I am a Ghanaian student studying architecture in the UK and I must say The B1M to me, means a lot more than just a youtube channel. Thank you for your great work.
Wow, that’s amazing feedback. Thanks so much for watching Sam, we’d be nothing without our amazing viewers.
Sam I am Ghanaian living in Australia, thinking about moving back and starting something like this to curb our housing shortage one day, how about you add me on Facebook and when the time is right we can work on something Jonathan Affari ps my profile pic is a getty image
@JONATHAN AFFARI
Same here. And think the stigma around the usage of prefabs & 3D printing in Ghana has to change. I am also thinking of starting a construction firm in Ghana next year.
@@sammannuel9287 Yes a lot need to change, I am currently focus on growing my transportation business in Ghana, Real estate is my next venture, if you are keen we link up and share ideas or get into business if the atmosphere is right. Also I searched you on fb and couldn't find you
@Sam Maunnuel could we talk in private about this, I am currently here in the UK as well, thanks
An almost 50 minute B1M video! Have all my Christmas’s come at once?!?!
But realy, this channel has the most exciting content and i'm not a big fan of qrchitecture
47 min video?? You spoil us. Keep up the great work!
I know jackshit about engineering and architecture but i find your videos fascinating.
Im 13 and i know everything about it i want to be an architectural engineer
Ryan brenay it's so wonderful to see you are 13yrs old equipped with knowledge of engineering geometry hopefully future generations will be able to experience some of the great structures you help bring to reality all the best young man 😁
@@ryanbrenay6518 2 years late, but love this comment. Wee guy knows "everything" You wanna help me out with my structural analysis module?
I am a simple man.
I see a B1M video, I click on it.

Definitive channel for construction..Can't be more true
"Modernize or die"
Didn't see that coming from an architecture.
If I’m not mistaken, this is another dream made true.
I think I heard Fred Mills mentioned once he had a passion for construction.
It shows in this video to me. I am happy for him.
Some people dream, others make it happen.
Good for you Mr.Mills. What another great video. Truly the definitive channel for construction.
I love receiving those notifications, because I then have a good reason to stop whatever I was doing to watch your videos. I love the fact that this one is 47min long, because I needed a good break. Thank you for educating me!
You're so welcome 😉
This channel deserves millions of subscribers♥️😭👏🏻
Such beauty and easy to understand explanations♥️
The b1m has always struck me as an upcoming standard for CZcams channels across the board. One of which few seem to hit, knowledge is power!
47 minutes of B1M? Might have to save this one for later! Can't wait! :D
ETA: So I couldn't wait. Amazing video report! Would definitely love to see more of these - excellent work guys!
Incredible quality, you should get this onto Netflix. It’s better quality than a lot of the crap on there
Thank you 😊 I am civil engineering student year 1, actually these videos helped me a lot to get know deeply civil engineering info.
👍
You’re welcome! Good luck with your course
Thanks to Fred and the team for visiting our Construction Platform Research Centre! Excellent video, as always!
I waited all day so I could l lie down and watch this. I swear this channel is one of the best ever!
Blown away by Pete Blunt of Innovare. Amazingly pragmatic & informed insight. Here’s a guy who knows his industry & how to grow it. Love the analogy to automobile manufacturing. Well-done B1M to find individuals who so spectacularly represent their industries & ask such direct, revealing questions that are so informative to your viewers. Truly an amazing watch. Thank-you.
The level of quality from this report is comparable to something on TV documentary series.
You're making a positive change in the world. Ty 😊
Thank you so much! And thanks for watching!! 👍👍
This is why architecture and construction are always on my world watchlist. B1M is just the perfect channel.
47 minutes?! Be still, my fluttering heart! Thank you, B1M, this truly improved my day! Great work, looking forward to all the content you still have in store for us
I flipped out when I saw a 45 minute B1M show! YAY! Just the other day I was at my doctor's office in Oakland CA: at my previous appointment 3 months ago, a large building frame was going up with some prefab elements and modules. Today there are to let and help wanted signs in the completed 6 story building that is possibly 1 acre in area.
I'm blown away by this channel. Its Channel 4 quality (a UK tv station to everyone else) and that's high praise. Super quality, massively intellectual, highly researched material and is super rare on CZcams. This is the exception. I would absolutely recommend this channel.
I'll admit it. I fn love The B1M
never cease to amaze me with the quality wow
This is so well made! And was fascinating to watch! Hats off to B1M! You’ll hit 1M on CZcams in no time!
It's over 2 million now ...lol
Such a great report and i can't wait for the next one on whatever Fred discovers out there concerning architecture and construction-nearly 50 minutes of eye opening technology for the built environment.
I would be very interested in a follow up detailing how blocks, modules and panels would be repaired if damaged or weathered in a localized sense. Something glued and pressed and molded would be difficult to pull apart or patch or piece. Seems like you have to replace an entire section from the slightest tare. What happens if someone knocks a hole in one of these etc. I might be mistaken, but it would be interesting to discuss. I, for one, think off site manufactured construction has always been a brilliant way to go! Nonsense about poor quality and aesthetics. Actually, you could probably do more with modular construction. You can still add finishing touches, designed facades and specially design the blocks, panels and modules themselves. In an on site construction; foundations, frames, wallboards, are already standardized. The designing and detailing comes with the finishing work. Same with off site works.
There is a nother construction sector that basically does the same thing:
Cruise ships yards.
I life close to Meyerwerft in Germany (one of the biggest shipyards)
They mass produce fully furnished cabins/hotel rooms offside and then assemble them in the dry-dock.
I have been deep in every aspect of the construction process over the years and the one thing that you are missing is an Apple-to-Apple comparison. What I would like to see is a direct competition between a solid full crew (every aspect from foundation to finish) and an offsite company. 2 identical structures built on 2 identical un-improved sites right next to each other. My question is, given the additional overhead costs & delivery and crane requirements of the offsite setup, what are the true comparable costs in time & money between the 2 on a single family structure ?
You might find your answer to why it hasn't taken off in the residential market in that math equation.
Makes sense if dealing with a single single family. But if doing 50 in a HOA development where they are mostly alike...
Evolution of construction and the B1M right here.
This is a fabulous video!
As long as the final product appeals to the end user, offsite manufacturing is the future. It really makes sense.
Bravo, B1M!!!
Glad to see Birmingham skyline shown, would really love to see an episode on the Birmingham scene as it soon to be the most investable city in the U.K. in the next five years and the skyline is everything. Great video highlight the West Midlands and the Midlands in general too 😊
Wow, what an amazing documentary! Thanks for putting this out for free! Really informative and thought-provoking, it seems logical that construction will move more and more in the direction of off-site prefabrication and this could really help to solve the housing shortage and affordability crisis in the UK, and globally.
Just saw Fred chatting with the CEO of Bluebeam at XCON, can't wait for his presentation this afternoon!
B1M is unparalleled, this is truly going to set the bar for infrastructure & developing content 🙌🏽
Wow, thank you so much!! 👍👍
Finding a 47 minute B1M video in my inbox...
#PLANNEDEVENINGSCRAPPED!!
Interesting. I’m watching this in my Alcan Home, which I purchased new in 1971. It was built in two halves in a city almost 600 km away, trucked to my location, and plunked down on a concrete foundation providing a full basement. I’ve been a satisfied homeowner. . . with almost zero external maintenance due to the use of Aluminum for most of the exterior.
I can now see how many brilliant structures can be built in a single year.
Another amazing upload from B1M.
Thank you! ✊️✊️
I referenced Farmer’s report in my final project which I recently completed. So it was very cool seeing him being interviewed by you. Very interesting and relevant topic. I love this channel! Thanks @TheBIM.
Finally Fred Mills is back on screen!.!.
Haha, we had you in mind when producing this! He’s in the One Park Drive video too.
The B1M Hopefully I can see him in NYC!.!.
The quality of B1M videos is too good than CZcams league.
When I saw 47 minutes I didn't think I'd watch it entirely... Well turns out I did, nice job for making such a quality documentary on a relatively unknown industry, I liked it a lot, it catched my attention from the beginning to the end! 😀
Thank you so much!! 👍👍👍
ikr same here
This is an excellent video on the major changes occurring in the construction industry. I'm seeing many of the same issues here in the USA, particularly worker shortages which never recovered from the recession, and how modular construction is one of the solutions. Thank you!
You’re more than welcome - thanks so much for watching and for the great feedback! 👍
10:10 - look at the horizontal wire that has been squished between the other side of the stud & the drywall.
*THIS* is why "shop" built structures will always be suspicious to me. When there are not any inspections things like this will be commonplace.
Amazing. Been watching this for the past 4 days. So inspiring.
B1M, sensational channel, that was the best most informative construction presentations I’ve seen, gives me hope for the future of construction!
Really great video, I like the longer more in depth look for this video. Keep it up!
Excellent, and it touches on many issues in construction right now, especially worker shortages amd urban sites with little staging area. And pragmatic solutions, well done!
I have actually stopped smoking, drinking, started exercising and eating healthily because I am so excited for the future, that I want to see as much of it as I can...
Is that weird?
Not at all. Get excited
Greetings from your cousin across the Atlantic! 😃
Bravo, and, thank you, for another informative and professional video!! I agree with all those who commented on the quality of your posts. You present the field of construction in such a way as to make it interesting and accessible to anyone/everyone. Thank you!!! 👍
I'd love to see a video on Walter Burley Griffin and his architectural legacy like Canberra 😊🇦🇺
Just finishing my off-site house. We ran it through an architect too, so it's as unique as we wanted it to be. Quality and speed is amazing. We started in August and the construction is 78% done, only the "slow" parts (electrician, floors, walls, kitchen) remain. The structure was ready in a record time of 2 months as they started working on it as we were working on permits and bank mortgage.
I found you from the DLR video, which in hindsight feels like one of the first peeks of these kinds of in-depth, high production videos. Keep it up B1M.
Love the commitment to long form content. Am a regular viewer, and will admit I am only part way through this special report now, since I have to budget time for watching it. Assume many others are the same, so don't be surprised if viewership numbers are lower than on other vids. This sort of content is high impact though, so I imagine it works out in your favor long-term. Keep up the great work, and thank you for your commitment to in-depth and high-quality analysis!
The editing of this video is that of a professional documentary! Great video B1M!
Stop the world. BM1 speaks.
'The definitive manufacturing channel'
Better than anything I pay to watch
Lovely video, folks! Could you do one on monolithic domes? A bit on the other end of the spectrum, really.
I've seen some pre-fab buildings go up really quick, great for the neighbours/surrounding area as the construction is completed much quicker, but in some very tight urban spaces, it's not always possible. The pre-fab components sounds like a better idea, as those blocks can be built on site if needed, at the very least, smaller in size so easier to transport. Certainly for office/apartment blocks, that's the approach that should be taken by default, else lots of noise for months on end, heavy traffic etc.
Thoroughly interesting video looking at the up and coming changes within the building industry and how they will effect everyone. Even if you are not employed within the industry you should notice a reduction in inconvenience to the public at large due to reduced site construction times.
Minor youtube star ?
Nope awesome frontman for great well done stories !
Haha - thanks!! 👍
Amazing comprehensive video, just what I was searching for.
I have nothing to do with construction industry and all that but still I watch all B1M videos idk why.
High-Quality Documentation. Way to go The B1M Team! Thank you for the information in an entertaining format!
It is worthy to watch again 👏👍😍
Wow a super lengthy B1M video?! Fan-tas-tic! Even if I'm not familiar with things in England, it's still a very real solution to a problem across the world . The key thing we'll see is how we can integrate this into construction while retaining the human element and street fabric aspects without just making everything look the same.
My favorite channel by far. I was just wondering what your background is. Because you seem so knowledgable about so much and the videos are so great in production. Thanks for all the videos and effort, especially great watching these now or for a second or third time doing self quarantine
Really great work, please carry on : we want more content like this !
Your quality is breathtaking.
Thas was absolutely top-shelf. Very insightful and a cause for optimism for the ability of technology to solve the housing crisis. Bravo!!
More quality content, much appreciated.
Outstanding video, as always. Fascinating, thoughtful and insightful.
Seems to me that the difference between the automotive industry and the other manufacturers versus the offsite construction industry is that the other manufacturers have about a 100-200 year head start. I like the idea of a 2.7m by 6m panelized solution for most homes, either apartment/condominium buildings or stand alone house.
BCP Modular in Three Hill, Alberta is building modular hotels. The process within the factory is still traditional but the end product makes for a quicker construction time on site.
I wish for such long format videos from B1M😢
This is a good channel, got me interested in construction.
I am surprised to see why the offsite isn't used more.
I'd argue the US has been leading high-productivity construction. Not of large scale buildings, but of those awful McMansions in the suburbs. AirHart construction can build a subdivision of hundreds of homes in 6 months, allowing certain elements to be modified. This isnt the manufactured construction that could be game changing, but still extremely efficient and profitable.
I think you're also missing the extremely large scale of currently manufactured components in construction. 8' 2x4s are ubiquitous, as are 4'x8' drywall panels, metal brackets, and pre hung doors. While these still require labor intensive synthesis on site, an efficient company can use them to build large homes very quickly.
You are talking about one step beyond this current state of manufacture, and I agree that panel based solutions will be the future of that and can allow a massive leap in quality and on-site productivity. That said, it is just moving the assembly from the work site to the factory as of now, and further automation will be needed to see the true benefits.
Sounds like a big government contract will make the difference.
Thoughtful 👌
o! A long form video from the definitive video channel for construction, the B1M :D I'ma like this one

The future of construction is awesome
In USSR pefabricated concrete panels were implemented already in the 60's...
SIMKINYX yup. Didn’t look good but it housed people quickly. Still I’m not in favor of this personally. Manufactured homes also loose value typically.
@@borisplotinskiy9428 Oh, I see...
@@borisplotinskiy9428 I'm sure there are some that buck the trend, they are not Bricks and Mortar and we live in a wet climate but seem to be lasting.
A short piece I saw on the TV in one of these offsite construction depots was an eye opener. A gang of workers banging in Insulation pins, and not one knew how to hold a hammer, and they had so much PPE on it must have affected their day. The TV presenter said the job looked like loads of fun. In reality holding the hammer like that is a classic sign of Chronic Tennis elbow after prolonged hammering day after day. It's likely the crew where all at the Doctors the day after. Automation can't come quick enough for Construction workers, the Spreadsheet knows nothing about arm ache. 3 1/2 minutes, 3 1/2 minutes, 3 1/2 minutes, 3 1/2 minutes, 3 1/2 minutes, hurriedly wipes brow, 3 1/2 minutes, 3 1/2 minutes. Therapeutic it certainly isn't.
The dumbing down of the workforce has been across all levels, now management may know nothing of the skills needed, to do the job in hand.
This is goodbye to more skills and hello to some new ones, started by Blair telling Construction bosses they could stop training the youth to save money.
And then importing a huge amount of unskilled labour to save even more money, which dragged the quality levels down to the floor.
We saw one house builder put £7 million aside for snagging.
One local housing project is still being rectified ten years later.
As one boss said, how many times can you ask them to do it again, as he was watching them attempt a render repair, this is their fourth go.
I reminded him that the previous staff he had swapped out for these cheaper workers wouldn't have had two chances. If he asked for a Plasterer that's probably what he'd have received.
The boss sits at his desk, a small radio Transmitter sits by the laptop, a knock at the door and two foreign chaps enter. Plasterers one says, oh yes says the boss, I see you've brought your tools, ideal, you can start at number 32.
I glanced in the bucket of tools, a childs pink handled hammer from B&Q and a Harling trowel, which is a curved hand tool for throwing small stones into render.
They spend some time watching the process over an adjoining hedge
Before Plastering could commence Insulation had to be fastened to the wall. Cutting it with a Harling trowel wasn't effective time or quality wise.
Meanwhile back at the desk the radio has gone off. Number 36 has had the Insulation finished. The boss enters the colour red in a box on his spreadsheet.
He gets his mobile out and phones his boss, number 36 is Insulated. Excellent news he says, well done.
Meanwhile number 32 looks like a bunch of five year olds has had a go. On asking how it going, one replies, it's sheit.
I wondered if the Client will think the same when he does his rounds.
Overtime they finally had enough and refused to pay the bill, and many companies went bust as this was a national business model.
Because of that, we now have to live in sheds.
@@spex357 WOW! ... Quite the impassioned response & detailed outline of what & how & why 🙏🏻
What, according to you, might be a better way fwd; that's effective & uplifting for all involved?
@@am1of1 Agenda 2030 is the way forward, the UN said so and most Governments have agreed.
A sustainable existence, no tools, no books, no musical instruments, no religion and no envy to be seen anywhere. Measured food and drink and gulag living with a bowl and spork and possibly a bicycle but don't quote me. We will be controlled by a central body that we don't see and have no way of affecting or changing.
On a more uplifting note for all, they mention a religion might be needed but it will be one of their making.
Corporate Socialism will have us praying to a boiled egg if it suits them.
Luckily the Green party MP says the world is going to end in eleven years so Agenda 2030 might end up in smoke along with the rest of us. I have asked her which week or month it takes place, as I'd like to book my holidays beforehand.
