- Can you believe that one FREE downloadable pattern can give you SO MANY LOOKS? Using the Boxwood Hoodie pattern from Mood Fabrics, I made half a dozen different looks to incorporate into my wardrobe. This pattern is pretty beginner friendly, which means these adaptations are also good for the new sewists out there. Making your own clothes is so rewarding, and it can be frustrating for newbies to have to wait for their skills to catch up with their to-do lists.
Give this a try and tell me what your favorite pattern changes are!

Love this exploration of a single pattern with pretty simple alterations
How cool, and very creative! I haven't sewn anything in a long time. I've sewn 2 and 2 halves of projects since I was 13. Lol! And, now I'm 57. Maybe I should try again. Oh, wait! I forgot about a Christmas stocking I made when I worked at a fabric store in high school. I should break out my sewing machine, and see if I can something. Thanks for the inspo.😊
100% get back into it! I didn't sew for a long time and picked it back up over COVID. So glad I did, except I just don't have enough time to do everything I want 😭
This is so creative and so wonderful for new sewers! No correction, its great for anyone! It gave me quite skme inspiration. Thank you so much!
So glad you liked it! Happy sewing!
Swwwwwwwooooooooonnnnnn! 😮 ohdeargawd...LOOPS on the vest...that lace + BAM..you show the jacket!!!! LoVE ..LoVE..LoVE your style...lengthen the beach jackets!!! ⛱️ Excellent Katie...excellente' im a sweatshirt girl myself...💝
I am too but what a fun way to fancy-up a plain hoodie!! So glad you liked it!
@@KatieMakesStuff I make jewelry....so I gotta do "quiet" so the jewelry is the "SPARKLE" !!!
Woman, you are so creative ❤. Great ideas. Love them all, but the lacey white one is my favorite ❤. Thank you
The lace is so different from everything I have, but it's so perfect for summer! Can't wait for warmer weather to wear it
Loved thìs video, so many ways with one pattern is a fantastic project for anyone to try. Thankyou very much x
I love simple pattern modifications
Me too! They seem to make sewing just a little less intimidating
The the close out. ‘I gather fabric’. 😂
For me I would say
I hoard…
I can’t let a bargain get away…..
I must save this fabric…..
oh I can see sew many projects for this fabric…..
But I do love fabric ❤
Keep going that pattern is amazing
You are speaking my language! Every scrap has a use, every remnant needs a home. I just don't have enough time to do everything I'm inspired to do 😭
This is a brilliant idea! I don’t think I have seen anyone show the versatility of one simple pattern before, I love all of them, the oatmeal/Star Wars hoodie has a 60’s silhouette with the 3/4 sleeves , I love it xx
Thank you so much! It's been so fun figuring out different ways to use this pattern, and it's very much my vibe.
Very creative! Thank you for sharing the pattern and your observations with us!
I like some of your ideas/solutions and I might try and copy some of them 😊
Do it!! I'd love to know what you come up with!
These are really excellent! I like the way you filmed & edited this one. A little something extra! My faves are the cream and black windowpane tank top and your quilt coat. And your swim cover up made from the towel! Great video.
I'm glad you liked the style. I wasn't sure how it would be received but I didn't want to take a lot of time on construction when it wasn't really the point. I can't wait to try even more variations and see what I can create!
This is so awesome! Thank you for posting this- I've been sewing for many years, but you just made it all so accessible! Love your pieces too!
That's exactly what I was hoping for. Thank you so much!
Really like this. Takes the mystery out of sewing your own clothes and pattern drafting (I.e., collar, hoodie, pockets, placket)
Thank you for that. My hope was to make sewing garments to be a little less intimidating!
oh my god yesssssssss I didn't know this existed, now I'm super keen. All of these turned out out great and they even had an alternate hoodie pouch on a redux page for the hoodie! awww yeah :D
Heck yeah!! I hope you try the pattern and make a few changes to create perfect things for you!
@@KatieMakesStuff thank you so much! :D
Such a great video! Inspired me to go back and use the patterns I've already bought and look at them again.
Me too!! I'm definitely reevaluating my favorite patterns to see what else I can do with them!
My favorite was the pins on the towel hoodie
I have the Boxwood printed out. I tried it about a year ago. Messed it up. I've been planning on trying again at some point. Love Mood patterns.
I think almost every piece had at least one pin hidden in it somewhere! 🤣🤣 I feel like that's just how most of my things are assembled at this point: hopes and dreams they stay together!
@@KatieMakesStuff Can't resist this story-Pins are always hidden. My sister and her college boyfriend (now husband) were talking marriage, not even engaged yet, so they went to his parents for Christmas. She made him a quilt. First thing he did was wrap it around himself, snuggle down, and get stabbed. She left the pins in. His father laughed so hard. His mother sewed and as he put it, he had spent the last 25+ years (at the time) checking for pins everywhere.
great video! i feel completely inspired to do something. thank you! 😊
Oh yay!!! I hope whatever you choose goes well!!
Nice video 👍
Thank you so much!
I’m just about to make this hoodie, so it was great to see all the hacks you’ve made. So the standard length hits at high hip? I’ll probably add length and a hemband. Thanks! Xx
Yes, it hits right above the widest point of my hips. I'm 5'8" have a long-ish torso so it may be longer for others. I hope it goes well!! Let me know what you think!
@@KatieMakesStuff perfect, thank you! I will probably add length and then take it off as necessary, just to be in the safe side. Xx
Not my fav. bit still cute. I just don"t like the gaping neckiline on on the cream and black stipe tanktop. The green bottons on the quilt vest, I would make white and the pockets that go over the boobs seems uncomfortable to get hands in. And I would lenghten all of them tojust below my hip. It's just personal preference, not critique on your style. 😊The last few are all stunning and I love the bias tape use. Also I'm old school and I don't wear hoods at all. Thank you for the motivation to do something difference😉😉😉
I think knowing what you don't particularly like is just as important as knowing what you do like. And hopefully if you try this pattern you find ways to make it work for you!! I completely agree with the neck of the tank top. I thought about pleating it but wanted to wear it a few times before making that decision.
