I can only imagine the pure relief of that dog owner when the ball popped out
I’ve been choking and needed the heimlich. Not being able to breathe is one of the scariest experiences ever.
Alone, home, eating a piece of steak. Oh, god, thought i would be found, dead. Hands in the air, jumped up and down, and am alive to write this. Now, alone? Soup, mac&cheese, only.
This sort of thing should be strongly offered to pet owners at vets. Not everyone thinks about it until it’s too late and you’re panicking and not near a vet clinic. Life saving measures for pets and humans of all ages should be heavily pushed for everyone to know not just professionals since every second counts and the guilt of not knowing when it counts is a heavy burden.
My dog's favorite pastime is pulling the squeaker from his toys. It is the perfect size to be crunched down and then expand in his throat. I don't leave him alone w any choking hazard toys, but I still made sure that I learned doggie CPR and choking BLS in the first few months after I learned of his squeaker fetish. I could never forgive myself if I could not try to save him from a known possible danger. It would be akin to not giving heartworm med, knowing he lives in a heavily infested mosquito area.
My jack russel choked on a big treat and passed out, as he is small I held him in one arm with his face down and gave him big back trusts between his shoulders, like you would for a baby ... the treat popped out onto the ground
I lost a dog to choking. Really wish I knew this at the time.
Man I bet that must've been very hard, I hope your doing good now tho. 🙏🏿
He was such a good boi sitting there when the reporter was speaking. I know mum was off camera but he was just too adorable. Happy he's ok.
You can see that his owner is trying not to cry when she's talking, she obviously loves him so much. ❤️
As a dog owner, I'm so glad I've seen this video.
The doggo that was laying on the ground being a gorgeous model was so patient.
NEVER Let your dog play with a squash ball, lacrosse ball or racquetball. They’re too slippery as there’s a golf ball many dogs die with these In their stomachs or choking on them.
This is horrible you were torturing him if he went in this situation you should put him down the first you see him like this because if the unfortunate happened you would be like someone torturing an animal to death this is really inhumane and horrible
@@chimsloyalty3880 The account is a week old. Probably a troll account.
The dog she used to demonstrate looked so happy and didn't care what they were doing to him lol
@@Rayne1bow I thought the dog (@ 1:13) was fake _too,_ until I saw the dog lick it's lips at 1:18. 😂
That dog was totally chillin'...not a care in the world, lol.
This technique needs to be taught to every person before they adopt or buy a dog
@@munk3064 That’s not what this video is about?? The Heimlich maneuver is taught way more commonly than the extraction method for dogs. Wouldn’t hurt to know how to save a dog from choking, they’re family members too
This is horrible you were torturing him if he went in this situation you should put him down the first you see him like this because if the unfortunate happened you would be like someone torturing an animal to death this is really inhumane and horrible
This is how my daughters pittie died this past spring. Broke her heart. Her Dad and Stepmom were not able to remove the ball in time….Absolutely heartbreaking.
@@mikebooth5942 only thing that should be banned is your heartless self
My dog choked on something once and I freaked out and stuck my whole hand down his throat to grab a piece of whatever he was choking on. I scraped my knuckles on his teeth a lot but that was my first instinct. Now he just chews things and immediately spits it out 💀
Holy hell I didnt see all these replies. He's still never had an incident again
Oh myNot to be rude or anything but that last sentence kind of funny he just like choose on it and then it’s like spits it out what he’s like trying to eat his food or something
One time my dog in my profile pic ( he died of old age a few years ago) was eating super fast and all of a sudden he started to freak out and I saw a big lump in his throat so I ran up shoved my hand down his throat and pulled out a heaping handful of dog food and then after he caught his breath, he begged for the food I dislodged from his throat lol.
I miss ya Owen you big goof.
You after your dog almost choked to death:😭
The dog:you u gonna finish that?
my dog just died of chocking last Thursday i regret not going to the garden earlier it was to late, hug your dog for me while they last because they wont be there forever.
She should invent the size of a ball for a big dog so they don't choke. She would know the perfect measurements of the ball. God bless her.
I have a larger dog and finding balls that aren't too small is a real challenge
I hav two danes and we always get them the jolly balls because they hav handles on them. I dont think we ever bought a regular ball other than the jolly balls. Luckily jolly balls come in different sizes-they’re also for horses too. We typically get either the large or medium size since it’s best suited for our danes.
@@carlycrays2831 At least get one with a rope attached. Throw a bumper instead. But I know some dogs prefer a ball.
My dog choked on a raw hide once. He came to my room at 4 AM and wheezed, then collapsed. No heartbeat. I thought he was dying from his heart condition. I decided to 'check' that he wasn't choking on something. I shoved my hand down his throat and my fingers hit the end of a raw hide and dislodged it. He lived another 8 months, until his arthritis took him down.
I’m soo proud of her. I’m proud of people who saves these poor animals. God blessed everyone who saves these poor dogs. Love and support to these beautiful people ❤️❤️💓
All the credit and kudos to that vet, she is an angel and expert in her field .
When the owner mentioned how she thought he had died I started to tear up, this one hurt
Looks like I’ll be throwing away my dog’s tennis balls in the trash
Genius vet! Fast acting and informed, She got busy right away and has taught the world a way to help their own pets! Yay! Many THANKS!
I have had to dislodge a pear when a horse snuck into the pear tree area and was choking. It was close enough to his mouth that I got it, but he was drooling all over the place.
I've stuck my hand and arm into a horse mouth. It didn't bite tho. Felt warm and gooey
Can we recognize that white Pitt laying still for the demo! Thought it was fake for a second.
That dog in the demonstration is like... keep it going lady, this feels good!
@@milkyo1206 there is a dummy with a stitched throat but the black and white one is definitely alive
Next time a frisbee for now on
That dog is a great representative of the breed and what can be accomplished when the guardian commits to training. Good boy, Hansel!!
I think I have seen rubber balls with lots of openings in them so if they got stuck the dog could still breath.
I have one of those I think I'll throw all the balls out an get more Holy ones lol.
@@milkyo1206 After seeing this video and other post of people who had pets die, it is better to stick with something safer. Honestly It never occured to me there was a reason those balls were not solid but it looks like they may have had safety in mind.
They float too. I think its a Nerf brand, usually orange color. I've got them.
I can’t imagine how afraid you guys were when this happened I’m glad he’s ok. When my lab was attacked and left fighting for her life we literally depended on the vet staff to save her life and they did!!! kudos to this wonderful team!!!
Amen! Fabulous that they actually taped the real thing. Was just thinking about this the other day with my chi/grey cross. Now I gotta get my fam on board for our pitbull too! Look at that baby being so good the whole time. Just like our boy we lost to cancer. Sweetest dogs ever. Thank God for this lady and for our wonderful fur babies! Thank you for the very important vid!🙏💟🐾🐶🐱
They didn’t explain you can also dislodge an item by lifting the dogs back legs and letting gravity do it’s job- usually for smaller objects or food. Scary had to do it on my clients dog when he was choking on a treat.
But they might bite you when you do that so I wouldnt advice that.
@@thegiantratthatmakesalloft9415 I don’t think a choking dog would bite you. Also if it’s your dog, and you know them, that wouldn’t be a concern for most people.
@@laurenanderson7330 I know my dog, and she hates getting hold by her legs. If I do that manuever she will bite me.

The solution is simple, get a ball that's slightly too big for them to accidentally swallow

I lost my 2 month old pup to choking years ago. I wouldn't wish it on anyone, to see a being you love so helpless and in distress. This video is very helpful ❤️
Something that's never really crossed my mind owning two dogs, but something I learned in less than 2 minutes that will last a lifetime
This and heat stroke prevention/management should be mandatory knowledge to all dog/cat owners.
This technique saved our office dogs life today. Grace is a 15 yr old yellow lab and I gave her half of my cinnamon roll at lunch today. I'd seen this video a couple months ago and don't know how I remembered it in the moment. Grace choked on the cinnamon roll, passed out, I ran to her, realized her tongue was purple and she was unable to breathe. I flipped her on her back and shoved it out of her throat using this technique. She's currently sleeping off the trauma on her bed next to my desk. Thank god I'd had seen this and remembered it. Thank you
That vet is truly a hero. She should get an award!!! 🐈❤️🐈❤️🐈❤️
Even i was scared hearing and seeing this. What an amazing piece of information
Omg that's such a horrible feeling when a pet or loved one is chocking it's like ur mind just goes completely blank like...uhhh wtf do I do!? You start to panic
Precious angel. It was hard to watch! Thankfully you saved him ❤️❤️❤️
Good thing inside edition is spreading this very needed awareness! I've never heard of this and have had dogs my whole life
This is awesome information. I am so relieved these dogs and their owners made it on time to be saved ❤️❤️ can’t imagine what I would do if this happens to any of my babies 💕
Seeing that ball coming out felt so good
I'm really grateful for teaching us that technique. Every dog owner should know this.
A much needed video! Thank you
poor dog having to go through that
My heart was going so fast watching them trying to get the ball out. What a happy relief that they got it out.
Thanks for the ad… really helps with the time response.

FANTASTIC!
As a pet sitter, I was already certified in canine CPR and First Aid. However, I was not aware of this particular technique. I feel there should be FREE animal/human CPR/First Aid classes everywhere.
I attended a free dog first aid class once, it was awesome and there was a cute Labrador dog 🥰
That’s crazy because that’s my animal hospital for my dog, glad to know I can count on them
Finally a video that I truly appreciate and am happy to see uploaded

I appreciate that they immediately transitioned to a healthy, full of life Hansel. Thank you for covering this, at least I have an idea now.
Oh man my dobie has choked on different toys before. He always gets it dislodged himself but I’m glad to have seen this. He loves to steal all the balls at the dog park. he’ll put 3-4 in his mouth at a time. I’m always worried he’s gonna swallow one.
Wow! I used to work at that hospital many moons ago! That's pretty amazing to watch. So glad pup is doing great. ❤
Great work Doc!!
I've had to do the Heimlich on myself before. It can be intense and scary!! So glad she was able to get her baby to a vet and he is happy and healthy today.
My dog once choked on a dog sweet and my dad couldn't get it out so he just say screw it and shoved his hand down my dogs throat and pulled it out he's safe and sound now thank god 🙏🏻

So good to learn what to do. I had to give my rabbit the Heimlich manuever the other night because she ate her food too fast and choked. Just thankful I was there watching her eat. The look in her eyes and the way she just gave her limp body over to me was so scary. Gonna learn everything I can about how to save choking animals now.

Can I also do it to my cat while choking on a cat food Heimlich maneuver hmmm?
I don't think it'd be necessary for a small piece of food in the cats throat... this is a large ball that was visible from the outside of the dog
