Very subtle hues of Lalat and Bhatiyar in this mesmeric raga.

So true! My question then: is that a part of the raga roop or is it Laxmibai ji's own interpretation. For instance, those hues aren't quite there if one were to listen to Mansur ji's interpretation of Bhankar, right?

A beautiful raag and beautiful rendition. Full of Bhava. This is Jaipur style, like Pt. Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur.

Interesting you say that! Of course, the bandish is the same... the gharana is the same... but I do find them to be poles apart! In fact, even the raga swarup presented by Laxmibai ji is quite different from that of Mansur ji, isn't it? The relaxed pace of Laxmibai is able to show many more spaces within a raga like this, but in ragas like Nat Kamod, her style of singing almost falls apart, not being able to do justice either to the raga or the bandish's own internal movements.

@@IrfanZuberi1980 Every singer has his/her limitations, though I have no right to comment upon their style. Mansur's style is quite unique. He stands tall among all Jaipur Singers like Kishori. However one anecdote about Laxmibai is that when Dhondutai Kulkarni was learning from her, at some point Laxmibai told her that she has reached her limit, and for gaining more knowledge Dhondutai should go to a singer of the caliber of Kesarbai. Dhoundutai was Kesarbai's only disciple, learning from her for six years.

@@hemantghayal7709 Interesting! For me, what this anecdote indicates is not the lack of content with Laxmibai ji but the fact that she didn't have even a fraction of mehfil gayaki experience that Kesarbai ji had, apart from rigorous riyaz and gayaki which made her stand tall among the Ustads of the day, quite literally! I had the good fortune of meeting Dhondutai a few times - in fact, I wrote a profile of hers for Marg magazine as well.
Coming back to Laxmibai ji, an anecdote in the context of Mansur ji - Mansur ji had invited Laxmibai ji to Dharwad to perform for the punyatithi of Ustad Alladiya Khan sahib... Mansur ji's wife also attended the recital, and is supposed to have said to Mansur ji afterwards (paraphrasing from Kannada), "Dekho, woh kitna chayn se gati hain... tum itni jaldi kyun machate ho?" Hahahahahha...

@IrfanZuberi1980 ahh so I'm not the only one who realized that in the nat kamod,
I, a huge mansur fan, personally believe the slow and steady treatment of bhankar by laxmibai jadhav is a bit more apt and grand
Mansur's one recording on dattaji is so "crowded" with notes that it is a bit difficult to not feel overwhelmed
