- Choosing which glacier to see on your Alaskan Cruise is a critical part of choosing your Alaskan Cruise. Both Glacier Bay and Hubbard Glacier are popular choices for many Alaska Cruises and both offer spectacular scenery and a great time.
Glacier Bay is an all day event as the ship is in the bay from about 6 AM to 6 PM. You will see many glaciers in Glacier bay including Margerie Glacier, Pan Pacific Glacier and Johns Hopkins Glacier. There are also a LOT of otters and other wildlife. We also talk about Glacier Bay FOMO.
Glacier Bay only permits 6 cruise lines and 2 large cruise ships per day to enter Glacier Bay. Be sure to check if your cruise line will sail into Glacier Bay.
Hubbard Glacier is huge and is at the largest tidewater glacier in North America. Hubbard Glacier is very active and is actively growing (getting thicker) and advancing which makes it very unusual for a glacier. There are many seals to see while in Disenchantment Bay (who named it that unfortunate name?).
We also has a good view of the seawater to glacier water interface while leaving Disenchantment Bay.
