  • Cupcake and I have been working hard on our Outdoor Kitchen Build and I think we've reached a point where we can celebrate! It's looking amazing and we can't wait to show it to you!
    What started out as a 10'x10' deck has turned into a beautiful off grid outdoor kitchen, complete with a sink (we're still working on the water issue at the moment, but the cast iron porcelain sink is amazing), a small table with useful cast iron stools (from Tractor Supply, our favorite store), and plenty of cooking room for our 17" Blackstone Griddle!
    We used simple materials - corrugated tin, polycarbonate panels (to let the sun shine in and keep the rain out), 4x4 posts, 2x4s, deck boards and 1x6x8 treated wood - the end result is an quaint little kitchen that will be extremely useful as we explore off grid living and just enjoy being outside with an amazing view of our spring fed creek! Keep in mind this build was done completely off grid (with the help of our Jackery 1000 and Honda EU2200i generator). It's more of a Outdoor Kitchen Camp, but it's perfect for our needs!

    Would you cover the windows in the winter with some sort of shutters? that is the old school way of closing up a summer house.

    • @CupcakeandCornbread
      @CupcakeandCornbread  Před 5 měsíci

      We don't cover them now, but I could see using visqueen to minimize wind blowing through the screens. Might consider shutters, though!

    I wouldnt like it so far away from house. Thats why mine is on my east porch.

      We do most of our meal prep in the outdoor kitchen, but if it's really cold we just use our single burner in the cabin (or just do sandwiches!). We also wanted to keep raccoons, squirrels, mice, etc., away from the cabin as much as possible!

  • @alexanderlapp5048
    @alexanderlapp5048 Před 3 měsíci +1

    I enjoyed this video. This looks like a great summer kitchen.
    I have a few questions. Why did you elevate it so high? Is that area prone to flooding?
    Do you have plans to cover the screens with plexiglass for winter to keep some heat in and snow out. Do you have raccoons ? Hopefully you don't, because they could tear those screens up and get inside.

    • @CupcakeandCornbread
      @CupcakeandCornbread  Před 3 měsíci

      Our little piece of heaven is in a flood zone, so we built it up a little. Minor flooding when there is significant rain, but because we're right next to the creek you never know. The kitchen is about 2.5' off the ground, our cabin is about 8 feet up, but no issues so far (2+ years). We have raccoons and squirrels, but field mice have been the main issue - not bad through.

      @CupcakeandCornbread ,
      You have to build to work with the land you have. I am considering an outdoor kitchen this year. I appreciate you showing yours. I am going to place mine away from flood zones. I have some low spots but plenty of high ground. I think I want to be able to close mine up, as it can get quite cold around here.

    At our GS camp, we had screened "unit houses" and our ranger put that small grid hardware cloth on the outside over the screens to help keep the critters out. Really nice job you two :D 🖕

    • @CupcakeandCornbread
      @CupcakeandCornbread  Před 2 lety

      We haven't had any visitors yet, but we're debating putting some thicker screen/hardware cloth on the bottom of the door, just in case. Thanks for stopping by!
