Pavarotti is absolutely terrible when it comes to Caruso. He even has to change it midway through in order to adjust to his range.
Really shocked you put him forward.
Caruso should only be performed by Lara and Julio, both in isolation rather than as a duet.

Caruso, is an italian song, written, composed and performed in 1986 by Lucio Dalla as a tribute to Enrico Caruso, the most famous tenor of his time (late 19th / early 20th century). He was the first global singing superstar.
The story is about the last days of Enrico Caruso, he knows he is dying, and he is remembering all his career on stage and telling his much younger wife how much he loves her.
It has very quickly become a classic of italia music and the biggest names have covered it (Julio Iglesias, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, …. and of course Luciano Pavarotti).
But for many, Lara's version is the best ever, as she was able, with her unique ability to convey the emotions of a song, to reveal the real sad story written by Lucio Dalla.
I was told that Lucio Dalla himself, after hearing this performance, said that she made it her song and this is the best version he has heard from it.
For Lara, this song is really important as this is a kind of anthem for Italy, and she is so much connected to this country. She spent the first few years of her life there with her sicilian mother and grandma. Her husband is also sicilian.

Lara has been classically trained more than 10 years in Royal Conservatoire of Brussels. And she continues to receive vocal lessons on a daily basis.
She said she would have pursued a career of opera soprano if she was not first and foremost a songwriter. She went the pop path just because of this.

I worked in Brussels from 1990 to 1997.
Maybe I travelled in the same tram as Lara without knowing it.
However, I first heard this song when it was sung by Helene Fischer, and because of that, it remains my favourite version.
Helene (who does not even read music) spent two years at a performing arts college in Frankfurt.
She went on to become Germany's most successful female pop singer ... ... ... ever.
I don't believe she learnt anything at this college. This is a talent she was born with.
And, as a bonus, she happens to have the most beautiful face I have ever seen.
Unfortunately, in search of ever greater adulation from her fans, she seems to determined to kill herself.
But that is another story.

Enrico Caruso (*1873 in Naples, † 1921 ibid) was an Italian opera singer. He is considered the most famous lyrical tenor of the early 20th century and one of the most important singers in the world of opera.
Caruso was famous for his baritone-like timbre and stage presence. In a performance of La Bohème he sang an aria for the suddenly voiceless bass so convincingly that no one in the audience noticed.
Caruso established a new, exemplary style of singing in which the focus was not on beautiful performance but on becoming one with the character being portrayed.
Caruso is the name everyone knows and to which every opera singer is compared. Those who have seen him describe the onset of his voice with the warm power of an organ.
Caruso still holds the record of 863 appearances on the Metropolitan Opera stage.
And it was Caruso who initiated the triumph of the record with his work.
Caruso's generosity was legendary. For example, during his most successful years at the Metropolitan Opera, he gave almost all employees Christmas presents.
His sense of humor was also famous. Again and again he joked with his stage colleagues, for example sewing up a sleeve of a coat that a colleague in La Bohème had to wear during the performance, or filling water in a discarded hat that someone had to wear in the performance.
3 years before his death he married the American millionaire daughter Dorothy Park Benjamin. With her he had a daughter, Gloria, at the age of 45.

Great, one of my favorite performances of Lara, been loving the original by Lucio Dalla since an Italian friend introduced me to it in the late 80ies, and Lara did it more than justice... - great reaction, thank you! Lara singing this still gives me shivers and goosebumps every time I get back to it, absolute masterclass in storytelling combined with a masterclass in vocal techniques - can't get any better...
Btw. I'm still hoping you'll get into Isyana Sarasvati again at some point, her new piano version of "Unlock The Key" is another masterclass in music...

Great, heart warming even, to see new knowledgeable people experience The Queen's masterpiece interpretation and execution of this beautiful song about the dying days of the great Enrico Caruso. How sad he and his young wife (and child) must have been. Fun fact - in the song she of of Sorrento - in the words you will see it as the Gulf of Sorrento where Caruso and his stayed in a hotel. She however sings "Surriento" not Sorrento. Neapolitans pronounce it that way and Caruso was from Napoli, and would have said it that way. Lara. Misses. Nothing. I hope you do more reactions to Lara, our Queen, long may she reign.
