    I have a 1981 MGB GT (yes you read that right, 1981, even though the factory closed in 1980!).
    After the factory in Abingdon CLOSED down in 1980, all the remaining MGB GT parts were shipped to British Leyland in South Africa as CKD (Completely Knocked Down), where only 200 was ever built from imported CKD kits.

    To avoid bleeding, as on the wheels, after masking for the black paint respray the base silver paint over the masking tape. Let the silver dry, then spray the black - no bleeding.

    40 years ago as a trendy 20 year old I had a Triumph Herald. Not just a standard Herald but a 1275Gt. It must have produced all of 69 horse power but i thought i was the bees knees. It also had a cloth sun roof. I felt even cooler when I perfected the technique of driving along and reaching up one handed to flip and slid this roof open.........until the day I was driving along the M5 and I reached up to slide it open only to watch in the rear view mirror the whole roof, frame and all, bouncing along the road behind me. I never did get it straightened out after that. (however I often wish I still had my Herald)

    Can't believe that you would consider repainting an entire car body with rattle cans.

    • @unclekevin5094
      @unclekevin5094 Před 7 měsíci +6

      For the money they spent on cans they could have bought a proper spray gun. They must have a compressor. Then they would be able to do a decent job on numerous cars.

      "Light surface rust" "seems reasonably solid underneath"? Not from where I was standing.

    • @MrPropanePete
      @MrPropanePete Před 6 měsíci

      Yep, did it a couple of times many decades ago. Started off as a little touch-up but spread. Spray guns and compressors were extremely expensive in those days (60’s and 70’s) so rattle cans were a cheap option for a one off or two off situation. Nowadays all that gear is quite cheap.

    I had a 1974 Harvest Gold MGB GT, it was like a family member, finally sold it to someone who was going to restore it, but they painted the car red and added wire wheels and a air dam!

    It really isn't difficult to feel under the sills and get an idea how rusty they are....but they actually take the time to go and view the car without checking underneath. You can take photos with your phone that will tell you enough.....btw a professional welder is £50 an hour because they can seam weld tidily. Why waste money on LED bulbs, nobody drives an MGB fast at night....

    • @bradleygray2103
      @bradleygray2103 Před 8 měsíci +2

      They drive all that way in a Tonka truck and can't put a trolley jack in the car.
      Who gives a fig about a $10 AliExpress LED kit? Certainly not a selling point when the MG specialist keeps saying "keep it original"

    We had two in our family which was a 67 and 71 with chrome bumpers and wire wheels . Im not a lover of those bumpers or wheels. Im quite sure this project took more than 5 days to complete ! .. Both of you make Mike and Ed look amateur. Thanks again.

    Hi Will & Gus, erm all that banging & cutting wouldn't it be good using some ear plugs not clumsy ear muffs? sorry to mention this as my former mechanic who also doubles up as panel beaters now can hardly hear and now have to wear hearing aids which do not doubles up as ear protectors. So that my take on this but a job well done !! thanks for the upload.

    • @bradleygray2103

      Muffs cut more noise than plugs but anything is better than nothing.

    I don't understand why you don't put cars on hoists before you buy them. UK cars are known to rust!! Anything more than 10 years old is sure to be a shed. With margins so tight, why don't you at least carry mirrors on lingerie handles so that you can see under each car??
