    Had the exact same issue with my 2017 at just over 80k miles. I never did a flush, and I personally did one fluid and filter change on it at 60k. But I went to leave work one morning and the trans would not pull at all. Had to replace the transmission. I did disable the AFM after and installed a dynamic thermostat bypass in the transmission after. Since then my fluid temps have never been above 167 degrees at max in stop and go beach traffic. My truck drives better now than it did new. Just wanted to share my experience. Keep up the excellent work Kenny. Hope your Wife is doing well.

      These days with computers in cars has taken away a lot of natural ability to be a REAL mechanic if you give the newer mechanics a car with points and a car you and no computer very few would be able to diagnose it I was taught to use your senses sight, touch ,smell and hearing if the car does this it's that and so on

    People never change transmission fluid until AFTER they have a problem. Changing transmission fluid should be done BEFORE you have a problem. Oil is cheaper than metal.

    • @michaelszczys8316
      @michaelszczys8316 Před 20 dny +1

      What I don't get is how he says he never changes trans fluid if it has more than 100,000 miles.
      Really?? Why not??
      The way I see it transmission oil just recirculates at very high temperatures for 100 thousand or more miles and gets totally worn out. I have seen and felt trans oil that wasn't even slippery or oily from being worn out.
      If your trans oil has that many miles on it and you don't replenish it with real oil things will just start wearing super fast.
      My Ford has 250,000 miles on it and power steering started growling horribly. Fluid was probably original so I did a non- running open return line flush and replenish 90% of the oil. It made the pump totally silent again.
      The transmission was getting slow and needing to manual shift the first few times through the gears after being off and a couple of oil changes later it still needs help but works a lot better. It is on its last legs but I'm trying to make 300,000. I just trusted it for 1000 mile road trip- no problems.

All fluids have been changed on a regular schedule. Not a single engine or transmission problem. People if you want to and intend to keep your vehicle for a very long time it's quite simple. It covered a fuel pump replacement (minus small deductible). I believe it added about 3 grand to my loan. I'm on the fence about it, I guess the peace of mind was helpful especially with the AFM/transmission issues these trucks have. It's now at 137000 miles and seems good to go. Unfortunately the warranty is expired so knock on wood no issues.

    As a shop owner, I believe I can speak for all the mechanics out there.
    As a customer of a vehicle. When you take your vehicle into a shop. STOP clearing codes. Don’t go to an auto parts store and have them scan your vehicle. They will end up clearing all the codes.
    It could potentially save you money in the long run. Because, when you clear all the codes out. It makes our job that much harder. And if we have to spend the extra time re-creating the codes to fix your vehicle, it will end up costing you because of the extra labor.
    clearing the codes, it does not fix the problem. If anything, it causes problems. Just trying to inform all of our customers out there. Just my thoughts, Ron

    • @WrenchingWithKenny
      @WrenchingWithKenny  Před 21 dnem +1

      @ronhannink1968 I absolutely agree. You nailed it. We have to try & figure out what is going on instead of having codes to work with. My 2015 Sierra never threw a tranny code. $4000.00 to rebuild at 133k miles. It would take off fine in the morning and then begin to fail. Yep, it felt like multiple misfires. The 6l80 is weak, and cylinder deactivation helps it fail faster. They usually fail between 80k and 150k miles. Make sure you get an upgraded torque converter for your trans rebuild. Changing fluid out doesn't seem to matter. Designed to fail.

Back and forth several times to the dealer until the warranty was up. He traded it in for a more powerful diesel model. That had steering issues pulling to the right so badly that he could have driven off the road. Once again back and forth with the dealer and the problem was never completely fixed. They even got into a minor accident while servicing it, with 5K miles. Now he's thinking of another trade in. I don't know what to tell him.

He had got a bigger style launch I used a LOT....He bought gov. auction cars now and then, I had to drive the hell outta some of em. Have the scanner hooked up to watch the systems 7-9 fields of Cat Conv etc. Soon as the final set, usually the Cat, I'd head right to the smog shop near ours....
    Launch scanners I found are cheaper and sometimes a LOT better than the overpriced Snap On's hahaha My Ariz. job, boss bought a nice launch to use on the 6.0 Fords, since we did a LOT of those for contracters etc....Can't remember how may oil pumps, and egr systems I fixed, for the dreaded die out or no starts.....I did so many, I had the turbo off and on my bench in 10 minutes !! I never knew so much about the 6 liters than I learned there, and a LOT , right here on CZcams videos hahaha

    I was impressed with the scanner, but I work almost exclusively on Mopars. Is this Kingbolen scanner just as useful on mopars as it is on GM's and Ford's?

      @WrenchingWithKenny does it require a subscription fee? Any extra licensing fees to be required for Stellantis vehicles?

    • @WrenchingWithKenny
      @WrenchingWithKenny  Před 21 dnem +1

      @budlanctot3060 It's a $50 annual subscription for AutoAuth for 2018 & newer Chrysler or Stelantis products regardless of the scanner manufacturer.
