels all at once? Would this make our lives so much more inconvenient? What would happen to our climate? Would it help us beat global warming?

Best ways again climate change :
    1) plant more trees
    2) burn less plastic and other waste
    3) use solar panel and other renewable energy sources
    4) use your bicycle at least 2 days a week.
    5) spread awareness around your neighborhood about the effects of climate change

Even if it's only 1 panel and a car battery, solar power systems are very modular, even if you are poor you can scale up your system as you buy parts
200W solar panels can be had for less than $60 each if you know where to look

It is not politicians who are to decide when internal combustion cars will be removed from production and new technologies must displace them spontaneously, just as horses have been displaced by cars, just as machines have replaced people in the hardest jobs.Just as electricity with its innovation displaces kerosene lamps and then gas lamps from the market, it was not politicians who decided about it, but the technological development of people. the process of introducing electrofication took over 50 years to reach every home, the same must be the process of replacing the car or other technology that uses minerals or oil, otherwise there will be famine, poverty, riots and wars.

What if we broke the compounds into its simpler element state. It seems rather impossible (well yeah it is) cause we cant get the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere since its not that thick when you look at it, in order to break a compound, you need the actual compound and use method such as electrolysis (a method that uses electricity to break atomic bonds of a compound). But i have a farly or almost impposible yet probable solution. What if we copy the bio structure of plants and make one using machines? Plants are capable of absorbing carbon dioxide as well as sunlight and water to create their food this process is called photosynthesis, and the process happens inside the chloroplast an organelle responsible for breaking down and merging specific compounds into much rather complicated one (but actually not that complicated) but the only problem that we have is how can we copy the chloroplast? I dont know either even though chloroplast came from a bacteria cynobacteria (a simple yet extraordinary bacteria that produces food by itself) we still dont know how it breaks and merge compounds. But who knows, if we can imagineit, we can invent it right?

if humans ever find out how to create a replica of a cell, then that’d be the most revolutionary science that could ever exist. imagine creating cells, which is the basic unit of life, u might be even creating a whole new life form, or even resurrect humans or save humans on the verge of death

This is awful. It looks so intimidating and heightening.
Why do we need so much fossil fuels anyway? Isn't there a safer alternative? Maybe there is something less polluting and can safe our world from over heating.
I think it's time to change. I know change is hard but once we do it and get accustomed it will be a part of our every day routine.
Reduce plastic, get more cardboard, safe our oceans and safe our trees.

+6° would be the death of all living things on earth, we just passed 1.5, with 2/3 of the contribution done is last 30 years. So 1 degree per 20 years, without acceleration we would have 90 years left, but actually much less because its accelerating, and wars starting much sooner than that. I give this planet 10 more years.

Yes, climate change is irreversible (the very conservative IPCC’s latest reports on climate change already confirmed this). But climate change is also abrupt (also confirmed by the IPCC’s latest reports).
If we stop burning fossil fuels right now, the biggest issue would be the loss of “aerosol masking”, which, with the existing concentration of CO2 now being further heated by direct sunlight, would speed up global warming… making climate change even more abrupt than it already is. And in its current state, and the current state of human socio-economic and technological development, we are already at high risk to lose habitat for the human species, this would be ill advised.
The best thing we can do now, is 1. To make structural change to society by changing our economic model of “forever growth” to a sustainable model. 2. To device methods to reflect more sunlight back into space (i.e. amplify something the earth naturally does via the albedo effect) by using light colors and mirrors. Both on the planet surface, as well as (if possible) in space… 3. Increase the amount of carbon sink through natural sequestration of CO2 both on land (with trees) and in water (by increasing phytoplankton populations)… 4. Change subsidies by removing them from fossil fuels (initially from big business, then from medium size enterprises and lastly from small business and people) and direct the subsidies to the development of clean, renewable and sustainable energy projects (to encourage funding of these projects into energy generation that os already cheaper than fossil fuels).
All these 4 things require significant investment, as well as a drastic change in the established economic framework. The new economic framework cannot continue to support either Capitalism, or Socialism/Communism as both these ideologies rely on infinite growth (on a finite planet with finite resources). The new economic framework should be centered on “ecosystem sustainability”, as human habitat is inextricably linked to flora and fauna that have their own individual habitats. We need to let go of the human-centric view, and start considering the wholistic planetary ecosystematic view if we are going to try to avoid the extinction of our species and potentially all others with us.

What caused it to go 4 degrees hotter back then? I’m not saying I have the answer but just curious at that fact

Matthewlh You learn this in geography. The earth goes though cooling and warming up eras. Cooling eras are normally longer, but we aren’t going to talk about that. These periods of time take millions of years, the increase of 4 degrees was gradual and it took a really long time.
The problem with climate change is that, the earth’s temperature increased with over 1 degree Celsius from the 1800s. That’s around 218 years. The planet is warming up too quickly because our actions have consequences. We are helping global warming.

Depressed Bish. Global warming is a scam you know that right? Al gore has admitted to this and everyone’s falling for it. Yes the earth has gotten slightly warmer that’s a fact but it’s so minor that it won’t affect the earth atmosphere in the next millions of years.
