One thing that shocks me about HOTD and what makes me believe it may just become the best show of all time is that its real story hasn't even started. What we've seen in the show so far is just an intro and only 5 paragraphs into the actual story. The full story is 350 pages

When I first heard of House of the Dragon, I honestly did not care much for it, believing it to be a silly spinoff. Now, am waiting every Sunday for each episode. Am totally mind blown.
Ir's more than exceeded my expectations. Even with the time skips, the main characters have been laid out enough that you know who's who, but not so much that you completely understand their motivations. Each episode continues to surprise me without boring exposition. I can't believe how much we've seen and the dance hasn't even started!

The biggest weakness of House of the Dragon thus far is that it has no Tyrion character yet, no relatable and comedic rogues.
Good thing it has so confident character then. It feels more realistic.
What i hate about HOT is there are no thinkers like Tywin, Varys, Tyrion, and Littlefinger, they just gave GOT that push

The bigger win for HOTD is that the source material is completed. So they don't have to improve major stuff like the ending. So the idea that they don't replicate character like tyrion is pretty obvious cause it's In a different time in westeros.
There’s so many great characters in GoT, but because of the way it ended, HotD could end up being the better show (overall).

HotD is set to have the stronger conclusions and it does great at expanding on the book material. It likely will surpass it’s predecessor in critical acclaim and fans approval. And to be honest the one element of this franchise that everyone loves the most is House Targaryen and dragons.
bullshit, i like the targaryens but what drew me to GOT was the fact that each episode basically had sub episodes across the world. Jons time at castle black and beyond the wall was my favorite by far. Robb Stark before his eventual demise was also golden.

GOT just had way more compelling characters. Both in number and in their story. Even in just the first season. Not to mention what was going on north of the Wall is what really drew me in.
HOTD wins with much less nudity. Which is refreshing in a first season on HBO. It sticks to being plot driven vs throwing T and A around to draw watchers to it.

Hotd definitely help cleanse away some of the negative feelings I had from the awful 8th season of GoT. The only thing this show is missing is some good humor. This first season has just been serious and dark the whole time. Not saying that’s a bad thing but GoT had a great mix of both.

The biggest disconnect for viewers in HOT D is probably the time jumps. It’s great that we’re finally done with all that whole nonsense and can focus on telling a great story.

Your end assessment is correct BUT the finale of season 1 of HOTD hasn’t even aired yet, Waiting a week to drop this would have been more appropriate imho. You guys probably got an advanced copy like some others🐉
HOTD is good, don’t get me wrong, but GOT (minus the conclusion/end) is just one of the best shows ever made - even on rewatch. The world feels so vast and so real. The characters diverse and each so interesting. I could never pick a favourite watching GOT. In contrast, the world of HOTD (to me at least) feels small. Only 2/3 of the characters capture my attention, and even that is eclipsed by the level of interest I had for the characters in GOT. And the most important thing, GOT was incredibly unpredictable. I truly didn’t know what would happen. While watching HOTD I predicted nearly everything and this fact alone is the deal breaker for me. But who knows, maybe the next few seasons will change my mind.
Facts. HOTD is borderline boring to me. I found myself waiting for episodes to be over just to say I watched it

Literally every main character in GOT deserved an Emmy by comparison (using character names): Cersei, Tywin, Dany, THEON, RAMSAY, JOFFREY, even Varys. Paddy was good but all of these actors were just as good if not better in their performances

Its too early to say but I feel HOTD would really surpass GOT. Not only plot wise, a huge part of it is that the people behind this learned from the latter and would not mean to destroy yet another potential masterpiece of a tv show. We have to trust that they’re going to make it right this time and understood the assignment and so far it has been a solid season 1.

I personally didn’t need the HOTD season finale to know that GOT s1 was far superior. That said, the finale was the best episode but everything else was borderline lame IMO. Covid had an obvious impact on the end product
I would have chosen House of the Dragon. I really liked how they fleshed out the characters. The first season of game of thrones had to many storylines at once, it was hard to keep track

Very well done comparison. GoT is my all time favorite book series and everytime I read it I feel as though I’m going home (a violent home but still). I love it and it is everything to me. HOtD is just as good so far. Im loving Daemon Targaryen and I’m Team Black🖤. It may end up being the better series when it ends, we will have to just wait and see. And when King Viserys hobbled into that throne room in ep 8, I almost stood up to curtsy.
That scene was incredibly corny to me and drawn out. Especially with how rushed everything else felt, I felt annoyed when they had these slow, grandstanding scenes of dramatic nothingness. Kind of like when Alicent walked into Rhanyeras wedding. It’s like ok we get it she’s team green obviously. Let’s get to the plot

- Rythm : Very Well managed vs. Inconsistent

HOD is better. Damon is the stick out character you hate and then love.

Having read all of the books and seen every single episode of both shows... i've come to this conclusion.
Game of Thrones: starts off very strong, very grandiose and large in it's scale. It's truly an epic you're ready for!! strapped in and ready for more after season one... only to get diminishing returns on excitement post season 4. Then it just limps to the finish line with most story lines either ignored or rushed. Why? It's too much!!! A story like this? It would've taken like 12 seasons to get right... and we all know how it ended...
House of the Dragon: I get it... the story seems... smaller? Sure, but consider this. The story is also more focused, and now only dealing with ONE THING!!! Who essentially "wins the game," but only between two sides of one family. Season one sets the chess pieces on the board, and with the end of episode 10, the chess pieces are now all about to move. I know exactly how this story ends, and barring any kind of deviation, we're all in for a wild WILD ride.
I'm personally looking forward to more House of the Dragon, and I really think they're going to deliver. Trust me... it's one hell of a story.

GOT was meant to be expansive and last several seasons, as it's based on a whole book series (albeit unfinished). HOTD is all about The Dance of Dragons, is only based on ONE book, and is only intended to be about 4 seasons. Not a fair comparison, especially since HOTD Season 1 isn’t over yet. 🤷♀️

Game of Thrones Season 1 covered way more Ground The North, The Riverlands, Essos, Kings Landing, The Vale etc it also covered all the Major Families from their Point of View .
House of the Dragon it is only Targaryen's, also nothing can beat Golden Age GOT, just the Scenes with Tyrion and Tywin are enough to blow your Mind.
Not to mention Ned Stark, Robb Stark and his Killer Quotes "It is Better than three Defeats' "I Won Every Battle but i am losing this War" etc
Also Other Quotes from GOT live on to this day one of my favorites is "Serving when Serving is Safe" - Ned Stark and even better "It is Hard to Put a Leash on a Dog after you put a Crown on it's Head" - Tyron
And even with all that said i knew House of the Dragon would be a Great Show, but nothing in my Opinion can touch Golden Age GOT namely Season 1-4

I agree. I get why they’ve done that but sometimes it’s so dulled down that it becomes noticeable and distracting. Like some of the scenes during the day of laena’s funeral.

As a die hard fan of GOT, despite enjoying very much what has been done in the first season of HOTD, I have to say that the original show is superior, for now. What I think HOTD lacks are light hearted scenes and characters who can bring a smile to our faces and make us laugh, like Tyrion, Bronn and even Jaime did at times. HOTD is always so serious and dramatic, it definitely keeps us on the edge of our seats. Other than this there isn’t anything wrong with HOTD that comes to mind, long may it reign!
That’s the only criticism I feel like is valid because it’s actually true they do lack light hearted scenes. Either than that I don’t necessarily feel GOT is *far* superior but it might edge it just a little bit
I wasn’t really much in the edge of my seat with HOTD. Mostly found myself waiting for something, anything to happen besides romance/dramatic intrigue.

I didn't even know about GOT until about 2.5 years after it came out. A co worker told me about it when I was talking about History's Vikings show. He said I might like it and to check it out.

I am descendent of a few European royals. The one lesson you get from Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon is rulers should not be chosen by birth but by personality and skill. Most rulers took the title by force and kept it by force. This does not always make a great person in charge. A good ruler has to have skills in leadership, humanity, and management of the country. Just because your parent was a ruler doesn't mean you have these three skills. Democracy isn't perfect, but it's a much better government system than Royalty.
As great as House of the Dragons is, it wouldn’t exist as a series without Game of Thrones
I have to agree with WatchMojo on this one. Considering we are only looking at the first season of the shows, Game of Thrones is, by far, the better of the two for just two reasons: Characters and Stories. I was hooked hard by the characters alone, and had love for so many of them. Their deaths and circumstances had meaning that struck a nerve in me. The characters in House of the Dragon have just missed the mark when it came to endearing me to them. I get that the time jumps were necessary but having new actors playing the older versions really hurt the attachment. Deaths in HotD were rather meaningless because I didn't care about that character in any meaningful way.
It will be nice to see how the series as a whole ends, because nothing could be as awful as how Game of Thrones ended; and I just don't see HotD making the same error.
Because this is just a prologue based on few chapters in the book. They are minor characters being killed. Only big death was Viserys but it was coming anyway from beginning.

we haven't had a finale for season one of HOTD yet, and the pacing definitely worked against them. it's unfair to put them up against GOT right now.
and I can't find myself objectively looking at characters from an S1 standpoint on GOT now, to be honest. it's hard for me to specifically remember, without going back and just watching the first season, who had shown any growth or not. and after that absymal ending, I have no desire to do that right now.
I'm hoping that HOTD will have the opposite of the GOT situation, where they will fall into and end on much better pacing than they began.

I don’t see myself rooting for characters in HOTD like I did for the characters in GOT. The characters in HOTD did not leave any impression on me. Some characters (CC, the twins, Leanor, Laena, Luke,etc.) were just meh 🫤 did not feel any connection with them.
Most of them were minor characters this season. Also in hotd, most are morally grey characters, which is more realistic than Got's characters.

I don't know why the people didn't start with this story or Aegon the conquer than the game of thrones series. The prequels were already done, and you would have people fully understand the Targaryens or learn why they were so power and how the other houses held power as well. Then when George R Martin was finished with the Got series they couldn't start it there. Hopefully after the Hotd they'll do Aegon the conquer story, seeing how strong and scary Balerion was in his prime.

GOT: the video process is a normal one, you see the colours of the world, you feel the weather, the mud, the blood, the sunlight. You are there. HOTD: The horrible video process bleached the colours, puts distance between us and what's going on. Can't feel sunlight. I feel I am visually far away from what's happening.
Because most of the scenes in hotd are in castles, nights or rocky area. They have like 1 forest episode.
I think Got because it was a bit of everything it had drama, supernatural elements, comedy, suspense.

Game Of Thrones has 78 episodes following several families with several stories going on and so far House Of The Dragon has filmed 20 episodes (10 episodes for this video) which concentrates on the Targaryen family so GOT is going to win the characters chapter. In fact you can’t compare one season of HOTD to 8 seasons of GOT as it’s unfair as GOT has had 8yrs to play out over getting fans more invested in the characters and story. It’s almost like having a round called “number of dragons” in which it would clearly benefit HOTD series

They HAD to only compare HotD to Season One of GoT because they knew GoT was a downward slope. HotD may only have one season out, but that one season already blows the last THREE seasons of GoT out of the damn water!!

Idk I feel like comparing an 8 season finished show vs a show that hasn't even finished it's first season is a bit unfair.
I just want to see Paddy wining an Emmy, he was mesmerizing as King Viserys.
Honestly, Viserys was the same as Robert Baratheon...minus the drinking and the women. They were both too weak and blind to see what was brewing under their noses for years. Robert never lived to see how blind he was, but Viserys CHOSE to be blind to it all until it was too late. At that point he was physically too weak for his final display of strength to tip the scales.
