      @@Sorastro Some of us are still waiting for your ZombieArt hahaha, could you please paint some miniatures of the second edition Zombicide? Zombies or survivors, just wanna see your stuff (and please, in the 4:21 min, what colour did you use to paint the jeans of the fatty?? In my opinion the best ones by far)

    Wow, great videos! Very professionally done, sir! Your voice is clear throughout. You stick to your subject without diverging into "babble" like many other video-makers. You are obviously prepared with all necessary tools and supplies when you start. You explain each step without a lot of lapses. I just can't compliment your video and you enough! And I should say that I like your technique for painting although I don't know if all your Citadel products are available here in America, I will endeavor to follow your steps as closely as I can with some substitution of available materials.
    I "like" and I subscribe as I will be watching your other videos and refer to your site when I paint my minis.

      Thank you for all the positive feedback! I wouldn't worry too much about using the exact same colors; I tend to use Citadel out of habit and convenience as I have a store nearby that sells them (although I'm not a fan of Games Workshop these days), but I'm sure the other major paint ranges (Vallejo, Reaper etc.) would be just as good. I would definitely try and get hold of Army Painter's Quickshade though as it's such an effective time saver! Good luck with those zombies :)

    Never thought about using Waywatcher Green Glaze(FYI Citadel has discontinued this product because of their new line of Contrast paints) prior the base color! NICE idea!!! Nurgle's Rot is a excellent technical paint and really gives off a nasty effect. I also have found that Vallejo's Game Effects Dried Blood (72.133) and Vomit (72.134) can make a large impact on a model like this as well. Citadels Blood for the Blood God is also an excellent effect paint. Lastly it would be absent minded of me not to mention Vallejo's Environment effects paint as well, specially Slimy Grime Dark (73.822) and Slimy Grime Light (73.823). The environment paints are more geared to scale model makers but can offer up fantastic effects as well when used correctly. LOVE the videos!

    I liked the first one, but I loved this one. I can't really express how much I've liked your guides, I go totally fanboy over them, not only do you explain it really well, the presentation is also great. Not only do I think 'wow, the minis look great' when I watch it, I also think 'I'm totally able to pull this off - my minis are also going to look this great!'.
    I'd love to see more of these, I'm really curious to see how you do the survivors, and we got season 3 next year with new zombie types . . . :)
    If I can offer a suggestion, it would be nice to see the shopping list at the start at the video or in the description, for us fools that think we can remember it, go to the store to shop and then have to start downloading the video when we couldn't remember it after all.

Is there any way you could also put up a list of the Citadel pots you use in the video? Also, I saw a few new tips I didn't used before. Using the waywatcher green glaze for the toxic zombies for example is a neat little touch there.
    Btw, what song did you use at around 6:20? Love the sound. This is perfect for my Zombicide playlist while playing with friends.

  • @lexgotham
    @lexgotham Před 10 lety

    Very very very well done sir.
    Nice painting, nice tutorials, nice color schemes, nice editing, nice music and nice references (noticed a few subtle private jokes here and there and a few editing techniques that reminded me some classic movies).
    Let's face it: you nailed it big time (I mean it).
    My only regret is that there are so many beautiful colors used (particularly in the toxic video showcase when you browse your zombies collection at the beginning) and there are few chances that I can reproduce them because I don't know their commercial names (I know you say that you are using light base colors from citadelle and I know you named a few of them here and there but still, it remains vague if not for those that you were actually painting live).
    For instance, what are the various colors you used for all the suits in both videos (black, brown, grey, dark blueish), denim jeans (all shades of blue and grey), some beautiful mauve t-shirts out there and so on...?
    It'll be the ultimate videos ever if only you name all of the colors used for the clothes (inside the videos or even list them here in youtube).
    As it is, it's a very very nice showcase but I still feel that, in the end, you are "selling" a dream as what I see is probably not what I'll get anyway.
    So please please please, take that little extra time to give your tutorials the power of WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) that everyone is looking for by just naming your overall color palette for the clothes. Easy and quick for you, hugely effective for us. It'll be so worth it.
    Thank you.
    PS: did I say how much your videos are brilliant?

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  Před 10 lety

      Thank you for such a detailed and complimentary response to the videos!
      You raise an interesting and valid point when you ask about which precise paints I used for my base colors. I guess when I made the first video I didn't anticipate just how closely some viewers would wish to follow the guide, and that it was really the process that I wanted to focus on rather than dictating which specific paints ought to be used.
      You are not the only viewer to have asked me for specific names of paints however, and I will of course do my best to list those that I can, although I would also encourage experimentation; If you were to look at my entire collection you would see that I tried quite a wide range of tones out in the name of experimentation and variety - some to better effect than others! For the video I just picked a few safe colors that I felt worked pretty well, but never intended them to be taken as definitive shades that must be used in order to produce the best result. One thing I did when picking colors that you might also like to try was to search for "suits" say, or "dress" online and copy some of the more typical color combinations that came up (hence I've got lots of zombies with dark suits and white shirts!)
      Before I list some of the base colors I used, beware that the paints I used for episode 1 were from the older Citadel range that has since been replaced; I'll therefore give the names of the equivalent paints from the current range (which should give you a near-identical result).
      The base colors for the five zombies in episode 1 that you can see in the final shot from left to right (also used as the title image) we have:
      -Zombies 1 + 2: Macragge Blue for the suits, Ceramite White (or White Scar) white for the shirt.
      -Zombie 3: Caledor Sky for the jeans, Averland Sunset for the shirt, Moot Green for the hair.
      -Zombie 4: Baneblade Brown for the suite, Lothern Blue for the shirt.
      -Zombie 5: Deamonette Hide for the shorts with Moot Green for the trim, white shirt and trainers.
      -Zombie 6: Jokaero Orange for the jumpsuit.
      (Also, for all of the non-runners I used Stormvermin Fur for their shoes)
      I hope this is helpful. As for the other zombies that appear incidentally throughout the video, I don't think I could name all the color combinations used even if I wanted to as I'm unlikely to remember! I would hope however that once you've painted your first 5-10 zombies or so, you have the confidence to try out some colors of your own - therein lies half the fun after all!
      Happy painting!

    • @lexgotham
      @lexgotham Před 10 lety

      Sorastro It is so helpful, thank you very much. You made my day sir. In fact, you made the whole month! You are right when you say that we must experiment on our own. Still, I first want to try to reproduce your work as it is in order to have something to compare to. when I feel I got the technique right, I will eventually become creative my own way. It's not even an option as there are too many minis not to experiment eventually. Right now, I try to gather the tools you mentioned but here in central Europe, it's not that easy to achieve (for instance, the Testors varnish is not available on the old continent). Different tools + different colors are too many differences to be worth the trouble. But with the right colors (at least the basics, thank you for that) and the Quickshade trick, I'm confident again. Thank you very much and keep it coming as your videos are priceless. Regards.

    Your tutorials are absolutely fabulous, both very entertaining and inspiring! The quality of the image and sound's just perfect. You've motivated me to try painting my Last Night On Earth and Doom minis!
    Quick question, what do you think of doing the highlights before applying the shade? I thought I'd try that, because I'm afraid to mess up and highlight too much...
    And do you know if Army Painter's quickshade washes are the same as their quickshades? It seems to me that the washes are just diluted versions, but I'm not sure.

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  Před 7 lety

      Thank you Monsieur! I think it's not a bad idea to highlight after the shade as a general rule to keep things vibrant, but if you do go too far there's nothing wrong with toning things down with additional shade (or a glaze). Regarding the washes - no they are completely different from the Quickshades (you'll be able to see the difference between them in this video: czcams.com/video/LMOTmOchKyQ/video.html) :)

      Josh Leong Thank you Josh! I'd like to do some survivor videos; I just have so many other projects to get through at the moment. I wouldn't use the necrotic flesh or quickshade on them though; For a simple approach to painting the survivor's skin you could try Kislev Flesh followed by a Reikland Fleshade wash and then highlight with the Kislev Flesh again (as I did for my Imperial Officers in Episode 6 of the Star Wars series.) Good luck!

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  Před 9 lety

      Hi Josh. Sorry to hear you're having an issue with the primer. Whilst I've never had a problem with the Necrotic Flesh, I did have the exact issue you describe with a can of their white primer. I think we can assume that it's not user error but some inconsistency with the product. I still painted over the primer though and you can't really tell that the texture is slightly rough unless you look really really close. But I have since switched to using Citadel's white primer instead.

    Great video, have been waiting for one like this since zombicide came out as I want to start painting both seasons.
    Questions:
    1) I'm in Japan right now and wanted to stock up on paint (cheaper). How much paint am I going to need for both seasons (and the third coming) ? Particularly for things like the blood and such.
    2) Would you recommend using color/quick shade/matt spray/primer etc.
    equivalencies from Tamiya? or really sticking to citadel/army painter?
    Thank you!

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  Před 10 lety

      Thank you Jack!
      1) It's very hard to say, but I'd guess 1 pot of every colour you think you're ever going to need, then perhaps 2 pots of colours you imagine using the most - like, say a favourite shade of white, grey, blue, (and whatever you plan to use for your blood) etc.
      2) I use Citadel partly out of habit (I have a GW store nearby) and I like the pots they come in. I think Vallejo, Reaper and Army Painter paints would all be fine and worth trying to find your preference. I use Tamiya just for the blood but don't think they'd be suitable for your base colours. For the primer and Quickshade I would definitely use Army Painter as the Necrotic Flesh/Strong Tone combo gives such a perfect skin tone for the zombies.
      Happy shopping!

    Great paint job! I had one question that I have always wondered when watching paint tutorials, what is the ratio of paint to water do you use?

    • @Sorastro
      @Sorastro  Před 10 lety

      Thanks Daniel! That's a tricky question to answer as some paints are thicker than others so require more water. I just add "some" then use my judgement so see if it needs any more. The aim is to have the paint thin enough so that it doesn't obscure any details, but not unnecessarily thin so as to require a million layers to get a solid color. If I had to guess a (very) rough ratio I might suggest around one third water? In any event, it's better to be a little to thin than too thick. Good luck!
