    It's sad there has been so much vandalism and wonton destruction of the images. Obviously time has been a factor but stupidity appears to be the main problem. Great travel video, well off the beaten track.

      There’s is some vandalism. But in the video at 40:05 you’ll see chips of paint off of there faces and hands in the church. Well the people believe back then that if they chipped off the eyes of the people painted on the walls and they mixed that paint in water and drank it that they would be healed of there own problems. If they had allergy problems they’d chipped the nose off and mix it in water and drink it. That goes for any body part. I just got back from a week long tour over there and we had a Professor at the University of Cappadocia with us telling us all of this stuff. So it really helps to know all the facts when it comes to these old churches. Such a mind blowing place for sure!!

    For those who wish to take the hot air balloon in the future visit, take it as soon as you arrive, it starts at 5am pick up at hotel. All hot air balloon were cancelled the day after I took mine & the next 3 days due to high wind. Turkey make of of the safety, so that's a good thing, but many tourist came but missed the chance and had to leave due to other schedules. I was so lucky I took it & it's magical view was so worth it, I just wish the people in my basket stop talking the whole time.
    I was in Cappadocia last July, and also been to Bryce Canyon this August. Both are geological wonders, but I think Cappadocia is more magical, grand due to it's size and the ancient history which makes it more grander. I wish I have time to check out more of the cave churches, we did some hiking near the Pigeon Valley. If you have time, just drive a little outside of Cappadocia, Avanos is where all the locals live, it has a river with Gondola and willow trees, swans, ducks, it's charming. The locals outside of Istanbul are so friendly and helpful.

    • @worldcitizeng6507
      @worldcitizeng6507 Před 3 lety +1

      @@angelg.8462 it's easy, your pick up is usually around 5am, maybe just enough time for a coffee before departure. The driver will take all the guest to the balloon site just before sunrise. Some tour include breakfast e.g. coffee, Turkish pastry on a table next to the balloon, some don't due to pricing on the package, so a chance to quickly snack while they blow up the balloon. I was busy taking the best pic :)
      You will be too excited to think about bathroom from the air, busy taking pic that the 1 hour air time just fly by. After the balloon landed gently on a truck bed, they will serve a champagne, take pic and drive everyone back to hotel for proper breakfast by 8am. The price varies, more air time means higher price, but most last for 1 hour for sunrise. A travel agent told me that in December, they might be able to have flights in the afternoon depending on the wind. Sunrise is the best experience.

    This was incredible! Can’t believe these historical sites are just left like that and not protected and maintained. But on the other hand it makes these sites to be more authentic being left as they are. It almost felt that you have just discovered these caves and it felt more exciting than when the sites are turned into a museum and there are hordes of tourists visiting. Those manicured historical sites seem more distant and you cannot feel how it really was back at that time. On the contrary those cave houses and churches that you just showed us feel so real and I can imagine what the life could be in those settlements. Thank you Gabe for being so brave and going off the beaten tourist sites to show us these incredible and authentic parts of history.

    Funny moment at 17:51. You say "United States" the guy thought you said: "Yunan" (Greek). By the way so happy you are in Cappadocia. I am 100% Cappadocian, both my parents are from Guzelyurt, a beautiful small village near Goreme. Sadly they had to move to Greece during the exchange. We live in Creta. Many muslim Cretans went to Cappadocia. We took their houses and they took ours. Crazy!

    I have been to Cappadocia on 5th August. That's so sad though that the tour operators don't show these places to tourists. They brought us to Selima area, to Pigeon valley and Idlara valley where actually don't see anything but just walking
