I especially like the "fix" for adding slats at the front as you build up the compost pile. Excellent video. I'm collecting pallets for a 3 stall bin to build this spring using your instructions.
I think that what makes this video unique is the coffee, bugs, and the interaction with smart Lisa! :0) I'll be picking up 7 pallets today and will be following your excellent video. Thanks for sharing.
I love the simplicity of this, I'm definitely going to have a crack. That little white grub is a very destructive one to they demolish crops and grass, so when you spade out your compost be sure to pick them out. Chickens love em!
I have the pallets and am going to build one this week. (when it stops raining for an hour or so) I like Lisa's idea on the guide for the removal boards. She has some good ideas. Keep up the good videos.
I have watched every one every week and they have been great. Hope u keep going after the year is up coz u have given us some great ideas. Thanx for your time over the last year. Gary
Cool videos all this year. I am about to build some work benches out of 2 shipping pallets my truck toolbox shipped in last year. They have just been sitting in my carport and I thought to myself I could make a bench similar to yours using those pallets. Thanks for the inspiring videos.
We have one garden no dig and the other is tiled. The No dig is superior! We throw banana peels and coffee grounds out the window into the garden. Adding wood chips to the mix makes unbelievably good soil.
Haha! That looks like me with the coffee... it goes everywhere with me in the morning. You should use a to-go insulated mug with a lid, sos you don't get floaties.
I love building things out of repurposed material. I'm heading out to get some pallets today to build this. Any suggestion on whether or not I need to cover it during the fall/winter to keep it dry? And I liked seeing the coffee and bugs. My wife would have been carrying her coffee out to help, too. LOL And it's good to see what bug, worms, etc will help with the process. Thanks for sharing...and btw, your wife was brilliant with her ideas for the stacking of the boards on the fourth side and storage of the extra boards. I'm going to steal those ideas. Thanks again!!!
I've got a plastic compost bin behind my house. It's currently full of flies and beetles and all sorts. There's also a half eaten McDonalds cheeseburger in there which is so far refusing to decompose despite being in there since October...
Love the video! Can I ask what the opening song was to the video? I like it! Also, as Durham native I was shocked to hear you say "here in North Carolina" since your accent is more...Michigander?
I've found that the removeable boards on the front of the bin are useless. I've had my bin fulll many times, and have never had trouble containing the material in the bin. Also - if you turn your pile often as I do, removing the boards every time so I can get in there with a pitchfork is a pain. Nice video though!
Which brand/model is your cordless drill? In my country they only try to sell you nicd! very old models in the stores so I want to order one li-on one from ebay, thanks!
Great project..I've used some of your ideas...will you post a follow up?? want to see the end product..instead of the insects how would worms introduced work?
you know whats better? go to home depot and look at the wooden crate boxes that hold the rock slates in the garden section. they are already built, they are strong, and free. go get them instead for compost bins. I did today. One was 2 ft x 3 ft x 2ft tall. Your a welcome yall!
A few years ago , businesses couldn't "give" enough pallets away!! Now, I went to Home Depot last week and found a stack of pallets out back. A big sign on the fence, "WARNING" These pallets are the property of....... blah, blah" .."DO NOT REMOVE!" Too many clever D.I.Y. people,( like us), have found the beauty and use in these! Soon, I'm afraid they won't be "free" anymore, or as available! L.O.L.
Awesome video! ALWAYS make sure your pallets are untreated! 👌🏼😉
Lisa is one smart lady ! Thanks for posting this :)

I'm glad it isn't overly fancy. He had nothing to prove except how to make a functional bin. Good work.
Its little videos like this that make big differences, Thanks for sharing!
Been seeing a lot of diy compost bin pile and this one is by far the best one. Like the stacking idea!
Very nice compost bin, brilliant design Lisa,as a team you two are awesome!!😊
This was the best video on how to make a compost bin out of pallets! Gonna watch more of your vids. :D Thanks!
I love the simplicity of this, I'm definitely going to have a crack. That little white grub is a very destructive one to they demolish crops and grass, so when you spade out your compost be sure to pick them out. Chickens love em!
Lisa is the mind you are the builder, thanks for sharing.
I made one of these today! Thank you for sharing!
Just the thing I was looking for! Simple and practical. Already have a couple pallets, just need a couple more :)
I have the pallets and am going to build one this week. (when it stops raining for an hour or so)

Lining the inside of the walls with chicken wire can help keep more compost inside while also allowing proper airflow. Overall, nicely done!
Very solid! I'm digging the sliding wood bar
that is a sweet bin i will be building a couple of these on my day off thanks for the great vid

yes...Great idea for stacking boards.. love it so much
Thanks Dude, excellent vid. New use for wooden pallets and save the environment.

Starting to garden for the first time I think ill try this
Fun video to watch and great ideas on how to do it
i did mine w/4 pallets held together w/wire.....just untwist the wire on 1 side & unload.....easy easy!!!
my chickens love it.....best organic shredders....win win
Wonderful idea! And your wife is a genius :)

That beetle is the site supervisor..lol..great vid cheers ;-))
Great idea
Awesome videos.Keep up with the good job. :)
Like the diversity of the videos ... Your beetle is a patent-leather beetle
Looks like it works!
That cut worm you found will decimate your crops. Shoulda stepped on the S.O.B
Cutworm? it looked like a Japanese beetle larvae to me. But I agree with you. SMASH IT.
That was not a cut worm, it was a Rhino Beetle Grub. It's a great decomposer and only eats on dead material. No harm to plants.
excellent hack...... your awesome
Awesome job! especially when you work together. Thanks to our Carolina Cousins.
Lisa's a genius
You: "How do I get straight to the point???"
u b makin' me >>
I love how you like insects like I do and save them all.
What kind of nails did you use to make your awesome compost bin? I'd like size of the nail and height and width of the pallets. Thank you so much! ♡
I've got a plastic compost bin behind my house. It's currently full of flies and beetles and all sorts. There's also a half eaten McDonalds cheeseburger in there which is so far refusing to decompose despite being in there since October...
It's a Bess beetle, good guy. :) Also the white worm is a grub.
Way to go Lisa!
nice! I think I will build one like that. When is your wife available to help me? She is full of good ideas! Lucky man! Thumbs up and I subscribed.
Good idea is to put some 1/4 inch wire on the inside to keep small mice moles etc. out.
I have had a pallet composter now for 15 years.
Thanks for the video... And btw it's a Bess Beetle.
Hahaha !
Behind everyman is a good woman. Lisa, you ROCK ! I am not 100% certain, but that grub looks like a Japanese Beetle and CHICKENS love them.
Wire mesh stapled on the inside to keep the compost from falling through the cracks. Otherwise a very good project.
I was just doing this just yesterday and it fought me the who day long. The screws would not go in. Please tell me what screws you used.
Love the video! Can I ask what the opening song was to the video? I like it!
Also, as Durham native I was shocked to hear you say "here in North Carolina" since your accent is more...Michigander?
@0.25 seconds, nice plants ;)
Gracias

Make sure you use domestic pallets as international pallets contain arsenic.

What a smart lady lol 🍃🙆🌻🐛
Maybe solidify that bottom board on the front. I think as it fills the weight may spread it and the boards will fall out.
if you screw the bottom board to the 2 sides, then they won't slide sideways & open the front opening letting the boards fall out!
some friends of mine built three like this for there composting toilets , you cant even smell anything standing right next to them
I pass a place everyday that throws their pallets away...It's pouring rain today so I shall be stopping there on Monday!!
The inside of the bin could be covered with grilling so as to better keep the matter inside.

What song is that playing at the start?
They are Pumpkin seedlings
i want to build something like that but i want to build a double compost bin can you make a video of that

Dude, focus...
where in nc?
The guy from Kung Fu.
better to build a slide so you can slide off the front
How about some collards
I think you could have planted those potatoes instead of throwing them in the compost xD
your compost will be falling through the sides... I suggest cover the sides with some wood boards.Good job anyways :) cheers
Chicken wire along the inside would do the trick.
At 4:15 Bear Grylls would have eaten that :)
Coachman Beetle
Ha white grubs are not good at all! Those are what your beetles are coming from aswell.
4.09 thats a grub yroots
ou dont want them in your garden it will eat the
The beetle, the snail and the grub, they are all pests and will destroy your plants. Surprise you did not know this.
abdulrahmangheasi
This video could have been 5 min shorter if he didnt waste our time looking at damn bugs and putting down his coffee
What's your problem mate..? If you don't have 5 minutes buy yourself a composter in a shop...:)
Funny
You must be fun at parties...
вигня и все не поруски
I came here to see a pallet compost bin built... not to look at "cool" bugs. :)
I've seen Paint dry faster! yawn!
ComPOST" pronounced as in LOST not as in HOST.
