Emmylou Harris is another famous country singer. Gram Parsons was one of the pioneers of the Country Rock sound. He referred to his music as "Cosmic American Music", a hybrid of country, rhythm and blues, soul, folk, and rock. He teamed up with Emmylou early on in her career and did music together as a duet. Gram Parsons died in 1973 at age 26.

Gram Parsons and Emmy Lou Harris played together quite a bit and she recoded songs with him for an album.. ..Gram was supposed to be flown to New Orleans for his funeral services but he told people that if he ever died he wanted to be cremated in The Joshua Tree Park, so his friend and manager took him there and poured about 5 gallons of gasoline on the casket and lit it up.. It did not go as well as planned.....

The song is a simple celebration and commemoration of the love shared between Gram and Emmylou and what might have been had he not died at the peak of their relationship.
It was a tragedy that continues to hang on hi legacy and the love and the music that was lost.
See them perform at the Polar Prize ceremony honoring Emmylou. The emotion in the room is palpable and the two girls are almost overwhelmed by having to deliver their song to their idol… unforgettable.

I’ve been waiting for this since I saw you were going to react to the entire list.
The significance of Joshua Tree is that Graham Parsons died there. Folks do mini pilgrimages there to honor him.
The songs special to me for 2 reasons. First, this is my son who is BG’s age’s favorite song. He and his wife used this song for their first dance at their wedding. Second, when another son was in a band in LA, they used to play shows at an old west resort town there called Pioneer Town at a place called Pappy and Harriet’s. Afterwards they would hang out at a bonfire in the desert. He said the stars seemed to go forever. The hotel there is where Graham actually passed away. This was his favorite place to play.

If you do, be _sure_ and do the live performance!!! (It's the black and white video thumbnail) The video of the performance was not discovered until 4 years after her death from melanoma in 1996. She was basically unknown at the time she recorded it. It was aired on the Top of the Pops II show in the UK in 2000 and instantly became the most requested video ever on their show.

The song is about Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons, who should have been a June and Johnny, but some greater hidden evil power in the music industry needed Gram dead. The cross in the desert canyon is an homage to the strange theft of Gram's dead body and how it ended up in the desert. You need to react to Red Dirt Girl By First Aid Kit.
