    This is brilliant. These with the knobs term and I’ve got exactly what I’ve been looking for!! Love your videos. I used a Leo Bodnar USB interface to build a sim racing dashboard. I also use the switches on it to bind controls for my flying sim - calling up maps, gear up down etc etc. Super easy plug and play to use and helps eliminate keyboard strokes which I hate.

    This is a great presentation indeed! I'm in the process of reviewing the various flightsim gadgets in the market and since I'm on a tight budget I am mostly keen to go for a software that will allow me to operate various aircraft formats using the same hardware. "Your" low-cost flatpanel touch monitors mated with the "Air Manager " software are the answer to this! ...Oh yes I'm so much like you because I really don't like sticking around with one aircraft type (read C172) but I like hopping between various types (my favourite being C152, PA28R, C206, Gippsland GA-8, PA34 Seneca 2, BE55, C310R, PA31, C402C, C404 Titan, Tecnam P2012, C208 Caravan, Pilatus PC12, DHC6 Twin-Otter, BE200 Super King Air, BE1900C, BAe Jetstream 41, DHC-8, Fokker 50, ATR 42/72, CRJ200, B737, B757/767, A310, MD11, B777, B787 'Dreamliner', B747, etc. I presume this sim would be able to cover most if not all of these aircraft types.

This might be my opportunity to obtain something even much better. I have searched your earlier videos. Air Manager seems to be the tool of choice indeed. I have not found any readily usable G1000 bezels at Sim Innovations. Do these exist, or should everyone develop these for him- or herself? Whatever it is, I think I am going to try!

    Russ, Question for you...
    I'm starting to add-on to my X-Plane 11 home cockpit. I have yoke, throttle, pedals, RealSimGear 530, light switches & magneto key panel, Flap panel and one (1) Saitek FIP so far.
    I'm seriously considering the Air Manager desktop and run on a ~13" touchscreen mounted to my cockpit panel (I know you'd prefer larger touchscreen, like your 15.6", but I'm running out of real estate).
    I mostly run a Cessna 172, and put a 6-pack on the touch screen and use my other gear, like the one FIP for other gauges.
    So my question, using Air Manager desktop, while in-flight can you change the display configuration to see other instruments temporarily, like switch from 6-pack, to VOR1 & 2 CDI's, or engine gauges, and then flip back to 6-pack, while flying. Or do switching require a re-start of X-plane??

    • @rbarlow
      @rbarlow Před 4 lety

      Doug at Caledonia Sound and Recording Studio that functionality is not offered in any existing panel but is certainly possible to create. I made a small test panel that had three touch buttons to jump between three panels. If you could lay out the three panels using existing free instruments I could help add the switching functionality.

    I bought the Prechen 15.6 Touch Screen on Amazon for $229.99. Also bought Air Manager and found I was not able to get the touchscreen feature to work. Mouse input worked but it was a no-go on the touchscreen. I then noticed that you had 3 connections on the Prechen in your video. I only had the HDMI and powered USB hooked up. There's an input for a DC 12 volt power adapter but this did not come with that adapter nor was it listed on what was included on Amazon. I then took note in the Operating Instructions of this caveat "If you want to use the touch function, you need to connect both the USB cable and the DC Power adapter". That was contrary to what was in the description which makes no mention of the necessity of connecting the DC 12v power adapter if you want the touchscreen to work properly. I'm in the process of ordering a DC 12v power adapter now. They are relatively inexpensive. Curious if Russ or others who ordered this particular monitor did not receive a DC 12v power adapter and is it required to get the touchscreen function to work as stated in the enclosed instructions.

    • @vpwebsvc

      Was finally able to get this touchscreen to work. My unfamiliarity with touchscreen monitors and the terrible English translations in the manual that came with the monitor and the video link the manufacturer sent to me, contributed to the problems I was having. My setup is a home built system with an i7-9700 clocked at 5.0GHz, DDR4 32Gb @ 3200MHz, GeForce GTX 1080 Ti with 11Gb memory, GeForce GT730, and a 39inch 4k Seiku monitor. Initially I tried to use the onboard graphics built into my rig to run the monitor without a lot of success. I next added the GT730 card to run the monitor. That was met with some initial success except the touch screen function on this monitor Instead of showing up on this monitor was showing up on my main 4k monitor. I eventually discovered that settings for touchscreen in Windows10 can be found under Ease of Access, Vision, Cursor & Pointer, Change Touch Feedback. I was able to shut down the effect of touching this monitor being broadcast to my larger non-touch monitor. Monitor is working great with just two connection, the USB to a powered USB hub and the HMDI to my GT730 graphics card. I've backordered a Knobster which should be coming soon.

      @@vpwebsvc wow, this is what i would like to do. sounds pretty rough there for a while but you're getting it figured out. toward the end you say you are only using the usb connection (powered hub) and the HDMI to your main gaming PC (in other words, you are not using a laptop to drive this monitor) via a GT730 graphics card.... where did you plug in the GT730 in your gaming PC? I have a RTX 2080Ti and it's taking up my only 16x PCI-E slot... so is it running in a 4x PCI-E slot? also, since you had the powered USB hub, has this eliminated the need for the 12V power brick?

    • @vpwebsvc
      @vpwebsvc Před 4 lety

      Turns out getting the touchscreen to work with the Prechen monitor was a Windows 10 touchscreen set up process that needed to be followed. I'm currently running a 4k 39" monitor on a GTX 1080 Ti card in a PCIe x 16 slot and the Prechen monitor on a GT 730 card in a PCIe x1 slot. The 39" monitor is my #1 monitor and the Prechen #2. These are connected to a very high-end desktop computer. The Windows 10 setup for touchscreen setup will show both monitors and you indicate which ones are touchscreen. In my case #1 is not and #2 is touchscreen. Once that was done everything was OK. There's no need to add a DC 12volt power adapter to the Prechen unless you don't have enough power coming from the USB port the monitor is connected to. I have a large powered hub so that wasn't necessary in my case. My current plan is to get another Prechen 15.6 monitor, add a 2nd less powerful computer, and have the folks at Stay Level build me an avionics panel. That panel will accommodate the 2 Prechen monitors, a Knobster, a Yoko yoke, a Virtual Fly throttle, a Saitek switch panel and Saitek multi-panel. The 2nd computer will run these and the high end computer the 4k monitor for the main outside visuals.

      You probably haven't calibrated the monitors touch. The usb touch signals and the monitors are not automatically associated. Try going to settings and search "calibrate". By default Windows assumes the touch is on the Main monitor as defined in your Display settings. You should see something like "calibrate pen and touch" . Select it and follow the prompts on screen. It will cycle through your monitors displaying a white screen on each with the instructions to touch it if a touch monitor or press return if not. This will help Windows know which touch signals belong to which monitor. Let me know if this is not the answer.

      Stephen Alberts is your Touchscreen responding in windows? When you plug in and unplug the monitors usb to the computer do you hear the windows connect/disconnect tone? If so Can you move folders and open apps with your finger? If not you need to set up your touch in windows. If not you need to help windows know which monitors are touch so it can associate the inputs with the correct monitor. You can search Google for more information but in settings if you search for calibrate I think it will offer you a choice to calibrate pen and touch monitors.During the process it will highlight each monitor and have you touch them if they are touch monitors or hit enter on your keyboard if they are not. Once you have that set up correctly it should be fine in air manager.

      Thanks Russ, Prechen screens now working, touch functionality working through AM, I ordered the knobster on Sunday, I expect this to arrive in 3-4 weeks from NL, due COVID-19 transport delays to Australia.....thanks for your support, greatly appreciated.

    Hi Russ. What's the most recent update on the knobster? If I wanted to build one myself, where would the script/code be available?
    The knobster would be a wonderful complement to this monitor.

    Do you need Air Manager to use the touchscreen with the G1000?

    • @rbarlow
      @rbarlow Před 3 lety +1

      Yes you need it to get useful touch (or Knobster ) input. It requires using a bezel made with Air Manager over and framing the screen popped out from the sim. You can pop out the G1000 window with bezel but the knobs are almost impossible to use on a touch screen.

      The screen would be plugged into a laptop with USB-C capability ... so basically, it would be an extended monitor connected to your laptop. The software would run on the laptop as there are no brains in the touch-screen monitor (as i understand it)...now granted , im just now trying to figure this all out so i could be out in left field and this could be a total tablet solution with a processor and everything

    Hi Russ, Can you tell me what 12V DC power adapter you use to power this monitor? I just purchased the monitor and I want to use touchscreen but can't unless a 12V power adapter is used in conjunction with the USB C and unfortunately no power adapter was included with the monitor.

    • @rbarlow
      @rbarlow Před 4 lety

      Scott Roberts my Monitors came with an adapter that is 5v 1000mA and that powers my Monitor thru the usb-c connection. I use the miniUSB port for the touch screen connection. Have you tried connecting it to a USB adapter with 1000 mA or greater capacity?

    • @scottroberts5625

      @@rbarlow Hi Russ, I have my monitor powered through the usb-c port by a 5v/2A adapter that came with the monitor and a hdmi cable goes to the desktop graphics card. In order to get touch capability I will have to run the usb-c cable to a usb port on the desktop which will in turn not give the monitor any significant amount of power.
      The monitor only has one usb-c slot, two hdmi slots, and a 12V power slot so it looks like I would have to use the 12V DC adapter that the directions say is required to have touch and enough power to run everything. (Unfortunately Prechen didn't include the 12V DC power adapter, that is why I thought you might know what adapter would work because the pin type connector would need to be a specific size to fit the slot.) Does your monitor have more than one usb-c slot?
      BTW, I am original USAir too.

      @@scottroberts5625 actually my current Prechen Monitors did have both a USB-C and a mini-USB port so I used one for power and the second for the touch. For Christmas I got another Prechen and it is exactly as you describe. I hadn't opened it until now. I guess I need a 12V adapter too. They are readily available in Amazon search

      I reached out to Prechen customer support (didn't think I would get a response) but they did answer and suggested this adapter too: www.amazon.com/BOLWEO-100-240V-Compatible-Connector-3-5mmx1-35mm/dp/B078X5DCFC/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?keywords=3.5*1.35+mm+dc+adapter&qid=1577692360&sr=8-1-fkmr1
      So I guess there are two options now. Forgive me for being a "noob" but I am new to Air Manager and X-Plane 11 but when I get the new panel set in Air Manager how do I get X-Plane to use it (I have the plug-in installed)? Do I go into settings and select the new display and keep it set at "Unused", or do I set it similar to the other displays (I have three more in use)? BTW, I am using a third party Van's RV8 airplane, don't know if that makes a difference.

      In this video I’m using explain 11. I am working on a bezel for Air Manager that will work with FS 2020. Unfortunately Microsoft has not provided the ability to create plug-ins as yet, but Sim Innovations has created a bridge application that will allow data to be passed to and from the bezel and it should be available in a week or so. Watch my channel and I will unveil it as soon as it is available. It will allow us of Knobster too.

      Hey Russ, any update on this? I'm loving MSFS and Air Manager (I have some videos posted on my channel of my setup... Inspired by you.. and I thank you for that).
      I understand Microsoft/Asobo are operating in a sandbox and not letting the sim community come in and play yet.
      In any case, wondering if there is any chance of work-arounds? Or if we have a timeline from Microsoft yet as to when third party/open source devs will have an SDK?
      I'm enjoying the Air Manager BETA demo panel, but it's killing me not having the ability to control my radios from my touchscreen panel and having to come inside the cockpit for extended periods of time while scrolling the mousewheel for what feels like an eternity. I even considered dropping the $150 on a Logitech radio panel because I'm afraid Microsoft won't allow for this capability any time soon. I held off and I'm hoping someone may have some updated timeline info from them.
      Thanks again for all the info you put out! I'm looking into reaching out to a 3D print house to fabricste your flap detent add-on, when I finally get my honeycomb bravo. Also saw someone that created a "chunky throttle" and provided the design files. Considering that as well. New to the sim world as of last August and I am all in 😆👍

    • @rbarlow
      @rbarlow Před 3 lety +2

      Fernando Javier you Need to calibrate the monitor. Windows doesn’t know how to correlate the touch function with the monitor screens so it assumes the touch sensor is over the main screen. Go to windows settings and search for “calibrate“. You should see a choice like “calibrate pen and touch monitors”. It will then cycle through each monitor and as you to touch them so it can figure out which touch grid is associated with which monitor. Hope that helps.
